RP: None of That!
Who: Orla Quirke and Roger Davies

What: Snarking and wedding present shopping

Where: London

When: Monday 6 October, Morning

Rating: SFW

Roger sat in the middle of a café, impatiently drumming his fingers on the table as he sipped his coffee (his third for the morning) and read the Guardian. It was a Monday morning and Oxford Street heaved with people, a fact which usually calmed Roger down, but today only seemed to add to his sleep-deprived irritation. Following Appleby's loss in their last game, Roger had been having trouble sleeping sure that he was somehow partly-responsible for his team's inability to win at home or stay on form. Luckily, he was going to be spending the day with Orla which usually lifted his spirits immensely. He glanced up again, hoping to see her walking towards him - although they weren't set to meet for another fifteen minutes - and sighed. Shrugging a little he went back to his paper, tutting to himself as he read his way through the World News section.

Finally, after ten minutes and a slice of cake that would have given the team nutritionist the vapours, Roger looked up and smiled. "Hey you, I've been sat here waiting for ages like and idiot!"

Roger watched Orla read through the list and grinned to himself. Ever practical, he could see the gears whirring behind her head, discerning the best possibly item on the list. Orla's practicality was just one of the reason Roger enjoyed her company so much - she tended to ground everyone around her.

He bit his lip for a second, weighing up his desire to tweak his nose at a woman who deemed a rice cooker to be somehow offensive with his desire to keep the peace; the desire to make nice had approximately the same chance as a snowflake in a thermonuclear explosion. "I think you're right," he agreed wolfishly as he led the way to the Home section. "It's not like I can't handle an irate socialite." Looking around for a moment, he spotted the cooking section and after a moment of browsing, he plonked the most expensive rice cooker into the trolley. "That was easy," he commented with a smile. "Now what?"

"There's also the fact that Sybil and Cyprian likely won't be opening wedding presents at the wedding. They tend to take those home, so it's possible her mum will never even see it until she visits and snoops about!" Orla didn't really know if Sybil's mum were the type to snoop about someone else's home, but it wouldn't surprise her one bit. Some mums were just that mental. Thankfully, she didn't think her mum would ever snoop about her home whether or not she were married. And if she did, well, Orla hoped she'd have a good reason, like trying to find something she actually needed or wanted as opposed to just being nosy.

"Well, I'd idly thought about browsing for Christmas presents. Get some of my shopping done early, or at least get some ideas." Although it was never too early to get Christmas shopping started, she wasn't entirely sure what to get everyone. "Did you have anything else you needed to get while here," she asked. After all, coming in for something was more important than idly browsing for possible Christmas ideas.

Roger shrugged and smiled. "I'm assuming so, I mean there's the whole Graeco-Celtic element of my mother's family, so you never quite know which tradition they'll follow but I think that's the plan. Sybil's mother put the kibosh on the whole money pinning thing." He hummed looking around the store for a moment, thinking for a moment about what to do next.

"That sounds perfect to me actually," he agreed genially. "I need to get some Christmas ideas too. I have to buy for you, and the Marcus, and the girls, and a whole bunch of people. Where do you want to look first?"

"Marcus, huh?" Orla wiggled her brows a little, grinning at Roger. She had her own opinions and issues with Marcus, even now, but she was more than capable of shoving them aside, especially if it meant teasing Roger. That, and she couldn't place who the girls were off the top of her head and didn't want to let on to that. "Well if you need to get ideas for Marcus, let's head off to the men's section. Unless you think he'd like bake-ware?" Who knew; maybe he did. "You can get him a rice cooker, too." Or not, but the thought amused Orla either way. "Plus, I can get ideas for Dad there. He's always a pain to shop for. Never know what he'll like, and he always says to just surprise him." She shook her head a little bit, thinking about how she used to get him all sorts of ties. She was pretty sure he only wore them to make her happy. But now that she could afford to get him more than a tie, she'd been trying to figure out the perfect presents for him. She thought she had a few ideas, but she wanted to run them by her mum before committing to anything.
