And Alyssa had spent the last few weeks very busily compartmentalizing and marginalizing each and every emotion or lingering strand of attraction. If she wanted to be his partner, she couldn't let something like that moment when she'd almost touched him happen again.
But he could be talking about anything. It wouldn't do to assume that he was thinking or feeling the same way that she was. As far as he should be concerned, everything had been buried and forgotten. She'd done her best to hide her attraction and confusion -- and until she decided whether or not she wanted to continue working with him, she wasn't going to let a hint of her doubt leak either.
So her expression was mild, curious, as she leaned against the wall with her hands in her pockets.
