Who: Theodore Nott15-thg & Arion Carrow1-can
What: meeting alternate world... family, of a sort.
When: Thursday
Where: in the village
Warnings: TBD

Logically, Theodore had not yet figured out how he was supposed to feel about Arion Carrow. So far as he knew, the man did not even exist in his world and was therefore an unknown. He obviously cared for Theodore's alternate mother very much, but Theodore was not biologically his son; did he consider the alternate world Theodore to be his son anyway? Theodore was not sure how he would react to the man behaving as his father. It would be strange, at the very least, since he could already tell that Arion was very different than his father at home. He was not incredibly experienced with different types of parents and parenting styles. It seemed a purely emotional territory, and therefore one that Theodore was likely to have trouble navigating.

But he was willing enough to try, especially since that seemed to be somewhat the purpose of this place, and the experiments going on here. His brand of logic was not helping him very much at the moment, with all of this Christmas stuff, and with his new scientist in general, but he was determined to persist and handle all of it to the best of his ability. The perfectionist in him certainly wasn't going to let the matter go.

He arrived early at the store Arion had suggested, because "about twenty minutes" was not a precise time, and he preferred to wait rather than to be late. With ten minutes to go before the twenty minute deadline passed, he looked around to get his bearings in the town again, at the merrily twinkling lights and the snow and the brightly colored displays.

Arion scratched his head and opened his mouth to speak, but stopped when the associate returned. After signing the papers, he stood tall and motioned for the two of them to exit the shop. "I didn't see you as much as I liked," he admitted.

"I always liked spending time with you when you were a baby," he said. "After you were born, your father didn't really do much to stop Adele and I from seeing each other, so I spent a lot of time with you. She would bring you to my flat, or I would go to the house and we would all be together. But after she died, your father tried to keep me from going to the funeral. He didn't think it would be proper, for her lover to be there, because he knew that her death affected me more than it ever would affect him. He had the son he wanted, and he didn't need anything else from her. So after that, there wasn't really a point to any of it. Your father took over raising you, and that was that."

As they left the shop, getting back out into the cold street, Arion sighed. "Listen, Theodore. I know that I'm not your father. I never tried to be, and I'm not going to pretend to be now. But... I love your mother. And I want to be here for you. So if you ever need to talk about something, anything. You can come to me... you know, if you want."

Theodore wasn't sure what kind of answer he expected, but that answer made quite a bit of sense. It would have been a very strange concept for him to grasp if Arion had said that his father Tewdric had simply accepted his wife's lover in his son's life. But it was entirely believable that his father had tried to keep Arion away. Theodore wondered how his other self felt about that, in Arion's world. For him, it didn't inspire any emotion in particular.

But the offer took him by surprise. He had sort of already understood that the sentiment was there, since Arion seemed so interested in meeting him, but he had wondered at it. Even Tom Riddle, his father's closest friend, had not had much of an emotional investment in Theodore, though they'd had some very interesting conversations. He wasn't sure what sort of thing he might need to talk to Arion about, either. He supposed that the perspective he had about Adele might be slightly helpful when it came to dealing with Pansy, but he'd have to trust Arion with Pansy's secrets to do that, and he wasn't sure how he felt about that. His mother was one thing; she'd met his mother, she'd never met Arion.

Still, he took the offer seriously. After a moment's thought, he nodded. "Thank you."

Arion nodded in return and gestured down the street, continuing to walk. He didn't really want to look for anything else for Adele at that moment though. He knew he would probably end up getting her more than just the necklace, but until he actually started earning coins, he didn't want to set his heart on anything he wouldn't be able to afford later.

"Anything else you want to ask me?" he asked Theodore then. He had hoped to learn about the boy, but either there wasn't much to tell or Theodore didn't feel like talking about himself. Either way, Arion didn't want to pressure him, but he did want to keep him talking.
