Dean's Birthday!
Who: Open to: Dean, Seamus, Dominic, Susan, Ernie, Alicia, Lavender, Oliver, Harry, Hannah, George.
What: Dean's birthday party
Where: The Roost
When: Sunday afternoon/evening/night?
Rating: SFW - for now

There had been no big shouts of 'surprise', Seamus knew Dean far too well for that. He'd just lead him up to The Roost after Battlescars and let him push the door open to reveal a sandy floor, warm salt-and-coconut scented air and a 'Starry Night' sky. There was a bar at one end of the room, stocked and ready for people to help themselves (Seamus wasn't working tonight, though he'd doubtless end up there showing off his cocktail skills at some point). Along the side wall were tables for the food, already containing Aunt Rose's jerk chicken and Seamus's attempt at a pineapple upside down cake, vastly outdone by Aileen Finnigan's cherry cheesecake next to it. The rest of the large room was scattered with deckchairs, apart from a small decked area for dancing. The music of steel drums floated from nowhere and despite the bleak grey sky outside the room glowed with sunlight.

"I'm so glad you understand! I get such a hard time from the boys and my brother about it!"

"I don't know if I'd say dark wizards have brains," Susan said, taking a bite of a canapé. "We apprehended a group who truly believed that the world was meant to end two years ago after a supercharged spirit of evil apparently coalesced in a chinchilla in the West Country, so..."

"The boys still have so much to learn about fashion," Lavender said ruefully, shaking her head.

Grinning, Lavender spared a glance at her drink, which seemed to be going down as easily as the first. "And here I was thinking that a drugs bust on someone smuggling illegal potions ingredients in porcelain ducks was going to be the party anecdote of the evening." She sighed dramatically. "I think you've got me beat there," she teased.

"They really do," she said with a mock sigh. "Still, at least I've got a friend like you to get enjoyment out of it!"

"Porcelain ducks, really? That's ridiculous! What the hell's porcelain going to do to stop detection charms," Shaking her head, Susan laughed. "To be fair, usually my party anecdotes tend to fall a bit more flat, you know 'we busted a ring of human traffickers who were selling body parts on the potions black market' so it is nice to have a comparably light story to tell."

"I can be useful sometimes," Lavender agreed with false modesty.

She sipped her cocktail. "Bugger all is the answer you're looking for," she supplied with a smirk. One of the porcelain ducks, now empty, was actually adorning her desk now.

"So," she said, turning to cast an eye across the party. "Who here is worth flirting with tonight, do you think?"

"More than useful darling, life saving more like it," Susan said with a wink.

Susan laughed, grabbing a worryingly pink cocktail from the table. "People will do all sorts of strange things in order to get away with breaking the law," she said sagely. "Still, please tell me you at least kept one of the ducks."

She looked around the room with a practiced eye. "Well there's George Weasley over there," she said pointing with her chin. "He might be good for something. Plus Oliver Wood, and Potter too of course."

"Yep. I needed a souvenir. Pride of place in my cubicle."

"I suppose," Lavender said, finishing her drink, "that I'm just going to have to dance with all of them. Just to see if anything happens." Harry might just be bewildered, but that would be fun anyway. "It's a hard life, but someone's got to do it," she added with a grin.

"Have I told you before that you're one of my favourite people Lavender? Because you totally are."

She grinned and gave the other woman a good natured wack on the derriere. "Don't let me hold you back, and remember - if anything happens I want an owl during the cigarette."
