Characters: Emma Swan and the huntsman
When: After this
Location: Emma's room
Warnings/Rating: None as of right now.
Summary: Emma needs to talk to the huntsman so she has him coming to her room.
Status: closed, ongoing

Emma still wasn’t even sure what made her send the message to the huntsman for them to talk. Yes, she had some feelings for him, but was she really ready to talk about them sharing a room together? With everything going on, she wasn’t sure if it was a wise idea to get feelings for anyone. The one thing she never allowed was her walls to come down, but Mary Margaret had called her out on that even pointing out how people could see that she had some feelings for Graham. Why was Emma so nervous? Maybe because she never really took this step and avoided this step. The other reason could be because she didn’t think that she deserved a guy like the huntsman. As many times as he told her that she was a good person it was still a thought how she really wasn’t. Only reason she was doing this was because she realized that he could be sent back to a world he was dead in at any moment. Then the thought was could she take losing him again? Dealing with Regina and fighting with her was so much easier than dealing with emotions or feelings. Fighting was something she did all her life to survive, but she learned from a young age that feelings were a bad thing to have. Feelings would end up with a person getting hurt and she couldn’t take anymore hurt. If Regina found out how Emma felt about the huntsman, she would probably have fun with it like she enjoyed hurting Emma by taking Henry away from her by banning them from being around one another. She couldn’t ban them from being around one another, but she could hurt the huntsman if she got her powers back. Could the train really bring her powers back? No, that was crazy causing her to push it aside for now.

Running her fingers through her blonde hair, Emma shut her eyes as she tried to think whether she really wanted to talk about it now. Emma found herself avoiding most of the people from fairy tale world because of all the things she was dealing with. Henry was the only person she didn’t mind seeing every day since they were over the whole awkward stage. Charming and Snow were the main people she kept avoiding because of her fear they might reject her but she also didn’t know how to get to know them or how they might dislike the type of person Emma turned into. All her fears were causing her to avoid them since she was still trying to adjust to knowing who her parents were. Now that she was thinking about it, she figured it would be interesting to have them find out that Emma had an interest in the huntsman who was someone that her parents knew. Shaking her head, she took a deep breath as she told herself that she could do this. Emma could deal with an evil queen, a dragon, living on the streets, and so many other things that she hoped she could deal with this. Maybe he would get sidetracked or something and not show up. That could happen, right? Then she wouldn’t have to do this and maybe she wouldn’t be such a nervous wreck over doing something she had never done before or facing up to things that she had never done before. What if he found himself bored with her once they shared a room together? Her thoughts were going to be the death of her along with her fears that now she was wishing the huntsman would hurry up so she could get this over with, probably get rejected, and bounce back to her old self. Leaning back on her bed, she shut her eyes as she waited for the huntsman to show up.

Emma kept going back and forth in her head about whether this was a wise idea or not. She had feelings for him, but she knew that Regina would enjoy hurting Emma if she found the weak spots. Was it fair to put the huntsman at risk? No, but that also wasn’t her call since she knew he could take care of himself. He didn’t need her to protect him just like she didn’t need him to protect her. That was one of the things she liked about him was he let her fight her own battles even if the battle was with Regina. All she cared about was that she had people making sure Henry was safe.

On the other hand, she knew they could never be anything in Storybrooke so she had to get over all her fears if she wanted to see if they could have been something. With the way the train pulled people off did she really want to miss out on this? Her thoughts were cut off at the knocking at the door, moving off the bed to go answer it. At the sight of him a small smile slipped over her lips before moving to the side. “Hey, come in. Thanks by the way for coming down,” she said as she allowed him and Wolf to enter into her room. “How have you two been doing?” Emma hadn’t been around them as much as she kept herself busy with Henry, Regina, and her fears that she saw him a little bit but not as much as she probably should.

Though she respected the fact he was giving her space to figure things out since he knew she had her issues with people in general.

He couldn't help but smile at her when she opened the door, and Wolf actually started wagging her tail. He was very fond of her, and it had been quite some time since it had felt right to come down here. She had a lot of things to work out, and she wasn't the kind who liked to unload on other people. So he'd given her space, figuring that she'd call him when she needed him.

"We're doing well. Went out hunting with that girl...Thalia - she's a Hunter of Artemis. It was good to get out."

Emma knew she still had a lot to work out and she was even trying to figure out if this was a wise thing, but she didn’t want to lose him without trying. He was giving her space and he understood that she had issues causing him not to push so she had to give him something. If she kept him at a distance then he might find someone else that would give him a shot. Dealing with the huntsman was a little easier than her parents who she was still a bit unsure how to go about things with them in fear of that rejection that she knew all too well.

