	Ernie felt like he had been punched in the gut for the second time that day. She had been seeing blokes and didn't bother to tell him? Ernie fought the annoyance he felt building at that. Ernie disentangled himself from Hannah, getting up to go look out the window. Granted, he had been called a "stick in the mud" by more than one individual, but...he really just couldn't wrap his mind around Hannah's news. "Why?" He watched a cat outside jump a fence and run away. Maybe the animal sensed the bad tidings flowing through the world? Ernie closed his eyes at the nonsensical thought.

Hannah almost didn't hear the question. She curled her arms around herself, wishing she hadn't told him. She had to tell someone and she certainly wasn't about to tell Zach. He'd definitely have more of a negative reaction.

"I...I don't know," she said, closing her eyes. "It...it just happened. New Year's Day with Susan and Richard and the same with Richard and Lavender. I know...I know it's not what I want now. I don't even know what I want. I just know that with people dying - people that I know, I don't want to be alone. I don't want to...regret anything."

	Ernie felt awful for making Hannah hold on to herself like that. He didn't mean to judge; he really didn't. It just went against everything he believed about those things. "Realizing that I'd have to share him and that I wouldn't be able to trust that he'd still want me," she said with a sigh, brushing her hair back from her face. "And not being able to know if Richard would change his mind and chose one of the others...that was enough to make me change my mind."

	Ernie did know that; it was probably what he loved most about her. Well, that and she brought out a side of him that he didn't know existed. Still, hearing that she'd even consider the idea that she might not be enough for someone... "You deserve better than that," he said bluntly. Ernie felt even more lousy for his judging, even if it was silent, when she uttered those words. He sighed and hesitated only a second longer before joining her on the bed again. "Hannah," he said seriously, "You know you'll meet someone brilliant. I promise." He rested a hand at her elbow, smiling in teasing. "And we do still have a deal on the off chance all the blokes are stupid enough to pass you up."
