Thread Index Updated [Jan. 13th, 2010|09:52 pm]

fallen_mods
[Tags|, ]

I have just updated the Fallen Leaves Thread Index. Have a look and let me know if your thread summaries need improving.

I'd love to hear any suggestions on making the thread index more user-friendly. A lot of threads take place in March, for example, and it looks rather daunting. Currently all threads are listed chronologically, with a few thread arcs collapsed into single entries. Would it be helpful if it were sortable by character, or perhaps more graphical? Should there be additional information beyond thread title, characters involved and a brief summary? Would it be more usable as a table, sortable by character, for example? Alas, even if so, I lack the HTML skills for that level of coding, and the amount of work that would seem to entail leaves me trembling with trepidation.

The Plot Summary page remains sadly out of date, as it is an even bigger job to go in and bring it current than maintaining the thread index. Anyone who wishes to volunteer for the job will receive the undying love of the Moderators.

(Since posting comments to the OOC Comm is limited to the writers of Fallen Leaves, Readers with feedback about the Thread Index and Plot Summary, please leave your suggestions as replies to this entry in the Mods' journal.)

Fun Request for Help [Dec. 1st, 2009|01:45 pm]

Hey, fellow players!

My friend Kiki, who was the original Hayate in Scarlet Spiral, is working on a degree in literary studies, with a minor in folklore, and asked if she could make Fallen Leaves the subject of a paper. Her letter of introduction and a survey are below. This isn't compulsory, but of course the more responses she gets, the better.

She'd also like to have us participate in a group chat about Fallen Leaves, if anyone is interested. It would have to be in the evening, US Mountain Time (GMT-7). Is there any interest in that?

Thanks for your help. Remember to send your responses as emails to k.florez@aggiemail.usu.edu. All responses will be kept confidential, and only Kiki will see them, not the mods or your fellow players.

New Threads & Index Updated [Oct. 22nd, 2009|12:40 pm]

[Current Mood |accomplished]

Hey there! Nezu the Mod here. JB has stepped down from her position as Thread Index owner, because she has about a zillion other things (hint, see her post about her new books) going on in her life, and just writing her characters is more than enough work for her. That meant someone else needed to pick it up. Namely me. And I was, uh... Well, I don't have as good an excuse as JB, but anyway, I didn't get it done right away. But now it is updated!

Genma and Raidou are almost ready to leave the hospital, and have had a major development in their relationship: Raidou confessed to having kissed Genma when Genma was drunk. Genma's response? To kiss Raidou again, properly sober. (The Shadow Proves the Sunshine)

Rina visited Genma and is realizing her place in Genma's life has been eclipsed by Raidou. (Almost Not Alone)

Kakashi and Ginta are also still in the hospital. Ginta's in traction half the time, Kakashi's just woken up from a coma, and Ryouma is camped out at Kakashi's bedside. (Welcome to My Morning)

Hiro is continuing to develop his friendship with Ginta, giving Ginta something to do other than dwell on the situation with Kakashi and Ryouma and mope about being cooped up in bed. (The Little Things Give You Away)

Asuma and Tsume are still dealing with pirates and mistaken assumptions about each other's skill levels. (Kunoichi and Bastards)

Kuromaru is paying the price for Tsume's jutsu. (Coming and Going)

Ryuichi and Katsuko are waiting for the other shoe to drop, and working out their differences in fairly typical ANBU fashion: with a spar that stops just short of killing blows. (All You Can Take)

Haruichi has been taking missions but will be back soon to take Genma to task for having gotten himself injured again.

Yanagi is undercover somewhere, maybe even singing a song about Genma.

Ibiki is undoubtedly in the sub-basement.

Natsumi is working on rehabilitating her injured hand without letting her dad know she got hurt in the first place. Also possibly pining for Asuma.

Kaito is taking missions and still trying to master the concept of "charm" that Genma is so het up about.

---

There are also a couple of backstory threads you may have missed:

The Ballad of Shiranui Genma: Four years in the past, Yanagi and Genma's friendship got off to a rocky start. Yanagi had promised Genma a song when they parted. His method of delivery--a two AM serenade outside ANBU HQ--left a little to be desired, but Genma invited him in anyway. Yanagi was having a little trouble remembering just exactly who he was, but Genma turned out to have a hidden talent for reminding him.

