Emily occasionally stayed the night at Cormac's but it was happenstance she was home. Her father left earlier that afternoon for some meeting and he had yet to return. Working late wasn't really her father's M.O. though and normally he was back in time for dinner. Her mother had gone out after dinner. Not to seek out Emily's father, but to visit a friend and enjoy some drinks. Supposedly, Lord Miliona would join them later, and so it left Emily alone in the large house, save for a few servants still cleaning in the kitchens and their steward who kept watch over the house. Emily sat in the drawing room with a book, not reading it, but mentally reviewed the spells she knew. She could perform her spells with such fluidity because she practiced them till they came out of her effortlessly. The couch she sat one was meant for her to side across it, which she did, propping herself up on the arm rest. The pale blue of her dress seemed almost out of place in contrast to the rich reds of the furniture in the room, and with her hair left down in natural waves, she seemed almost angelic. Her parents always favored the bold colors, and she did too, but for the sake of appearances, she kept with the softer pastels and colors that didn't make her stand out. "Lady Miliona," the family's steward said walking into the room. Emily glanced up from the book and closed it gently, "Yes?" "There is a gentleman here on behalf of the Emillion Knights of the Peace, he asked for the lady of the house, but I know your mother is not here," the steward stated. A member of the Knights of Peace? Emily's face showed a moment of surprise, which was allowed, given the late hour and who it was. "What would you have me do, miss?" the steward questioned and Emily rose from her chair, "I will see him. My mother should be home soon, and when she arrives, I'm sure she can take over from there. If a Knight of Peace is here, something must have happened." And Emily hoped that it did not mean something she did, though nothing came to mind. Perhaps they clued in on her role with her false death now six years ago? No, she'd covered her tracks too well. Any threads they chased would come to frayed ends and no where else to go. She had planned it entirely too carefully to allow for that. Her return may have raised some questions, but they were put upon her parents, not her. Emily came from the drawing room to the main foyer of her family's home. There stood the man in question and the steward who preceded her announced her at her entrance, "Lady Emily Miliona." She came forward, her shoes making a soft clicking sound over the marble floor that echoed. She did not dismiss the steward yet, so he remained a solitary figure near the door she'd just walked through. "Welcome," she said in her usual sweet, gentle tone, "I apologize that my mother is not here, but she is out with friends. I expect my father is with her. What brings a member of our noble Knights of the Peace here at such an hour?" Emily gave a delicate curtsy. |
