Dolores needed a new descriptor other than strange, or weird. The haunted manor had given her that impression, a place that defied reality as she knew it through the supernatural natural, the haunting occurrences that happened overnight. This town was also far from what she was used to, but strange in a very different way than before. But the small town feeling was familiar enough, just the modern architecture, the fashion… the things that Ash told her were cars. The air smelled differently than home in a way she couldn’t describe, but she was glad for the freshness of it in comparison to being stuck inside for an entire week.
She’d been happy to stretch her legs, get out and see this world, meet the friendly people around. But it was a lot to take in, and after bidding Ash farewell for the evening, she return to her room to unpack the few items she bought. Apparently the $500 which seemed like an obscene amount of money wasn’t going to take her as far as she thought, but she placed some fresh fruit on the table with a small sense of satisfaction.
Dolores was busy pulling her hair back in front of the bathroom mirror when she heard a knock at the door, remembering her invitation to Markus to stop by later. She’d expected Connor to be present when he arrived, since the two were friends, but she didn’t actually know where he’d gone off to. Or maybe it was Connor now, choosing to knock instead of just entering with his key.
“One moment!” she called out, quickly finishing with the braid and securing it with a tie. It was a different look for her, but she’d seen it on a woman in town and wanted to give it a try. Wanted to blend in more with the locals, so maybe she wouldn’t feel so quite out of place here.
Crossing the room, she opened the door with a pleasant smile to greet her visitor. “Are you Markus? Please, come in.”
