Dean's Birthday!
Who: Open to: Dean, Seamus, Dominic, Susan, Ernie, Alicia, Lavender, Oliver, Harry, Hannah, George.
What: Dean's birthday party
Where: The Roost
When: Sunday afternoon/evening/night?
Rating: SFW - for now

There had been no big shouts of 'surprise', Seamus knew Dean far too well for that. He'd just lead him up to The Roost after Battlescars and let him push the door open to reveal a sandy floor, warm salt-and-coconut scented air and a 'Starry Night' sky. There was a bar at one end of the room, stocked and ready for people to help themselves (Seamus wasn't working tonight, though he'd doubtless end up there showing off his cocktail skills at some point). Along the side wall were tables for the food, already containing Aunt Rose's jerk chicken and Seamus's attempt at a pineapple upside down cake, vastly outdone by Aileen Finnigan's cherry cheesecake next to it. The rest of the large room was scattered with deckchairs, apart from a small decked area for dancing. The music of steel drums floated from nowhere and despite the bleak grey sky outside the room glowed with sunlight.

"Of course it is!" crowed Oliver, laughing and sidling up to Susan, putting himself smack in the middle of Harry and Susan. "You have an excellent laugh, did you know?" he said, winking, and then moved to grab a glass of something at the bar. It might have belonged to someone else, but he didn't much care. He finished it in a couple gulps, before turning back to his little grouping.

"I'm REALLY ready to get down now!" he announced, before moving himself behind Susan and putting his hand on her hip. "That is, if you think you can handle it?"

"Especially when it's with the pin-up boy for Puddlemere, and the man who spent five minutes trying not to laugh at one of his coworkers being turned into a gazelle," Susan said with a smirk as Oliver downed a drink at the bar.

"I feel like you're always ready to get down," Susan said over her shoulder, before shooting a grin at Harry. Placing her hand on top of Oliver's she began to move to the beat. "I think I can definitely handle dancing with two upstanding gents! It is nice that you didnt say something horrendous like 'are you ready to knock on Wood' because I may have had to hex you, which would have been a shame as you're cute."

"Pin up boy for Puddlemere? I don't know that I'd go that far. I mean, I DID save a shot with only my pinky, so that's close..." Oliver joked. He didn't say it much, but as much as he liked being attractive, he didn't like thinking of himself as being known more for his looks than his quidditch talent. One was an accident of birth, the other was something he worked very hard for. But he wasn't about to correct Susan on the distinction at the moment, not two drinks in and waiting for a buzz to start.

"If I'm in Finnigans, chances are that's true," he added, moving even more once her hand landed on top of his and she moved along with him. That was much more like it.

"I'd never say something as silly as that, Susan. Not unless requested. Mostly the Wood puns are thrown my way instead of the other way round. I'm perfectly happy to remain un-hexed, cute or no. Though if you'd like to consider me so, I won't argue."

She laughed easily. "That's what I mean, silly! Best keeper in the league, or so my friends always tell me," she said, noting the way his posture stiffened momentarily. Obviously, Oliver was a man with hidden depths, which only piqued her curiosity further. Treating people like puzzles was an unfortunate, if interesting byproduct of being an Auror, and it definitely wasn't something she could turn off. "Some of them even prevail upon me to switch my allegiances from Appleby," she added with a cheeky grin. "But my brother and father would never forgive me."

Susan nodded in acknowledgement and leant back into him, swaying to the beat for a moment, feeling his heart thud in his chest, and his breath in her hair.

"You wouldn't believe the amount of dirty bone puns my brother gets thrown at him," she said with a smile. "Particularly from the girls, seeming as he seemed to completely ignore my short-arse genes. The question though, Mr. Wood is whether you want me to find you cute or not." There was a challenge in her voice, though it was slightly marred by the fact that she poked her tongue out at Harry after issuing it.

At first, Harry wasn't sure what to do. Should he leave? Did Susan want to be alone with Oliver? They were flirting pretty obviously, and he didn't want to be a third wheel. But he also was having fun watching them, and they hadn't excluded him at all. This was a case where he was over thinking things, he decided, and wondered when that had become his habit rather than rush in headfirst.

"Oliver wants everyone to find him cute," Harry said, chiming in at last. "And for the record, I wasn't the only one laughing at Perkins. He really should learn to check where a box of chocolates comes from before helping himself." This particular box had been emblazoned with Weasley Wizard Wheezes, and had been confiscated from a jilted bride about to send them to her former-fiances Muggle family.

