She had just stepped out of Kiskadee's coffee shop. Willow, Parker and Buffy scattered in their own seperate ways. Buffy had been doing a lot of meetings that day. First, was with the new slayer recruit and that hadn't gone particularly well. Second, her meeting with Angel, which was interesting and had gained her access to the Book of 12 Stones. And her third? Well, Will and Parker had found her an amulet, Willow was implying it was hers anyways. Usually durring times like these things of mystical misfortune ended up in Buffy's hands. The power she felt just looking at it alone was enough to make her feel like she was going to puke, and on top of that when she touched it she could have sword her heart had stopped beating. Buffy wasn't going to put it on without some answers.
She strolled along the side walk, her hands in her pea-coat pockets. Her eyes gazed up to the sky for a moment. It was clear, blue, the sun was shining. A typical January day in Los Angeles. The air wasn't too copl, but it definately wasn't spring or summer. She took in a deep breath and suddenly, her little nifty cell phone started vibrating against the palm of her hand. She pulled the cell out of her pocket and eyes would dart down to read the number etched across the screen. It was the medical ward. Her heart skipped a beat as she flipped the phone open and answered.
"Hello, Buffy speaking."
"Hi, Miss Summers?"
"Yes, is there something wrong?"
"Well, no.. well, yes, but we're not sure."
Her eyebrows furrowed and she pulled the phone away from her ear to look at it. That was helpful. She placed the cell reciever end back to her ear and replied.
"Wh-What do you mean, you're not sure. What's going on?"
"We're calling in regards to patient Eliot Spencer."
Buffy's heart sunk. Hopefully nothing bad had happened.
"He's gone int cardiac arrest, ma'am. He's experienced some overall lung faliure. We've managed to stabalize him as much as possible in his condition. You might want to come and see him.. we're not sure.."
"Not sure of what?" She snapped angrily.
"Well, if it happens again, we're not sure he's going to make it. We think there is a possibility that his body might be rejecting his transformation.. I'm sorry."
Buffy hung up the phone without saying thank you or goodbye. She stuck her cell back in her pocket and suddenly burst out into a slow jog, which soon turned to an extremely fast sprint back to the firm.
Come on Eliot, hold on.
It was all she could keep saying in her head. Her thoughts that were once slightly excited about the news she had to bring him were suddenly no longer important. Doom and gloom had taken over. After a four minute run, she reached Wolfram and Hart. She opened the doors and slowed her pace to a brisk walk. She took the elevator down to the med ward and seconds later the doors slid open. She looked around to all of the doctors and nurses before breathing in deep and making her way inside.