Lost and Found : More recently, in early March Genma visited the infirmary to restock his medkit, and found Haruichi nearly catatonic in the aftermath of his unexpected meeting with Hiro. Genma did what any good friend would: he patched Haruichi up, took him upstairs, and poured him a stiff drink.

Feedback is always appreciated, and I promise to get to answering guestbook commentary soon.

Posting Format Change [Jun. 11th, 2008|10:58 pm]

fallen_mods
[Tags|]

As many of you know and complain about, IJ's method of collapsing threads once they pass 50 posts is as irritating as Ryouma and Ginta holding an Most Obnoxious Contest. We've tried a couple different methods of working around this, and the best one we've come up with is the one we're implementing now.

Beginning 11 June 2008, all new threads should have new comments posted not in response to the previous comment, but in a reply to the original thread post. This will stack all the comments in one level and prevent threads from collapsing. Depending on the number of comments in a thread, it may extend to two or more pages (as in the Guest Book), but clicking on "Page 2" will still involve a lot less annoying clicking than jumping in and out of collapsing threads.

You can see an example of the old style of commenting here, and one of the new style of commenting here. Please be consistent in posting new threads and in using the new style. However, threads that are currently in progress in the old style should complete in that style.

We thank you for your efforts in making our community a better place to read.

Shiru, Yuzuya's player, is still in the middle of having moved and hasn't got internet access yet. She doesn't know when she will be available.

Thank you to everyone who participated in tonight's discussion of Fallen Leaves's goals and the Writing Standards and Conventions document. And apologies to those who weren't able to make it. It's always difficult having discussions about process and quality, and I really appreciate the effort everyone put in to both the discussion and to Fallen Leaves in general.

If you continue to have thoughts about the issues we discussed, please do not hesitate to talk them over with the mods by sending email to fallenmods@gmail.com. We want to hear how we can improve Fallen Leaves.

Again thank you to all who helped tonight. Now let's go write some good stories.

Important Announcement [Apr. 15th, 2008|02:02 am]

People of the Leaf,

Wednesday at 5pm West Coast Time (6pm Mountain, 8pm Eastern, 1am UK time) there will be a leaves chat set up. It is absolutely vital that you attend this. If you cannot make this chat for whatever reason, expect yourself to be ninja'd.

In preparation for this, we ask that all Leaves writers read the following writing standards and conventions document, which has been available since the beginning of Leaves.

If you could make sure that those not already aware of this--Suz, Fade, and Bel in particular--are notified of this meeting, we would appreciate it.

This announcement is to make official something that has been de facto for a while. Kilerkki is officially joining the Mod Squad.

Your Moderators are now (in no particular order):
Nezuko
Dark
Winter
Kilerkki

and Rini continues as official Administrator and additional keeper of the Thread Index.

Contacting the Mods
To help us keep ourselves organized, if you have a modly issue or request, whether it's to look over an idea you have, problems you think need modly attention, or whatever, please send email to fallenmods@gmail.com.

That way we all will see it, even if we're not all online at the same time. Email should be your first avenue for requesting modly attention. We prefer to use IM for modly business only as as last resort. This will ensure that your issue receives several mods' consideration, and that no one mod is overburdened with player concerns or queries.

Thanks!

Ninja Day-Planner! [Apr. 13th, 2008|10:22 pm]

fallen_mods

Extra special thanks to Kilerkki for taking Nezuko's ramblings and turning them into this awesome set of instructions!

Recently, scheduling issues have convinced us that we need a more comprehensive planning system than that offered by the Readers' Guide and Thread Index. The Thread Index does a wonderful job of organizing threads in rough chronological order and in orienting readers, but we've had several instances where players have pre-written threads and then had difficulty figuring out where in the timeline they should fit. Thus, for those who are interested, we're offering--

The NINJA DAY-PLANNER!

Actually, it's a monthly calendar--or rather, a series of them. Through Google Calendars, we've created a number of linked calendars that not only slot the various threads into their proper places in the timeline, but also offer you the opportunity to point out where your character is at any given time and whether she is or is not available for RP. Thus, if Ki were interested in writing a Ryouma & Ginta thread with Nezuko, they could both check the calendar and determine that Ginta is not on a mission while Ryouma is in the hospital, and that he is, in fact, free to visit. (Okay, that's kind of a stupid example, but you get the point.)

Now that you've seen how awesome this resource could be, you may be asking, how do you use it?

Wonder no more! The program is remarkably intuitive, but for those whose intuition isn't quite honed to ninja levels, instructions are here! )
