Meeting at the library was no inconvenience, for Lex had already prepared to spend a great deal of her afternoon in the midst of study. Taking a small portion of her time to help someone in need was easily arranged then, and by the time anyone found her and the table she had commandeered, Lex was fully engaged with papers and papers of mathematics. Books to her left, a stack of frightening equations to her right, magic dissected into debilitating masses of numbers and charts and graphs--this was only preparation. A day would arrive soon where, finally, she would be officially qualified to advance as an Arithmetician and meet one of many goals still ahead of her. For now, there was preparation and reading and, hopefully, a brief moment for company. The library building was large and imposing, an architectural feat from centuries before, built with Church coin and with the labor of true artisans of the time. The University housed a wealth of knowledge and offered it, as with many of its services, to those citizens who were not necessarily privileged to be part of a guild. Whether or not one viewed it as a show of generosity or a display of the Church's wealth and power was entirely up to the beholder. |
