Dean's Birthday!
Who: Open to: Dean, Seamus, Dominic, Susan, Ernie, Alicia, Lavender, Oliver, Harry, Hannah, George.
What: Dean's birthday party
Where: The Roost
When: Sunday afternoon/evening/night?
Rating: SFW - for now

There had been no big shouts of 'surprise', Seamus knew Dean far too well for that. He'd just lead him up to The Roost after Battlescars and let him push the door open to reveal a sandy floor, warm salt-and-coconut scented air and a 'Starry Night' sky. There was a bar at one end of the room, stocked and ready for people to help themselves (Seamus wasn't working tonight, though he'd doubtless end up there showing off his cocktail skills at some point). Along the side wall were tables for the food, already containing Aunt Rose's jerk chicken and Seamus's attempt at a pineapple upside down cake, vastly outdone by Aileen Finnigan's cherry cheesecake next to it. The rest of the large room was scattered with deckchairs, apart from a small decked area for dancing. The music of steel drums floated from nowhere and despite the bleak grey sky outside the room glowed with sunlight.

Dean and Seamus

Seamus struggled to get up out of one of the brightly coloured deck chairs. The empty cocktail glass was still cool in his hand and he swayed slightly, the alcohol in that daiquiri rushing to his head all at once when he stood up. The Roost was, finally, practically empty. Even Dominic had gone home - which meant they'd have to take down all the charms tomorrow. Thank goodness the room was soundproofed, as was Seamus's flat.

He made his way through the sand to where Dean was standing, apparently contemplating a midnight(ish) snack by the food tables. "If you're thinking about the jerk chicken or the curry, eat it here. Anything else you can bring up with you." He stood at Dean's side, resting his head against Dean's upper arm. "Reckon it's bedtime."

Dean wasn't sure what, or indeed if, he wanted to eat. He was mostly just staring. Mostly things were pretty much gone. He shifted his arm, sending Seamus' head slumping into his side, and slung his arm around him. "Good plan," he said, grabbing a stray cookie and taking a bite.

"Thanks for the party, was awesome," he said emphatically. He was definitely feeling the alcohol, swaying ever so softly and making Seamus sway with him now he'd caught hold of him. He patted Seamus' side absently.

"Oof," Seamus vocalised as his pillow was rudely yanked away. Still, he tucked himself readily into Dean's side, hiding a yawn against his shirt. He'd been up early (for him) and though Dominic had done most of the work on the room, he'd helped. He opened his mouth and looked up at Dean, obviously hoping for a bite of cookie of his own.

He wrapped his arm around Dean's waist but made no attempt to stop the swaying. It was nice, the warm scented air, the music (no longer drowned out by chattering voices). "You're welcome. Was a good one. Not looking forward to topping it next year." That was a lie - of course he was looking forward to it. "The stairs are going to be interesting," he observed.

Dean rolled his eyes and held the cookie up for Seamus, and despite the temptation didn't pull it away at the last second, or smush it into Seamus' face.

"As long as you're there, I don't care what we do," he said. He squeezed Seamus to his side, always so glad of the company. "Crawling will always work. Not like I have dignity anyhow, not when I've cried all over you." As well as tactile he was apparently feeling a bit philosophical.

"I did like the steel drums though. I told you about the time I went and visited Mum's family and one of her cousins tried to teach me, right? I was like seven or something and I had to stand on a box so I could see properly." He unhooked his arm and demonstrated trying to hit the right bumps on the drums as if he was small again, his tongue stuck out in determination like he used to do as a child. "Only I forgot, took a step back to get one of the notes right near me and straight on my arse." He giggled and flailed his arms, almost gaining a repeat performance of the falling.

Seamus grinned around his mouthful of cookie, then swallowed. "Look at you," he said. "Going all gooey and sentimental in your old age." Okay, so he was actually technically older than Dean, but Dean was taller so Seamus figured that balanced it out somehow. (A thought which possibly only made sense in his head, and then only because of the drinks.) "As long as I'm there. Honestly." His tone made it quite obvious that he was always going to be there.

"Oi. None of that. I've done my share of crying on your shoulder." Seamus wasn't quite as prone to tears as Dean had been since the battle, but that didn't mean there hadn't been nights - and early mornings - and even afternoons. He grinned up. "It's always very dignified crying. We should wear top hats."

He let Dean pull away from him and watched, snorting with laughter at Dean's impression of himself. "Careful," he said, reaching out a hand as if to catch his flailing best mate. Though, given the height difference and Seamus's own unsteadiness it would probably have resulted in both of them going down. "I saw people doing, like, drumming but with paint..." Seamus's words failed him somewhat as he tried to describe what he meant, and did his own drumming mime before realising that without the paint he was just demonstrating drumming. "But there wasn't space."

He caught sight of the tattoo on his still outstretched arm and turned it, presenting it to Dean. "Your birthday is officially over." The flames that had engulfed the phoenix all day were gone.

"Oh, shut up, you berk, you know what I mean." Dean would happily celebrate his birthday seeing nobody but Seamus if he had to, but that thought slipped helpfully from his mind.

Dean sniggered and then pulled his face straight. "Yes, the tear tracks and snotty noses are totally dignified. Fancy hats it is."

"Drumming with paint?" he said, frowning at Seamus' mime. "I don't get it. Paint's liquid, how'd you drum with liquid? On what?" He made ineffectual mimes with his hands, honestly totally confused about what Seamus was trying to explain.

He looked at the presented tattoo and sighed. "Another year done." He made a vague mental note to pull out the tattoo designs for himself he'd got tucked away, try once more to come to a decision.

Seamus stepped forward and squeezed Dean in a birthday hug. Probably the fourth or fifth of the day, but who was counting? "Mmhmm," he lilted. "You love me, that's what it means."

