Who: Theo & Victorien (swap)
What: booze & snuggles
When: Sunday, after Renee's arrival
Where: Theo's house
Warnings: TBD

For the most part, Victorien liked this place. The thing he liked most about it -- the thing that had almost immediately stopped him from even questioning whether it was good or bad -- was the fact that Theo had parents here. It was fun for him, too; he had plenty of family here, even if they weren't from his universe, and there was no end of things to do. But he still probably would have harbored some objections to the compound, if not for the fact that having parents was something that never would have happened for Theo back home.

So he'd ended up arguing with his scientist over the morality of a Christmas gift, of all things, instead of his actual existence here. He'd been aware of how slightly weird that was even as he was doing it, but he'd ignored it. It had not yet occurred to him that there could be an even more serious downside to this place: the fact that Theo's parents had to find out that they died, and that their daughter didn't know them. That hadn't been getting in the way of anything with her dad, so he hadn't even noticed; it was only coming up now that her mum was here.

And of course, now that they were faced with the problem, Victorien felt rather stupid for not anticipating it. He knew how to calm Theo down, though. Writing didn't work very well, but a big jug of booze (which he'd been really wanting to try, anyway -- how many people could say they'd actually had ancient Greek wine?) and some company ought to do the trick.

"Theo?" he called out, opening the door to her house. He shut it behind him, then added unnecessarily, "It's me."

"I can crush your skull with one fist," V reminded her, but he was grinning. And he helped her drink, before lifting the jug to his own mouth and having some himself. "You know, I really approve of the ancient Greeks. Couches and wine and sports and togas... they know how to live."

He settled further into the couch, and mentally debated bringing up the issue at hand. Talking about it might make her feel better or upset her more; she normally did alright with talking to him about serious things that weren't them, but he was still a little wary. Maybe it was best to see whether she'd bring it up herself. Lifting the jug, he offered her another drink.

“Details,” she responded, shrugging. “You wouldn’t anyway. You’re too pretty for jail. They’d make you into their bitch, and then where would you be without a sneaky best mate to break you out? It’s just not wise,” she added. At his words, she nodded in agreement. “Definitely. I’m super fond of the togas and the wine. Not so much the sports because athleticism and me don’t really go hand-in-hand. The communal baths are brill too. They go along with naked day from before.”

As he settled back, she was adjusted to fit to the slightly altered position. She took the drink as it was offered, then sighed. “I feel so weird about all of this,” she said. “I feel like my brain is just flailing over and over.”

"I am no one's bitch," V objected. "Anvil fists, remember? I'd survive jail. And a zombie apocalypse, too. Still, it is nice to have a break-out plan."

It was true he wasn't much of a fighter, which was why he hadn't signed up for wrestling or boxing; he could hold his own, but height was a large part of his advantage. If he'd gone through auror training, he'd be quite a bit more badass. Still, he liked to think he'd still get along alright if it came down to fighting. He was just largely inexperienced with that sort of thing, since the world was relatively peaceful back home.

He lifted a hand and curled a couple of fingers into her hair, knuckles resting against the side of her neck. "Yeah," he said. "I didn't even think about this part of it, did you?"

“I’m not sure if Anvil Fists will be able to properly defend you against a gang of horny prisoners and Veela draw,” Theo responded, lifting an eyebrow. “Though, I admittedly call dibs on you for my zombie apocalypse team.”

Theo, meanwhile, had taken one look at the list of events and laughed, deciding it was safer all around not to sign up for anything at all. She was far too clumsy and unsteady on her feet for most of the events, and too small for the leftover ones. She made a better cheerleader anyway. Or, in most cases, a better heckler.

His hand in her hair was comforting, the brown prompted by her mood flickering a little with very small streaks of the normal blue. She sighed, shaking her head. “I didn’t, no. I got spoiled by coming here to Dad, who already knew,” she said. “And most of the other Remuses knew too, so that wasn’t a shock for them. But like… Aunt Jane told her I was here and an adult, and she was lamenting over missing out on my childhood. That’s so awkward, you know?”

V wrinkled his nose, since that had indeed conjured a mental image of a whole lot of husky, tattooed, gross prisoners coming after him. "On the other hand," he said, "I could use that to my advantage. Get them to do my bidding. Seduce a guard into letting me out." He grinned. "If a zombie apocalypse comes, it's you and me against the world, Tiny. We'd burn those zombie fuckers and rebuild the world."

He noticed the little streaks of blue appearing in her hair, and smiled. Her colour-changing hair came in really handy sometimes, as a way for him to gauge her mood when she wasn't up for talking about it. Letting him know that he was managing to cheer her up a bit was one of its most useful qualities.

"Yeah, I can imagine," he said. "Probably a good thing I saw your note first, or I might've said something stupid to her without realizing she didn't know." He absently twirled a lock of her hair around his fingertip. "But once she knows, it'll be like it was with your dad and your dad-mums, right?"

“That’s a risk you may have to take, unfortunately. Seducing a guard may get you out, but it will almost certainly get you in some pretty uncomfortable positions beforehand,” she responded, amused. When he continued, she laughed, nodding. “We totally would. I’d disguise myself as one of them to blend in and you can just bulldoze them over with a mix of your stupid looks and your giant body. It’s a flawless plan.”

Her hair was very much like having a permanent mood ring that she couldn’t always control. Since she was a child, she’d really always just let it go with whatever colour it wished, which often meant that it gave away her feelings more easily than she ever could on her own. Of course, few but V could really read the colours for what they meant.

“Yeah, I tried to post something as quickly as I could so that that wouldn’t happen,” she responded, pinching idly at his (much too muscular) upper arm as he twirled her hair. “I hope so. At least it’ll be done, then. No more uncomfortable death conversations, you know?”