“That must have been nice for you both to get out for some hunting,” she told him with a nod. Closing the door, she waited a moment before moving over to him and kissing him softly. Emma had to know if what she felt was real as her lips pressed against his and even after the amount of time that she had been here she found herself still feeling something for him. That said a lot since she usually moved on rather quickly, pulling away from him slowly. “Are you adjusting to being stuck on a train?” She knew he was having the same problem as her. “I hope you know the talk was nothing bad or at least I don’t think it was that bad.” Unless he rejected her then it could be bad.

He was surprised when she kissed him, but in no way turned it down. Instead, he pulled her closer, and deepened it a bit, showing to her in no uncertain terms that he did feel the same way that he always had about her. But then she pulled back with no comment, and he felt a little...dizzy for a moment as he tried to bring his thoughts to where hers were.

"I...I suppose, well enough. Can't say I like it, but it's also better than being dead." He smiled a tiny smile, unable to find that terribly amusing himself.

"Um, I hope so. But what is it about, Emma?"

He wished she'd just spit it around. Waiting around to hear what she had to say was making him nervous.

Her hands moved over his chest, resting on his shoulder for the brief moment as he pulled her closer to him. Emma felt something she never really felt before with anyone. Relationships were never something she got herself involved in because that would involve emotions something she wasn’t good at showing. One night stands were usually more for her, but it was weird for her to feel something for someone. Did she want a relationship with the huntsman? Emma really had no idea since she wasn’t ready for that step, but she did want to work towards one. God that was a scary thought how she wanted to work to one. Regina was right she never loved anyone or had anyone love her. Emma would never let that bitch catch on she was right or how that comment hurt a bit, but it did. Emma loved Henry but that was about it and that took a while for her even to admit that.

“I would rather you stuck on a train than being dead,” she said softly. Emma tried not to think about how he was dead, but at least she knew it wasn’t her fault. All she did was blame herself cause she was allowing someone to get close and she was cursed. That had to be the reason everything went wrong in her life.

Emma knew she was avoiding it slightly because she was scared of how he might reject her. “Umm, I was thinking,” she said softly, biting her bottom lip as she started to shift her weight to the back of her feet, “did you want to try the whole sharing a room thing?” Emma was waiting for him to laugh or turn it down or anything that would hurt her since that was all people ever did. “I mean I understand if you don’t want to cause you’ll be putting yourself in the way of harm while Regina is around.” Better to let him know now how he could end up hurt so he could back out if he wanted.

His eyes went wide as she spoke, and his face broke into a warm smile.

"Really?" He'd suggested this himself months ago, but had quickly backed off when it became absolutely clear that she wasn't okay with it. But now...she was bringing it up herself. And that...was wonderful. "Yes - I mean, of course I do. You know how I feel about you, Emma. I'd love to."

He smiled and kissed her again, this time letting a bit of the desperation and desire he felt creep into his kiss.

"And I'm not afraid of Regina."

Okay, maybe that wasn't exactly true. But he was trying to get to the point he wasn't afraid of her, and he certainly wasn't afraid of her killing him.

Emma knew he had suggested it a few months ago, but she wasn’t ready to make that step and part of her still wasn’t sure if she was ready. The whole thing scared her because that meant she was allowing someone to get close to her. Also what if he found himself bored with her? All she knew was that she wanted to get a room with one open on the other side so she could see if Henry wanted to move closer. Though one step at a time was the best way to go right now. “Yeah, I think,” she said the last part more to herself since she was still trying to figure it out. “Yes, but the feelings could have changed since people don’t always feel the same thing for that long,” or at least that was what she learned over the years.

“But I figured we could give it a shot if you were wanting and see how it goes. I do want to be near Henry, especially after my last run in with Regina,” she told him. The comment from Regina made Emma feel sick and had her on edge even if she wasn’t showing it around that woman. For now, Emma hoped the promise that she made to Regina would keep the woman at bay cause she might fear how Emma would kill her. When he kissed her, she tensed up a bit at the feelings behind the kiss before relaxing slightly as she kissed him back deeply. Pulling back once again slowly after a moment.

“You sure? I get that she was a scary person back in your world so I understand if you are considering you know I’m one of the people she hates more than anything.” Emma pointed out since she could understand but she wasn’t going to be afraid. No that was what Regina wanted and that wasn’t going to happen.

"Real feelings don't go away like that, Emma. They last. And my feelings last. You think I'm just going to forget about you like that? Hardly. Yes, I do want to try this. If it doesn't work...well, at least we tried, right? And that's better than nothing."

He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"Okay, she terrifies me. There's the truth. But it scares me more to think of you and Henry alone here. I can take the fear if I know you're safe."

