Who: Kate & Abbybaby
Where: Compound to start?
When: Friday afternoon
What: Cheer up emokid.
Warnings: None?

Despite all of the confusion and the family problems, Kate really was having a good time at this new place. Yes, it sucked when people went home, and there were family members she would like to see with them, but she knew she'd see them when she went home, and none of them were worried that she was gone back there. She was here now, so she didn't see the point in not making an adventure of it.

She'd spent the first few days out and about with her super powers when she wasn't inside the Compound with her family, but her time in the 'base' area was limited. She knew how to get to her fathers' rooms, and her room, and one of the cafeterias. That was obviously not going to do, not if this was a place that stayed constant. So she decided to spend her Friday wandering the halls, getting herself thoroughly lost, and then finding her way out without the map. That was the fastest way to learn, she'd found.

Coming around a corner, she almost missed the familiar brunette head. Everyone here was so much younger than she remembered them. It was eerie to see the years stripped away. Not that they were particularly old, but they had aged. She remembered that Abby's husband had been here and disappeared around the same time Kate had arrived. That couldn't be a good feeling. Abandoning her plans, she jogged a bit to catch up to the other woman. "Abby!"

Logically, Abby knew that there was no use to be upset for this long over the steady disappearance of her loved ones from her world. She knew both first-hand and from her other relations from later years that everyone was happy, that her parents loved her, and that she had married Daniel, so there was no use mourning the loss of them. They weren't dead; they were simply just out of the experiment and back home where they belonged. She had a family here who loved her as she did them, but sometimes she caught herself wishing for a whiff of her mother's perfume or her brother pulling her leg. And now, with Daniel gone, she wanted nothing more than his strong arms to wrap around her and shield out the hurt that irrationally clouded everything she did.

She took a few fortifying breaths of air as she stepped outside her unit, willing the cool air to fill her lungs and chase away her thoughts. She had religiously stuck to Miss Pie's boxing routine, and she had felt her body change over the months as she too morphed into a new version of herself. Her arms were stronger, and her soft curves had started to tighten, causing her clothes to hang differently on her body. Her runs around the lake during school and helped her block out everything, and while she appreciated Pie's boxing, sometimes she needed to run away from her problems for a bit.

She took a few steps towards the exit and had just reached up to tighten her ponytail when she heard someone call her name. Her blue eyes focused on the blond woman jogging up to her, and it took her a second to place the woman. She had seen Kate arrive, but she hadn't stepped forward yet and introduced her to her. Her family was one of the scientists' favorites to take away. "Yes? It's Kate, right?" Abby asked, stopping so she could catch up to her.

Kate beamed happily at Abby as she caught up. She guessed that Abby was probably the same as now as when Kate had first met her, or at least in the range of that age. It was different to meet a seven year old than a nineteen year old, though, but if she'd managed to be the new one once, she could do it again. "Yea, that's me, Kathryn, but you can call me Kate." She held out her hand for a shake.

"I'm sorry, am I interrupting something? I didn't mean to shake up any plans you might have. It's just so great to see more familiar faces. Though I know I'm not familiar to you, not yet. You were about this age, though, so I might be pretty soon a part of your life. I'll be much smaller then, though, obviously."

"No, you're fine," Abby allowed, pushing pushed down her own insecurities for a moment and waved, doing her best to put on a friendly face. "I was just going for a run, but that can wait."

Abby's lips twitched slightly at the other girl's wide smile, but refused to turn up any further than polite interest would allow. Yes, what the blond said was true. She knew that Kate was considered to be family back home, but she hadn't met her yet in her timeline. "I was going to go on a run, but that can wait until later," she explained, hands twitching slightly in place. "When did we meet back home?"

"Oh! I could run with you, if you don't mind a partner? I haven't been getting as much exercise as I usually do back home... But, feel free to tell me to bugger off. I know some people prefer running alone. There were a few girls on the Quidditch team like that, absolutely hated company. I always like having someone there to push me but I don't mind running alone either. It helps me clear my head. I'm sure it's the same for you." Taking a breath, she realized she was talking way too much, but she didn't really know how to stop.

