RP: Fundraiser Party
Who: Rolf and ANYONE who wants to come to the Scamander Fundraising Christmas Party of Awesome

What: The Scamander Fundraising Christmas Party of Awesome

Where: The Scamander Estate

When: Evening, Dec. 23rd

Rating: I’ll call it SFW but if needed I can adjust it

Note: Tag yourselves in, please; also, if you want to talk to Rolf, please, let me know! He's here to talk to any and every one! Also, there's a very tasty buffet type deal, and a very awesome dessert table by Melinda's Sweet Nothings, and all sorts of good things.

The Scamanders had been hosting the fundraiser on the Eve of Christmas Eve for many years. It was considered by most to be one of the Christmas parties, even though a donation was required for a plate. Not an exorbitant amount, but a goodly enough one that they could earn funds for the coming year to help with the rescue. The food was always exquisite, as was the wine and other alcohol; the music was considered divine, and these days weren’t just the classics of his grandparents’ and parents’ time, but with a bit more modern in order to entice the younger generation. There was dancing, of course, as any decent formal party offered.

So while it was black tie and a fundraiser, it was also laid back in a fashion that some parties were not. The estate was decorated tastefully and elegantly for Christmas, magical in a way that was only partly magical, and the service was discreet. The Scamanders, though not an original family, had had money for more than a few generations and knew how to deploy it. The fundraiser of course depended on more than the money per plate, but those enjoying themselves, the generosity of the season, and the alcohol all often combined for them to make out very well for a very good cause.

Rolf was the nominal host of the evening, though he still considered that his grandfather’s role. He and his grandmother still greeted most everyone, but Rolf had been in charge of a lot more of the proceedings than ever before. His parents were rarely around and indeed, he wasn’t certain that they were even attending tonight; he tried not to think on it. But his sisters were all in evidence except for Carpathia, who had her own obligations with her husband in France, or so was her note of apology.

So far, Rolf rather thought the evening was going swimmingly.

So far, Rolf thought things were going swimmingly. He'd put a lot of work into this lately, though the event planner had done much of it. He'd been in charge of keeping in touch there and organizing everything else. He was nervous, a bit, at how it was going to go, and Porpentina definitely had her pursed-lip doubts, but so far, so good.

Besides, even if it didn't go well, at least he was here with Rose, enjoying himself. He smiled down at his gorgeous girlfriend, arm snaking around her and pulling her closer. "You, my dear, look stunning tonight," he told her quite sincerely. "Thank you so much for accompanying me." He knew formal events weren't her thing, necessarily, but he really felt better for having her at his side and having his back.

And he'd made double sure that her parents would not be in attendance. And if they did happen to turn up, they'd be discreetly turned away.

Going to the Capper ball a while back had been slightly terrifying… well, maybe not terrifying as much as uncomfortable, but the Scamander Fundraiser just felt different. For one, she had switched the slim, lazy dress from the Capper ball in favour of something more sturdy tonight – she hadn’t even felt the need to wear boots with it, just to prove a point – and for another; this was the Scamanders. No, Rolf may not be on the best of terms with his parents and his grandparents did have quite a few opinions on just about everything, but it felt warmer, she felt safer and she knew without a doubt that her parents would never make it in here. Of course, Rolf was a major part of why she liked tonight a whole lot better. Not just wasn’t he there as a potential future mate for a Pureblood witch who most of all looked like she wished the floor would swallow her up, but there was no denying that all dressed up he looked nothing less than amazing.

Rose had heard about the Scamanders’ Christmas party since she had first met Rolf, but this year was the first time she was actually attending and she hadn’t even tried worming her way out of it, like she had the previous years. Looking up at him, she smiled back and moved closer to him as his arm went around her. She was going by his lead for how much public display of affection they could get away with tonight. After all, he was the host and she would never do anything to risk embarrassing him in any way.

“You think I’d let you swim with the sharks all alone?” she smirked up at him, her eyes shining with adoration of him. “Besides, I’ll take any chance that I can to see you dressed up like this.”

Rolf dropped a light kiss on her lips. His grandparents knew about her, of course; while Porpentina might be a bit skeptical, Newton seemed pleased. Spunk, he'd said approvingly, and left it at that. For his grandfather, that was high praise, and Rolf took it as such.

"Well, you never know, you might sneak a Muggle camera in and record it all and then sell the copies as I swim away from all the sharks," Rolf deadpanned, though his twinkling eyes gave his humor away immediately. He grinned after a second, unable to keep the serious face for long. He smoothed a hand down his dress robes not quite self consciously; he was ... not getting used to them, precisely, but finding a degree of comfort he'd never developed in his younger youth for such a degree of dress up. His grandfather might ahve a small point about practice with such things.

"Why thank you, my dear, though I have to say, I still crave the jeans and robes and a patch of wild land," he told her. "Though the upcoming Caribbean will do well enough for that for the time being."

For just a moment, Rose met Rolf’s deadpan look with one of her own, but his easy grin had her smiling brightly back up at him. She just couldn’t help it, and if that made her a sap, well, then she was sap, and she wasn’t going to do anything to change that. “If I wanted to make money by filming you, it wouldn’t include sharks,” she grinned up at him. “I’d just ask you to strip down and get in the water and people would pay good money to watch that, I’m sure.” At least she thought they should. She would! And she didn’t even have to pay for that experience.

Her smile softened as she listened to him. Slowly she nodded. “I do prefer you in jeans and dirt,” she admitted, and it was the truth, because above all, in her mind Rolf was always the most attractive when he felt comfortable and at ease. “But that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the treat of seeing you all shined up and spiffy.”

She knew she was probably breaking protocol for how to behave, but it just felt right to slip her hand down to thread her fingers through his. “Do you know when we’ll be leaving for the Caribbean?” she asked him. “It’s been a while since my last mission, so there should be a new one coming up any day now.”

Rolf laughed. He still didn't quite believe her -- or Dennis -- when they told him that he was wildly attractive. But he was getting used to it, and developing a bit more of a sense of how he appeared to others. It was slow, mostly because he had never received much in the way of compliments on his looks growing up. If anything, his mother had been critical. "Well, if we ever get dreadfully short on funds," not that that would happen unless he somehow got himself disinherited, "we can put that theory to the test."

"It is an experience. And I am getting mroe used to it. Grandfather is right in that regard." Though Rolf would never give up the casual look -- not that his grandfather had, really. When not in the public eye, the old man was casual, a remnant from his own animal-chasing life. "Besides, I get to see you all draped in pretty fabrics, and I can't say that's a hardship in the least." Though Rose was attractive in anything, personally.

Rolf squeezed her fingers gently. "I think we'll be leaving tomorrow morning? I wrangled for enough time to wrap everything up. Grandfather said he'd handle the rest and to enjoy the trip." The old man had gotten a bit more relaxed these last few years, or perhaps he just didn't take Porpentina as seriously as he had there for a while. "I do hope they don't call you away until at least Christmas has passed, though."