He nodded seriously as he started to head for the door, dragging Dean with him. The sooner they tackled the stairs, the sooner they could collapse onto the bed (or, for Seamus, the couch). "I'll get fancy hats for next time," he promised. "Or I'll just transfigure something." They gained the narrow staircase, Seamus pausing just before they pushed through the wards to his own flat to ward the building in general. He might have had to make two attempts at the complicated magic that kept everything safe, but that didn't mean he was drunk.

He sniggered at Dean's attempts to comprehend and grabbed Dean's hands. "Stop that. You look daft. Up you go. I'll follow. Catch you if you fall and all that." He waited for Dean to go ahead, then tried a more comprehensible explanation. "Drumming on regular drums. Not steel drums, I don't think. Those big -" He made a motion for 'cylindrical' with his hands. "You know? And they put paint on the top, and you hit the drum and the paint goes everywhere." He mimed paint splattering, even though Dean was ahead of him now and couldn't see. "It looked fun."

"'Course I do, you love me too," he sing-songed back.

Dean took a deep breath before starting to attempt the stairs and ploughed up the first three steps before wobbling sightly and grabbing at the bannister and managing to just catch it and prevent himself falling backwards. In defeat he dragged himself forwards and onto his hands and knees, listening to Seamus coming up behind him.

"Oh, but why get paint everywhere? I mean I do that most days and it's just kind of irritating."

"Sure," Seamus agreed, without the slightest hesitation.

He managed the stairs with more grace than Dean, keeping his feet the entire time and everything. "Because it's fun, Thomas," he intoned seriously, though now that he thought about it he wasn't quite sure what the point of the paint-drum combination had been. "Because you'd get to see me and Susan and Ernie all covered in paint, rather than being the only one."

He didn't trust Dean to open the door, so once they reached the top of the stairs he squeezed in beside him to do it himself. "You take the bed," he said, heading for the couch and belatedly realising he should have picked up his shoes before they left The Roost. Never mind, he could get them tomorrow. "Still your birthday, can't make you sleep on the couch."

"Huh, that might be kind of fun," he said, imagining all four of them thoroughly paint splattered. For some reason at least Seamus appeared to be topless, but that just made the image of him paint-streaked even more amusing.

Dean swayed slightly as he levered himself up with the help of the wall. "Mmkay, 's too short anyhow," he said, then took a look at where Seamus was going and frowned. "Why're you going to the sofa? Bed too good for you?"

Grinning, Seamus held his hands up in sleepy-uncoordinated triumph. He had won! "Maybe next year." He checked the door was closed, then pulled off the cotton t-shirt he'd been wearing. No matter what Susan said, you didn't need to go change in the bathroom when it was just you and the people who'd spent six years sharing a room with you. He'd have done the same in front of Ron, Harry or Neville. Probably.

He was unbuttoning his jeans when Dean's question registered. "Being a good host," he answered. "Your birthday, your bed." He frowned, that wasn't quite right. "My bed, I mean, but you get to sleep in it all by yourself." The frown remained, that didn't sound right either. "I'm being nice!"

Dean thought for half a second that he could suggest just coming to the studio and transfiguring a few drums, but then he realised his paint was expensive and not really the best for just getting messy with. "Yeah, sure. I could charm it to sparkle and stuff."

He was yawning through Seamus' explanation and then rolled his eyes. "Not my birthday any more," he said, walking over and grabbing Seamus' arm to display the very much not-flaming tattoo. "And you're being an idiot. C'mon, bed," he said, tugging a bit. "We can share."

Seamus grinned, imagining Susan and Ernie covered in sparkly pink paint. (Dean, in his imagining of the scene, got a rather more tasteful silver-and-gold look.) "We should totally do that. Don't have to wait a year." If there was one thing Seamus was good at, it was finding excuses for celebration.

"M'always an idiot," Seamus pointed out - by which he meant that Dean always thought so, not that he always actually was. "Don't stop just because it's your birthday." Nonetheless, he let Dean guide him over to the bed. A feat that was quite impressive, considering Dean's earlier unsteadiness. "Mam'd have my head if I didn't offer you the bed." Never mind the number of times Dean had crashed on the sofa after Seamus was already asleep. He pushed the jeans down and stepped out of them, kicking them carelessly away.

"Sure, we can work it out." He was feeling sleepy now, his feet dragging slightly. "T'morro' tho."

He smiled sleepily as he pulled off his own shirt (buttons still done up), and shoved off his jeans. "So 'm I." He yawned again, scratching absently at his forehead. "Yeah, but it's not like I care about sharing with you." Sure if Seamus was asleep and he came over for whatever reason he took the couch, but that was purely because he didn't want to wake Seamus up.

Thanks to the sand his socks were somewhere in the Roost, tucked into his shoes, also Seamus' bed was probably going to have sand in it soon. Dean was past caring though and pulled back the covers and flopped into the bed.

Seamus did, at least, let Dean get into bed first, giving him the space to starfish out the way he usually did. It was (somewhat pathetically, Seamus supposed) about the only time his double bed got used as such. "Tomorrow," he agreed, stashing his wand on the bedside table.

He followed Dean into bed, throwing one arm loosely across Dean's stomach because by now they'd learned there was really no point pretending they weren't going to end up this way. With the other, he pulled the blankets halfway up. Seamus wriggled, bare sandy toes pressed against Dean's ankle. They hadn't bothered to turn the lights on and although the sun through the window was definitely going to piss them off in the morning, Seamus was too comfortable to move. "Good?" he asked, just to make sure.

Dean shuffled a little getting himself comfortable and made sure he probably wouldn't get his arm lain on in the night. "'m good," he said, closing his eyes. He could feel himself starting to drift off immediately, Seamus' bed familiar and comfortable.
