Dean's Birthday!
Who: Open to: Dean, Seamus, Dominic, Susan, Ernie, Alicia, Lavender, Oliver, Harry, Hannah, George.
What: Dean's birthday party
Where: The Roost
When: Sunday afternoon/evening/night?
Rating: SFW - for now

There had been no big shouts of 'surprise', Seamus knew Dean far too well for that. He'd just lead him up to The Roost after Battlescars and let him push the door open to reveal a sandy floor, warm salt-and-coconut scented air and a 'Starry Night' sky. There was a bar at one end of the room, stocked and ready for people to help themselves (Seamus wasn't working tonight, though he'd doubtless end up there showing off his cocktail skills at some point). Along the side wall were tables for the food, already containing Aunt Rose's jerk chicken and Seamus's attempt at a pineapple upside down cake, vastly outdone by Aileen Finnigan's cherry cheesecake next to it. The rest of the large room was scattered with deckchairs, apart from a small decked area for dancing. The music of steel drums floated from nowhere and despite the bleak grey sky outside the room glowed with sunlight.

Ernie and Seamus

The party was in full swing with beach-inspired music reverberating around the room. Ernie had put his healer-ness away for the day, intent on having fun without having to remind anyone about the ills of overindulgence or apparating safetly without splinching one-self. Instead, he had taken partial ownership over the dance floor and took seriously his duty of making sure everyone danced at least once with him.

Now, it was Seamus' turn, and the fact that his friend may have been a bit tipsy would only make Ernie's job easier.

"Come on, mate," he said, grabbing for Seamus' hands. "You can't let me dance alone. Listen to this good music - you can't resist it!"

Seamus knew that his birthday, in a safe space, with people he knew was one of few occasions where Dean would feel comfortable drinking enough to actually effect him. So, just in case anything happened, Seamus was still mostly sober. Perhaps a bit more euphoric than was usual, a touch more free in his movements, but not out of it. Still, when Ernie clutched at his hands Seamus nodded and let himself be lead out onto the dance floor.

He liked to dance, though he wasn't much good, and he didn't get the chance that often. There were gay clubs, of course, but his schedule only allowed for that once in a blue moon. So he swung one arm easily around Ernie's shoulders saying, "Sure, sure, but I can't do any of that fancy footwork you've been doing." He'd kicked his shoes off earlier and the wood was warm beneath his bare feet. "It's been a good party. Dean's happy."

Ernie too had lost his shoes long ago, had even gone all-in for the beach theme with shorts and a loud, tropical shirt that suited his personality. "No fancy footwork needed, just one-two one-two. But I'll let you pass, for now."

He held Seamus close as he moved them in time to the music, Ernie's hand holding the one of Seamus' that wasn't around his shoulders. He loved to dance and sway with someone in his arms, letting the music live through him.

"So the party is brilliant, of course, thanks to you and Dominic. I think Dean's happy. Are you?"

Seamus let Ernie take the lead, happy to move with him to the music. It felt good, to be close to someone for a while. Not that he didn't get more than his fair share of hugs - his friends were affectionate types, but he was never going to complain about getting more. "Been a while since I did even this much dancing," he admitted. "Clubs tends to get a bit... grabby." With the scar, he was hypersensitive of any wandering hands.

"Of course I'm happy," he said, grinning. Honestly, Dean being happy was a large part of what it took to keep things right in Seamus's world - his other friends being happy, his pub and the journals going well were excellent bonuses. "And what about you?"

"Clubs are overrated, and there isn't often much room to dance, just grinding." What he didn't say was that Seamus could probably use a little grabbing every now and then, at least in a fully consensual location and circumstance.

"Good. I'm all right myself - you all know I'm brilliant," he joked. "I've got work and here, though I could use something else every now and then." With a wink, he tried to turn Seamus in a playful twirl, then returned him to his arms. "Am trying to think of a bloke for Sue, though, or a bird too. Someone who isn't intimidated by an Auror. And what about you - think you'd ever let me take a shot at finding someone for you? I can't let you pine over Dean the rest of your life, can I?" he joked.

"You say that like grinding's bad," Seamus said, sticking his tongue out a little. A snog and a bit of grinding in a club was the closest he'd come to sex in something like a year. Possibly closer to a year and a half. He just preferred grinding with strangers to be fully clothed, something they weren't always quite so keen on.