"It was at the end of 2005. I was seven. I'm nineteen now, if you didn't know. Sirius brought my dad and I around to meet all of you, but it was really another four years before we were 'officially' family. And then I suddenly had this giant extended family, so it was a big deal for me. Probably not as much for you guys, to just gain the two of us. But it had been me, my dad, and my grandfather for so long and then - bam."

"No, I don't mind," Abby said, blanching slightly at the idea of telling someone to bugger off. "I normally run alone, but some company would be nice." That was highly impolite, and that was one thing that she strove not to be. She started walking as Kate prattled on, leading the way towards the doors to the city. She didn't mind Kate doing all the talking; she let her mind go blank as Kate's words bounced off her and did enough talking for the both of them.

"I'm from 2004," Abby said once she was able to get a word in. She held open a door and let Kate go through, hanging back slightly as she eyed the sun. She had put on sun screen, and hopefully it had been enough to protect her pale skin from the UV rays. "How are you finding England? Well, were. It's not too bad is it?"

Kate followed along after Abby, stretching her upper body as they walked so she wouldn't hurt herself. "I wasn't too far off in my thinking, then. Of course back then I thought all of you were so glamorous and grown up and far cooler than I could ever hope to be. But that's first meetings for you."

"It's colder and less sunny than what I was used to. But it's gorgeous in its own way. And I adored Hogwarts." Grabbing a foot to stretch her leg muscles, she glanced over at Abby hanging back out of the sun. "Are you alright?" Cocking her head in concern, she switched feet.

"You thought that about us?" Abby paused, propping her foot against the wall as she stretched her leg. While grown-up was a word typically used to describe her, people didn't normally call her cool or glamours. Stuffy and frumpy were normally used to described her, old fashioned if the speaker was feeling generous.

"Hogwarts was beautiful, yes," Abby agreed, nodding. She missed the cold weather and rain sometimes; little snippets of home that she didn't know she was attached to. She caught Kate's glance and nodded, gesturing unnecessarily to her pale skin. "One of the curses of living in England. My skin doesn't know how to handle the sun," she said, forcing a laugh.

"Each in different ways, but totally. You were all living your lives the way you wanted to, answering only to yourselves and what made you happiest. I mean, you, with your amazingly smart Ministry career, and your cute boyfriend, and how you keep your head cool when everyone else is losing theirs... Of course I thought that. I still do."

Kate couldn't stop a giddy beam at the idea of running again, but she mostly hid it in her knee as she did a few deep lunges to limber up. She was going to get exercise and work on getting part of her family back. "You'll just age more gracefully than the rest of us. I'm sure I'll look disgusting thanks to running around outside most of my younger years." Done with her lunges, she righted herself and began pulling her hair up with her hands, twisting a tie around it a few times to keep it up.

Abigail flushed, her cheeks turning the color of her namesake. She never was one to take compliments easily; she always brushed them off, doing her best to divert the speaker's attention off of her. Harry and Siri both had lapped up the attention enough for the three of them. "Someone has to be the practical one in the family," she carefully hedged, reaching up to press her hands against her flaming cheeks as if pressing some sense back into them. "I've never been afraid if hard work, and Daniel-" she broke off, twisting away under the guise if stretching her back to hide the look that flashes across her face. She took a deep breath; he was gone, and there was no sense in denying it any longer. "Is a brilliant Beater," she finished rather lamely.

Abby nodded towards the road, inviting Kate to start. "Enough about me," she said, trying to switch the topics as they started out, "tell me more about you. What power did you get here?"

"And modest," Kate teased with a warm smile, that became more sympathetic. "I heard I just missed Daniel here. I'm really sorry about that. But people come back, it seems? Astro did at least. And so did my dad."

Taking off into an easy jog to get them started on a good warm up period, she smiled over at Abby. "I don't know what it's called, but if I see someone do something, I can mimic it instantly without really thinking about it. It's sort of brilliant, I just want to find amazing athletes and learn how to do everything they do. I assume it won't last when we flip, though?"
