There were two youngsters in the shop today playing some game called rock, paper, size-ors today to figure out who could pick up the last copy of a comic we've started carrying. I'm not quite sure how it worked but it was rather interesting to watch. I don't remember ever having played such a game when I was younger. It must be something that has made its way to us from the Muggle world.

Have things calmed down any? Remember the offer for a manicure still stands. I picked up a few nice wraps after work. Some that change colors with your mood others have moving stencils. You can have first choice.

Rock, paper, scissors - it's a Muggle kids game used to make decisions about things. Scissors beat paper, rock beats scissors and paper beats rock. My cousins and I used to play to determine who got to lick the bowl when our grandmother baked cookies.

Why would you use a game to make decisions? That seems rather reckless does it not.

Why not? It's a kid's game, nothing life changing is being decided.

How do you know they aren't life changing decisions. For example there could have been a page in that comic that would have clarified what the young man who lost might do in his future and now he may never know.

At least now he knows he's got a shite friend if his friend won't let him read the comic after he's done. That's an important and life clarifying lesson to learn, too.

I suppose it is. However, if there is anything I've learned over the years it is that timing of a lesson is just as important as the lesson itself.

You don't seem to understand the concept of "game" very well. It's for fun.

I understand the concept of a game just fine. I simply refuse to gamble away life decisions.

Didn't realize comics were a life altering decision, sorry. I'll keep that in mind for the future though.

You never know when the smallest of choices are going to be life altering.

We played it as kids. Found out when I was in China it's called should shi ling and dates back at least to 200bce. I learned it from my father's father.

And what does one get if one wins?

Whatever you're playing for. First in line, the last doughnut, whatever. It's a little game that is more complex than it looks because it involves strategy, tactics, and psychology, on the part of both players.

Paper wraps rock, rock breaks scissors, scissors cut paper. Very simple, very complex.

And how do you ensure that the person you are playing against doesn't pause just long enough to win every time? Wouldn't taking turns be a much better solution?

You both have to throw at the same time or the game doesn't work.

And how do you guarantee they throw at exactly the same moment?

You're reading too much into it, luv.. It's just a friendly little game to settle a quick choice. You wouldn't play it with someone likely to try to cheat.

I just can't fathom why it's usefulness.

They have. So far there's been no Howlers today and I only received two yesterday. Unfortunately, there's been fewer morning customers today, but nothing too big.

The wraps sounds really brilliant! I'm free both tonight and tomorrow (I think) so bring them over and we'll see who gets what. A decision such as this, is a perfect example for when Rock, Paper, Scissors can be used.

Hopefully that will be the last of them. I'm sure something more entertaining will occur soon enough to get you all out of the spotlight.

Tuesday works perfectly for me. Not sure I'm all for the idea of a Muggle children's game deciding my nail art but we shall see.

Can only agree with that and hope that the positive side of the spotlight is what will remain once that happens.

Look at it this way: You were willing to let me have first pick, right? Well, then my first pick could be to try Rock, Paper, Scissor for the moving stencil wrap? (I love the idea of both of them, so I would be fine with either one of them).

I sincerely hope so.

We can try. Can't guarantee I'll play it correctly. Muggle games have always been my weak point.
