Emily let out a small gasp, and another one, covering her mouth as if she were going to vomit. "Those poor children," she whispered, "they're just, they're just children." Tears welled at the corners of her eyes and she looked like she was somewhere between throwing up or bursting into tears. Obviously overwhelmed with emotions, Emily had difficulty forming sentences, kind of half-starting words before she stopped to take a breath and regain her composure. She finally suceeded though.
"It should not be kept silent," she said with a shake of her head, "what my father did . . . it's unforgivable. I trust that—that the children are going to be moved somewhere safe. I will, no, I shouldn't. The last thing they need is the daughter of the monster who did this to them showing up." She shook her head again and closed her eyes for a moment breathing in and then exhaling slowly.
With a nod, she said, "Thank you for telling me. When my mother returns, I will inform her. I take it there will be a further investigation? We will do everything possible to assist. I'm sure my mother would not protest to this." She brought her handkerchief out and wiped at her eyes before rising.
"If you could excuse me," she whispered and gave a polite curtsy, "I need to lie down."