He laughed at Ernie's wink - and then more as Ernie twirled him, causing him to practically trip over his feet. Fortunately, Ernie's arms were there to catch him before anything untoward happened. "Couldn't we all," he said. "Susie's hard to pick for. I mean... you know me, not one to meddle." God no, enough of his friends did that already he had no desire to join them. He groaned quietly as Ernie continued, proving himself exactly the type to meddle - though at least he was asking first.

"For Merlin's sake, Ernie. I am not pining over Dean. We're friends, we're both happy with that." He shook his head. "I'm not opposed to finding someone, but you know how well previous attempts have gone..." Badly. Seamus's refusal to sit anyone down and explain his hesitance to get naked, the difficulty he had opening up, meant most people just got fed up and walked away. "I don't know. Maybe I need someone who's been through the same things, but I don't want to risk messing up my friendships."

"Grinding's better for the bedroom - it's far more romantic to do a rumba. Just my opinion, of course." Another bloke and Ernie might have been tempted to do naughty things to Seamus' stuck out tongue - hell, it was tempting with his friend too - but Ernie had decided some time ago that he preferred Seamus as a friend.

"I was just pulling your leg, sort of," he defended, "about the Dean bit anyway. But I want you to be happy and well-shagged, and now that I seem to have your permission, I can start searching. So, not someone you're already good friends with. What else, other than their being devastatingly handsome? Though be warned, you'll likely never get a bloke as handsome as me," he added with a grin.

Seamus shrugged. "If there was grinding going on in my bedroom maybe I wouldn't resort to clubs." He shook his head, afraid he sounded like he was whining. He really didn't mean to, he was happy - so happy he couldn't believe it some days - with almost every aspect of his life. Ernie just happened to have hit upon the one where he had some legitimate grounds for complaint.

He smiled, though part of him squirmed away from the idea of a serious search being mounted on his behalf. What if he disappointed Ernie by messing it up, as he always seemed to do? "Someone... patient?" he suggested with a wry smile. "I would never expect someone as handsome as you, Ernie." He really wasn't expecting much of anything. "I don't think I'm cut out for relationships. I'd rather put my friends first."

"Hey," he protested when Seamus agreed all too readily with the 'not as handsome as Ernie' concept. He'd meant it as a joke, after all. "Maybe he'll even be more handsome, if such a thing exists. But either way, he'd have to be worthy of you first."

He released his hold on Seamus to cup his friend's face between his hands, making certain he didn't dare look away as Ernie next spoke. "If idiots like Malfoy can have relationships, then so can you. You're ten times the man he'd ever be. And as for cut out for it, you're handsome, and kind, and compassionate, and care so much for your friends and the whole bloody community. If you aren't cut out for it, neither are the rest of us. And before you even think of arguing with me about the handsome bit, remember that I've seen your bits and found them quite nice to look at. The same with the rest of you."

"More handsome than you?" Seamus opened his eyes wide in mock-astonishment. "I don't think I could handle it. I can barely keep my hands off you." It had always been easier talking and joking about sex than actually doing it.

And then Ernie's hands were cupping his face and Seamus's eyes went genuinely wide. When had this got so serious? He'd only been joking. Mostly. He'd been getting better, talking about 'real' things - but not in the middle of a party when he was a little drunk. He shook his head, trying to dislodge Ernie's grip. "Ernie..." He might be all those things Ernie had said, maybe, but none of that had served to make his relationships - if three months of dating and no sex could be called a relationship - work. "You weren't supposed to be looking," he joked. He didn't know how to respond to the rest of it.

"Well, you shouldn't have provided me with temptation then." Yes, Ernie had a tendency to get overzealous and overprotective when his friends thought lowly of themselves, but he would never ever allow them to feel like they weren't wanted or cared for.

He patted Seamus' cheeks before letting him go. "Now why don't we get ourselves some drinks. There's a party to be had, after all!"

Seamus laughed, glad to leave the serious topic behind them. "Better you than Susan, at least." He grinned, his slightly rumpled spirits back in order, and linked his arm through Ernie's as they headed off the dancefloor. "Let me make you a cocktail," he urged. "I'm really getting hang of the tequila sunrise and I bought in about three bottles of cocktail cherries that I need to use up."
