Who: Karl Whedon (Industrial Warfare), Alyssa Higurashi and family.
What: ...are you doing New Year's, New Year's Eve
When: BACKDATED to New Year's Eve
Where: Times Square, NYC
Times Square, New Year's Eve 2009 was a massive affair despite the inclement weather and the fact that it had frakking snowed that afternoon. And yet nothing from the million or so people to gather there to the fact that it was freezing and uncomfortable and pointless -- and who did this with their family, anyway -- could change Mrs. Higurashi's mind.
Alyssa was halfway convinced it was because her mother knew she'd been hurt and was sore and was attempting to catch her out. She had most certainly not been forgiven for missing Thanksgiving, despite the fact that she'd taken the whole week between Christmas and New Year's off to spend time with the family.
They'd been standing there since the afternoon, and all of Alyssa's instincts hated being stuck in a crowd. She longed for a good wall to put her back against. As long as she stayed in the middle of her family, it wasn't so bad -- she could avoid their movements with relative ease. But she hated to feel like she was insulated from what was going on around them, and instinctively circled towards the edge... only to be jostled by the surrounding crowd.
She was sore, cold, tired, and achy. Her coffee had run out. She'd been with her family non-stop for over a week. The new year had better hurry the frak up and arrive before the neon lights of Times Square started giving her a headache on top of everything else.
Smiling and nodding at one of her sisters-in-law, she returned some inane comment in flawless Korean and tried to command herself to have a good time.