Emma shook her head since she didn’t believe that, but she didn’t say anything on the whole real feelings comment since she didn’t feel like going down that path. In her mind feelings always changed and why so many people ended up hurt in the end when they played the emotional game or the feeling game. “You wouldn’t be the first that forgot about me like that,” she admitted to him though she wasn’t just talking about in the relationship aspect of things. “Fine then, we can try and see how it goes but all I ask is don’t push or rush anything because you know I need to work at my pace.” The huntsman already knew that but she felt better about saying that aloud so in case he forgot.

She watched him before moving over to him, resting her hand on his arm.

“Hey, I won’t let her hurt you, okay?” She told him though she knew Regina might go after him to try and hurt Emma again. “You should know I can take care of myself, but Henry is the only one people need to worry about. I don’t need people to worry about me.” Emma wasn’t used to people worrying about her and she didn’t know if she really wanted that. It was nice to hear how he cared, but it was weird for her. “I have some fears, but Regina isn’t anywhere on that list. Only thing she has me worried about is the comment she made to me about Henry,” she admitted to him. Emma never admitted being scared of anything expect to Mary Margaret so it was weird for her to say that to the huntsman. “But if you can deal with her then we can get a room together or find one that works then I can see if Henry wants to move in the room next to us.” Emma hoped that Henry would because she would feel safer to know he was around.

"I can deal with her," he said. "I dealt with her a long time, Emma. Not that I liked it, not that it wasn't a horrible thing for me, but I dealt with her. And I can do it again. Especially if it's for Henry - or for you."

He nodded again, looking at the room around him.

"So, that's it, then? We'll find a room together? You're okay with that? You're sure?"

“I know you dealt with her for a long time, but she also ends up killing you and I’m sure it isn’t easy to be around her when you remember what she did to you in fairy tale world along with twenty eight years in Storybrooke,” she told him. Emma knew she had a bad past, but to be stuck with her had to be a nightmare. “Henry’s the main issue because she wants him and she told me I better check on him while I still can last time we ran into one another. I can’t lose him again.” That was her biggest fear was how she might lose him and she couldn’t do that. “Maybe wolf can watch out for Henry as well,” it was an idea but she figured that wolf would only watch out for the huntsman. Emma knew the huntsman didn’t control him, but she was thinking aloud.

Him asking if she was okay with that caused her to think it over in her head. Could she really do this? “I think I’m okay with it,” she admitted. She could do this since she cared about the huntsman and wanted to give this a try. “Yeah, we can find a room together and try the whole living together thing,” she said with a small smile. “Think wolf is going to mind that you’ll be sharing a room with me?” She asked with a teasing smile.

He laughed.

"You'll have to ask her about that. I'm sure she'll protect Henry, though. I mean, he's a child - and nobody, no matter what species, really likes to see children in danger. It's just...well, wrong."

He nodded.

"Let's do, then. I like it. And if it doesn't work out...well, at least we tried, right?"

She smirked since she wasn’t all that surprised at his comment about how she would have to ask Wolf. “You would think that but not everyone cares about whether a child is in danger or not,” she pointed out. “Then again right now she’s being careful cause she knows I’ve been sleeping often times in his room on the couch, but I can handle whatever she tosses at me as long as he’s safe.” Henry was really the only person she was worried about more than anything. Regina made it clear that she wanted Henry and the other ones could take care of themselves or had someone to watch out for them. Henry had her and Emma would do anything to protect him. “But if I ever need someone to watch him, I’ll ask Wolf. Would you do that for me girl?” She asked, moving over to the wolf to pet her with a small smile.

“I was a little worried you might have changed your mind or didn’t want to try the whole living with me,” she admitted to him. “Yeah, and I mean I guess that’s what matters is that we at least tried.” Moving closer to him she kissed him softly once again before pulling away to look at him. For a brief moment she thought about how weird it was to know that the man she was interested in had saved her mother’s life or how both her parents knew him in a sense.

“Oh guess what is on the train now?”

Wolf allowed herself to be petted, and wagged her tail a bit as if to say that she'd watch after Henry, and he smiled at her.

"Guess she's good with that," he smiled. "I'm not going to change my mind about that. That's a promise," he answered.

"What's on the train?"

Emma smiled down at Wolf as she started wagging her tail, glancing over at the huntsman when he spoke. “That’s good since I feel better knowing more people and cute animals like Wolf here are willing to keep him safe. Since I do know who she’s working with now or more who she’s using as her lackey,” she told him while still petting Wolf for the moment.

“I’m hoping you keep that promise,” she told him softly. Emma wasn’t used to people keeping their promises when it came to her that it would be nice to have one that stayed. Then again she found herself trusting the huntsman more than she trusted anyone and that was saying a lot.