Awkwardly, at least compared to Oliver and Susan, he began to dance with them.

Susan sniggered slightly. "Of course he does," she said, smiling at Harry and grabbing his hand. "I have to admit that I found it funny when Perkins got turned into a gazelle too," she said, still smiling. "Less so when Witherspoon got transformed into one during a mission earlier that day. Still, at least you and I will be working together much more closely?"

Susan's smile grew more pronounced as Harry began to dance with them. He was awkward at first, and he lacked Oliver's charged sexuality, but Susan privately felt that that was just as well, given that they were going to be partnering up the next day. "I knew you two could dance," she said, swaying between them.

"Oi, you two leave off!" Oliver said in mock indignation. "Not fair for you to gang up! I absolutely don't care about EVERYONE finding me cute. Just FUN people." He was fully joking now, though of course he didn't mind if people found him attractive, so long as they also found him brilliant and good at Keeping. That was important.

He listened to Susan and Harry's work banter with bemusement-very few transfigured gazelle in quidditch, perhaps that was a flaw-and instead perked up when he was mentioned again. "Harry, ole boy, I see those dancing lessons I never gave you paid off. Few more drinks we might invite you to teach US," he joked, laughing, though a thumb traced Susan's hip. He was a straight male, and she smelled nice. Oliver also wasn't made of stone.

"Ha, never," Susan replied with a grin. "We're Aurors, so we've always got one another's backs, even apparently when it comes to deciding if someone is cute, fun, or both."

She felt Oliver begin to gyrate against her in time to the beat as she and Harry discussed work - something that she had tried, and failed to not discuss with various colleagues all evening. "Harry's an excellent dancer," she said loyally, as Oliver sent a shiver through her with his hand. "With excellent friends," she added with a bell-like laugh.

"It's true Oliver. Aurors never leave each other out in the cold." He was grinning now, fully enjoying himself. It was hard not to with Susan and Oliver; they were forces of natures each in their own way. "Not even when it just concerns who finds who cute."

Harry wasn't unaware that Oliver and Susan were perhaps dancing more closely with each other than with him, but it didn't bother him. They were nice to look at, not that he'd have said so out loud; possibly he should try not to think about it too much. He should probably leave soon, but he was reluctant to just yet.

"Thanks Susan, though I don't think my dancing can be described as excellent." Barely adequate was a better adjective, though he was having such fun it hardly mattered. "Very excellent friends."

"I'm glad that you lot are protecting the world via reassuring one another of your relative merits," Oliver offered, nodding vaguely. "After all, I wouldn't want a dark wizard hunter to be self conscious when he or she is out protecting little old me." He dipped along with the pair of them, happily in his element as he moved to the music. "And especially when it comes to agreeing on how very adorable I am," he added, not wanting the conversation to stray too far from that point.

If Oliver noticed that Harry was perhaps a little excited about the three of them dancing together, it didn't much bother him. He was open minded, after all, and it was fun, the three of them. They made a nice little pairing, as far as Oliver could see. He always liked Harry having fun, and he was very much enjoying the laughter, and naturally the soft curvature of the woman in front of him. By all accounts an excellent evening so far.

"Very excellent friends see past the steps themselves to the intent," Oliver responded, using a free hand to grab Harry's waist and pull him closer. "Come now, don't shy away!" he said, looking over Susan's shoulder and giving him a wink. Though looking over his shoulder also gave him a bit of a view down her front, and that was very nice indeed.

"That's our big secret Oliver," she has with a smile. "The reason we're so very, very good at kicking arse and saving the world is that we have nicely stroked egos. Also, we get to save people like little old you, who are so very appreciative."

Susan smiled at Harry, noting the flush in his cheeks that was coming from such close proximity to both her and Oliver. It didn't bother her in the slightest, and it was nice to see him having fun, although it did engage the pesky little part of her brain that found matchmaking such a rewarding pastime.

"I couldn't have put it better myself, handsome," she said with a laugh at Harry's expression as Oliver deftly mashed Harry against her. Obligingly, she placing a hand on Harry's hip. There were definitely worst sandwiches to be in then this one, particularly when one member was rather pointedly looking down the top of her dress.
