Gemma was trying to enjoy a nice, calming night after the day's work, but such a thing was impossible with the terrible howling coming from the corner of her flat. She tossed her book against the wall out of frustration and stood up from her sofa, disrupting her kneazle from his nap, and went to check on the crup who was making the racket.

The animal had been a loser in last night's crup fight, and while most owners handled their own crups, this one had been so angry at losing that he'd gotten into a fistfight and left without his crup. When Gemma had tried to owl him about it, the bastard had told her to take care of it herself - he seemed to think she was somehow responsible for the crup's losing and thus the creature was her responsibility.

She, however, was definitely more of a kneazle person than a crup person, and while she'd attempted some basic healing charms, she wasn't that good at them and the crup still looked to be in pain. Couldn't the bloody thing just heal itself and be done with it. She didn't want to care for it, and definitely couldn't take it to the vet - they'd wonder who she was and how the animal had gotten so badly injured. There was no question that the patterns of bites and scratches could only mean one thing, after all.

An indignant mew had her looking up from where she was checking on the crup and she couldn't help rolling her eyes at the animal who was truly king of this flat. "All right, Yevgeny. I'll get the smelly crup out of your territory, somehow."

She went to her closet and dug inside until she came out with some long, black clothing that wasn't really the sort of thing she wore often. She went to stand by the mirror and cast a disguise charm that would last a couple of hours, long enough to rid herself of the crup without being identified - thus instead of a dark-eyed brunette, she saw in the mirror a green-eyed blonde. Finally, she grabbed a large towel from the bathroom - it was ratty, she didn't need it anyway - and carefully wrapped it around the crup. "This wouldn't have happened if you'd only won," she muttered to it before Apparating away.

She'd heard of the rescue for magical creatures and hoped somebody was in at such a late hour. Sighing, she knocked on the door.

Rolf was surprised to hear the alert later in the evening that meant someone was at the door. He'd been working on his research and contemplating if he should pop over to Rose's before bed. It had to be a rescue, though, as not many people came here late like this.

He hurried down to the bottomn level, wand not at the ready but ready to be at the ready. So he was paranoid; so what? He looked out the door and saw a blonde with a bundle in her arms, and he unlocked and eased open the door. "How may I help you, miss?" He asked.

The boy at the door was younger than her, but it didn't matter as long as he took the crup off of her hands. She coughed and mentally prepared herself to speak in a different voice, vocalize from her head rather than her throat and try a different accent. She was shite at accents, but as long as it disguised her actual voice, it didn't matter.

"I found this bugger, injured on the street. I heard you helped them. Am I in the right place, or do I need to keep looking?"

Rolf tilted his head, looking her over. Her accent was a mixture, but he'd met a few people like that before. His gaze then went to the crup and stayed there, less interested currently in the person than the hurt animal.

"Yes, I help them," he said. "Come on in." He opened the door wide enough for her to walk through and let it close behind them. A flick of the wand had more of the inner lights come on. In the back, a few dogs barked at the changed, and a few of the other animals made noises at their night being interrupted. "Set it here on the counter, let me take a look at it," he told her, going around the counter so he could get a better look at it. He might have to Floo Luna right away, or if it wasn't too bad he could wait until morning and bring it by the vet.

She approached where he instructed and placed the towel-wrapped animal onto the counter, wincing as it yelped. Oh, just shut up and stop playing it up for sympathy, she thought to herself, though she didn't really think that - it just helped her keep her distance, something she was exceptionally good at.

She pulled the towel away to reveal the bitten and scratched crup who looked up at them with sad eyes. "He's not mine," she reaffirmed defensively. "I prefer kneazles. He was just so pathetic looking."

Rolf held out his hand to the injured animal. Crups could be fierce when injured or their loyalty tested. A tentative lick rewarded him, and he rubbed its head gently. "Look at you, little one," he murmured. "You've been fighting, haven't you? You sure got bit good."

He nodded faintly. "He is a bit pathetic," he agreed. "But fixable. I'll take care of him for tonight and send for the vet tomorrow morning, I think." He thought he could handle the wounds and doctor it for pain right now, though if it turned out otherwise he'd wake up Luna. He'd rather not have to do that though, with how busy she was with the vet and her father right now. "Were there any other animals around?" he asked. "Something that could have gotten him?"

She nodded. "Well, at least the bugger won't die. He's a shite fighter, though - just look at him!"

She pulled her hands away, glad to be rid of the thing. "I didn't see anything but this one, but I was just passing by. Never saw him before tonight."

Her eyes glanced between the counter, the boy, and the door, wondering how long until she could escape without suspicion of any sort. "I swear I didn't see anything. Do you need anything else? Or can you take him from here?"

Rolf glanced up at her. He was a bit surprised at her abrupt attitude. Most people weren't like that when bringing in an injured animal, though he supposed he'd had a few over the years. And some people just didn't want it to be there prolem anymore. This woman seemed like one of those.

"I can take it from here," he assured in a professional tone. "Thank you so much for taking the time to bring him in. I think we'll patch him up just fine."

She nodded. The crup was in okay hands, she supposed - not that she cared or any such thing. She pulled her eyes away from the animal and back to the boy.

"It's the least I could do," she muttered. No, in fact the least she could do was nothing and let the bugger die in her flat, but then the place would smell - that was it.

"Good luck," she said, turning away and heading for the door.

	"Thanks," he said. He cast a gentle sleep charm on the Crup, and walked her to the door. Never let it be said he wasn't naturally a gentleman. Though he worried over the animal, his condition was in hand so he could take a moment to do it. "You have a good night, and thank you for helping out." (Reply to this) (Parent)