“The fairy tale book showed up,” she said with a smirk. The whole thing was weird to think that book had the stories of him, her mother, her father, and everyone else from her world that were from the fairy tale world.

He laughed briefly at her calling Wolf a 'cute' animal.

"I don't know how she'd take to that," he said. "She's not cute unless she wants to be. You should see her when she decides to take out a deer. And of course I'll keep my promise. I don't make promises in the first place if I don't intend to keep them."

He raised an eyebrow. "Weeell, then. The illustrated expose of my fairy tale life. Perfect."

“Yeah, but I haven’t really seen the whole taking out a deer so she’s cute and beautiful,” she said with a roll of her eyes. “I’m sure she just loves the attention that she doesn’t care what she’s called as long as she gets noticed and petted,” she teased, wrinkling her nose at him. “Like I said I’ve heard it all before so I’ll just see if you keep the promise,” Emma trusted him though even if she never really said it. Showing emotions wasn’t for her, which was weird when it seemed like him, Charming, Snow, and the rest of the fairy tale characters were better at it. Only emotion she was great at showing was anger. Her whole trusting people wasn’t something that came easy, but she was going to try.

A laugh left her lips, shaking her head. “You should feel special. How many people on the train can say they have a section about them in a book?” She asked with a teasing smile. “You’re famous but I left the book in Henry's room." It was his book and only time she took it was to look through it.

"You should come hunting with me sometime. It's...an experience to see her hunt. She's incredible."

He scratched Wolf's ears before smiling back at Emma.

"It's a bit strange for me, actually, to see myself in a book like that. Not something I'm used to. Don't really like that kind of attention. But I'm glad I could do what I could to help Snow."

"I don't really do the whole hunting thing. I track people down, but the whole hunting thing isn't really something I've done. Maybe sometime though I'll go," she told him with a nod. Emma was good at certain things, but hunting was not one of them and darts was another. She had tried the whole game since Graham had been good only to end up not even getting the darts in the wall or anything but the floor. Stupid game!

Emma smirked since she knew what he meant. Then again she was only in a small part and she burned those pages since she thought Henry was really reaching. Emma didn't want to be a in a book or believe that she was in a book.

"Oh come on just think of all the girls you could sleep with. Rockstars are known for always getting the ladies so try a whole I'm a fairy tale character to see how that works," she teased, laughing softly at the idea. Joking was her way of avoiding the serious emotional stuff and after the whole talk about getting a room together she needed to get far away from the emotional crap. "I think everyone is going to find it weird to know they are in the book, but it was nice to see the book still pisses Regina off like no tomorrow." Then again the book was what caused Henry to come on the search for Emma when she turned 28.

"Well, Henry came to find you because of the book," he said. "And it kind of does set out the case for her being the enemy of everyone in our world."

He shrugged and grinned at her.

"Oh, I don't need that, for sure. I'm already having to fight women off with a stick. Why do you think I really am grateful that Wolf is around?"

He grinned, finding the idea of him as a rockstar about as absurd as things ever could be.

“Yeah, and Mary Margaret was the one who gave him the book so even in Storybrooke Snow knows how to piss Regina off. Then add me to the picture,” she said with a small smirk. The whole thing made her wonder now what would have happened if Henry never showed up. August was the one who should have brought her to Storybrooke, but he never did and wasn’t planning on it. “She did that all on her own. Something was off with her from the moment I met her.” But she had taken it as her being untrusting since she didn’t think many were good people.

Emma started to laugh, shaking her head at his comment about fighting women off with a stick. “Is that so? Yeah, Wolf is fighting them off because she wants you for herself,” she pointed out with an amused smirk. “God just think of how much attention you could get with the wolf, the whole fairy tale character, and that you were sheriff? You’ll be locking yourself in a room to hide from all the women.” She sighed after a moment because she knew she had to go back to the emotional weird stuff for a moment. “So when do you want to find a room that works for us? Tomorrow?”

Her room was empty, but she wanted one with an empty on the other side in case Henry decided that he wanted to move in next to her and the huntsman.

Emma felt weird about being serious or even thinking about taking this step because it wasn’t her. Then again the thought of how the train could send him away tomorrow was why she was trying to take a big step. “Yeah, that works for me. How about tomorrow afternoon?” She asked with a small nod. Emma was up early sometimes, but she had a feeling that when she woke up that she would be freaking out a bit at the thought of sharing a room with someone she cared about. Tomorrow morning was going to be hell, but then again she might surprise herself and be fine. One could hope.

Emma was trying to be more open with the huntsman, but she was having a hard time. Then again this was the biggest step she had ever taken with anyone so that had to count for something even if she had a hard time with being on the emotional side of things. "Okay, then I'll see you tomorrow and we can figure out a room for us to share?"