"True," V conceded. "Especially if I get stuck in a prison with no hot guards. I suppose I won't crush your skull after all." He was amused, though. "I don't think zombies much care what I look like. I'd just look like a giant man-steak to them. But I'm a man-steak that fights back, so."

He winced slightly at the pinch, which hurt, but it faded away quickly enough. "I can't even imagine what it'd be like to have to tell someone that they're going to die in the future. But she's not going to die here, right? There's no war here, or anything." Although, he could see how it might be harder to find out you were going to die in the future and live with the knowledge of that than to actually die. Her dad and dad-mums had seemed to do alright with it, so hopefully that wouldn't be true.

“Good choice, Victorien,” she responded, grinning. She laughed as he continued, reaching to pinch his nose instead of his arm. “And that’s different, how? You look like a giant man-steak to everyone.” Her hair had all but turned completely blue once more, a sign that her panicked mood had mostly passed and that he’d done his job effectively of cheering her up.

She nodded as he spoke. “Yeah, I think you’re right,” she said. “Everything should be okay now that she’s here and once she knows. It’ll be rough, but at least we’re all here and alive and together now.” She looked at him curiously. “I’m sorry your family isn’t here, though. I mean, there are oodles of Weasleys, but still. You okay?”

V laughed, and turned his head away when she pinched his nose. "It's different because normal people don't actually try to eat me alive," he said. "Non-zombies like their steak cooked, even if it's rare."

The argument was dissolving into even more ridiculousness than it had been to begin with, but that didn't matter, because it was another sign of her mood being better, along with the blue returning to her hair. And now she was asking after his family, which admittedly had crossed his mind. "Yeah, I think so," he said. "I miss them, but I mean... I was traveling around without them back home, so I'm more used to it, I guess. Maybe I'll start missing them more if I'm here long enough."

He kind of did a little, now that he was thinking about it, but not enough to qualify as homesick, precisely. This place was weird, but he didn't feel alone; he had been getting to know his alternate family and as many other people around here as he could, which would help stave off that feeling. "I haven't really put too much thought into how long I'm going to be here or whether they'll show up, you know?"

“Not yet,” she responded in a mock-warning tone.

The dissolution of conversation into ridiculousness was definitely a sign of normalcy between them. Frankly, Theo was terribly glad that they could even have normal, considering the circumstances. “Yeah, that makes sense. I honestly miss Granddad, but it wasn’t too hard to show up here. Not really. It probably has helped that I showed up to fairly instant family.”

She nodded. “I bet they’ll show up. Some of them, anyway. You’re family is fucking gigantic, you know,” she said, shrugging. She fell silent then, turning a little thoughtful. “I missed you.”

"Note to self," V said, "Keep an eye out for a cannibal apocalypse, too. Might not be quite as likely to survive that one."

Well, there was safety in numbers, from both cannibals and from homesickness; V was used to having large groups of people around, even if they weren't his family. His family really was gigantic, and he liked that, it had made him a very social person. "Well, Hannah's here, and Jane's here," he said. "And you're here."

She was really the main person here who made this compound feel like... well, not home exactly, but a place worth staying in. Not even her company so much as knowing what this place meant to her, automatically gave it some sentimental value for him too. After a moment, he added, "The family I've met from other worlds helps, too, even if it's not quite the same."

“Nope. You’d probably be the first eaten, too. You’d feed more people,” she responded, poking at his chest.

“Not to mention Sirilla and Aunt Jane and Uncle Luke. My parents too, of course. There’s a lot of people here from our world, just not a ton of Weasleys just yet.”

As soon as she’d admitted to missing him, she’d been concerned that saying so would bring up a conversation that she wasn’t sure she was ready to have just yet. But it wasn’t really addressed, and there was a part of her too that was a little frowny at that. She didn’t belabor the point, though. “They’re all so great, man. I can’t even get over it.”

"Yeah, pretty sure I'd be among the first targets if it came to cannibalism," V said, mock sadly. "Whether we're talking cannibal apocalypse or a Donner Party situation. And if we were freezing to death, people would probably want to cut me open and use my skin for a blanket to keep warm. It kind of sucks to be a giant sometimes."

He kind of doubted he'd be nice enough to just let people kill and eat him, if it came to that, though he supposed it depended on who the people were. With any luck, he'd never actually have to find out.

Nodding, he said, "Yeah, I know. I don't know them back home, though, you know? So even though they're from our world and part of my family, it's not really the same thing. It's nice to have people here that I know." He looked at her. "It is really cool that they're here, though, all the people we never got to meet. Especially for you."

He still wasn't touching on the topic of her missing him, not because he hadn't noticed it or because he was avoiding talking about it, but because he didn't have anything much to say on the subject. They'd been apart, so he naturally assumed that she had missed him; even if she didn't miss being in a relationship, he still figured that she would miss him as a friend. On its own, the statement didn't seem like anything particularly significant, and he wasn't going to assume that it was. It was much easier to just deal with her at face value, even though he knew full well she kept quite a bit hidden.

“Oh, you totally would be. You’d better just hope our next stop isn’t like… Easter Island,” she responded, laughing. When he continued, her laughter did as well. “Girl, you know it. If I were freezing to death, you’d better believe I’d be all up inside of you in a heartbeat. And we could probably fit two of me, at least in you. Maybe two and a half.”

She nodded at that. “Yeah, I totally get that. It’s weird having all of these parents, you know. I’m happy, but it’s not like… I don’t know, it’s hard to explain. I love them all, and they’re fantastic and beautiful. But it’s not like I’m young enough to be raised anymore. So it’s great having them, but they’re more like friends than anything. They’re so amazing, though.” She’d built bonds with so many of them, too, and she wouldn’t have traded that for anything in the world.
