Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Have sympathy for the werewolf, somebody like you and me...
Who: Wes and Caiden (possibly Gemma?)// CLOSED
What: Wes' time of the month and Caiden keeping him company
Where: The Shrieking Shack
When: Sunday 8th Feb/ night
Rating/Warnings: PG13?
Status: in progress

Wes stopped before the Whomping Willow and glanced around, making the coast was clear. Well sort of, he couldn't really be bothered to check properly. If someone saw him they probably wouldn't get past the tree anyway. He slipped his wand from his pocket and pointed it at a large stone on the ground as the tree swayed threateningly.
"Wingadium leviosa," He muttered, with a nice swish-and-flick of his wand, levitating the stone up before sending it to thwack against the knot in the tree that momentarily paralysed the Willow. He crept forwards and slipped down into the tunnel, having to duck awkwardly because he was really too tall for this shit!

He hadn't waited for Caiden. He never waited for Caiden, because he never wanted to put that kind of pressure on him. To make it seem like he expected him to come along every month. It was a big commitment and all that and he didn't want Caiden to feel obliged. Wes probably wouldn't admit it, but if Caiden stopped coming he'd be heartbroken. He'd gotten to the point where it felt like Caiden kept him sane during these three nights. He wasn't sure what he would do without him. But still, proud as he was, Wes would always act like he could do it alone.
He pushed open the hatch and stepped into the shack, still as dirty and creaky as when he'd left it last, though his and Caiden's foot (and paw) prints covered in a new layer of dust. He made his way through to the livingroom and sighed before taking off his shirt, throwing it onto the broken sofa that sat sadly in the middle of the dark room, looking quite sorry for itself. Wes paused to run his fingers over some of the stuffing poking out of the side, the material ripped by what was quite clearly a set of powerful, sharp, teeth.

Caiden hated this bit most of all. Crossing the grounds at night on his own. He didn't dare light up his wand in case someone saw it from the school above and reported them-

The Whomping Willow had just shook itself back into life when he got there. "Oh, I'm sorry," he apologised to the tree, levitating the stone Wes had used to press against the knot, waiting for the branches to stop before crawlng under the branches and down the hole that would take him to the shack.

He sighed, emerging into the lower floor of the shack, the dusk immediately tickling his nose. Flicking his wand, a small gust of air began to blow from the end, which he used (rather fruitlessly, it turned out) to blow some of the dust from the floorboards. He'd have to come down here before the next full moon and tidy it up properly-

Caiden persevered cleaning on his way up to the lounge, dusting things off, fixing a few odd bits of furniature that Wes had broken the last time. And then he knocked on the lounge door, knowing there was a chance Wes was naked or not in the mood to see him at the moment.

"Wes? Hey. It's me-are you ok?"

Wes heard Caiden enter the house, even from several rooms away. The fullmoon was almost upon him and his senses were on fire. He could smell Caiden's familiar scent, hear the rush of air and sense the tinkle of magic as the other boy attempted to clean the mess that had been here since what appeared to be the dawn of time. He dropped his jeans and folded them roughly, tossing them on top of his t-shirt. He chewed on his thumbnail as he heard Caiden approach the door.

"I'm still here Cai," He called back, standing awkwardly in the middle of the room in his boxers, goosepimples rising on his skin. The beginning of February was no time to be standing around in creaky old sheds in barely any clothes! Still, Wes only had the choice of taking them off or having them destroyed when he changed, and he quite liked those jeans...
"Hey," He murmured, glancing at Caiden as the door opened, "Didn't know if you were gonna come this time. You have class tomorrow morning and stuff... I thought you might wanna get a good night's sle-Argh!" His words were cut off as a sharp pain passed through him. He caught himself, wrapping his arms around his skinny frame and clenched his teeth, shaking slightly. The tiny holes in the boarded up window let through a sliver of moonlight, indicating that Wes wasn't going to be Wes much longer. It was rising fast. Apparently there wouldn't be much conversation tonight between him and Caiden. Well not human Wes at least. Winter was always harder for Wes, longer nights, earlier sunsets. At certain moons it felt like he was the wolf more than he was himself...

"G-go away!" He said sharply, glancing up, his pupils narrowed to pin pricks. He didn't mean for his words to be so harsh but he didn't was Caiden to see. Not this. No one should ever see this.

Caiden pushed the door open. It was cold and drafty in this room, more so than the other rooms and he sighed, conjuring up a little ball of heat from the end of his wand like a teardrop and letting it hover above them to warm the room a little.

"You know I'll always come," he said a little distractedly as he looked around the floor for anything wolfy Wes might hurt his paws on. His head snapped up at the yelp of pain from the other boy, backing out of the room quickly. "Of course. Ok. I'll be outside if you need me," he said quickly, shutting the door to the lounge and sitting out in the hallway, clamping his hands over his ears and screwing his eyes shut. He'd managed to listen to Wes's change once and it had almost ripped him apart inside. Now he did his best to avoid it.

He felt selfish, curled up outside the lounge whimpering himself whilst his friend was going through so much more. He hated himself a little at this point.

It was a few minutes before he uncovered one of his ears, listening for any sound that would indicate how Wes was.

Wes watched the door shut before falling to his knees. He was still wearing his boxers, but it was just too late to take them off now. He shuddered and another wave of pain passed through him, mixed with nausea, and for a moment he was sure he was going to throw up.
And then it stopped.
He shifted on his feet, lowering his hands to the floor gingerly so he was on all fours, looking around as if to ask the 'powers that be' if that was it. For a moment nothing moved, the room dark and silent. He couldn't even hear Caiden on the other side of the door. It was unnerving. He made to stand up, and that was when it hit him properly.

Wes always had a bet going with himself. He always made it a few days before the full moon, just for fun. He always bet himself that he wouldn't scream. This time he'd do it silently, like a man, embrace the pain and change without a sound.
He never won that bet.
The scream that tore from his lips was almost unearthly, and it was no surprise that the people of Hogsmeade thought it haunted by a violent poltergeist. Tears poured down his cheeks as his bones began to stretch and curve under his skin, his spine pushing up, forcing his back to curve down. His skull began to stretch outwards, forming slowly, painfully, into a muzzle, his voice changing as he screamed, growing deeper, throatier, less and less human. His skin itched as fur slipped through, brown, thick and coarse, and his nails pushed out into claws. It was more painful than Wes could ever remember afterwards, and he was powerless to do anything. He was crippled as his body rearranged itself into a whole new form.
The worst part of the whole thing was that this wasn't even close to how painful it was without the Wolfsbane Potion.

The potion allowed Wes to embrace the wolf as the moon filled, and rather than it taking over him, he became it. His form was different with the potion, more like that of a regular wolf, only significantly larger. Large enough for someone to ride, but Wes could only take so many indignities. It also allowed for him to keep some semblance of control. Though he was more animal-like, Wes could remember people and stop himself from attacking anything in the near vicinity, as long as he didn't allow himself to get bored. When his mind wasn't engaged, it was easy to slip, for Human Wes to sleep whilst Wolf Wes took over, and he would forget himself.

Wes' transformation ended before Caiden uncovered his ears, though for all Wes knew it had gone on for hours (it had certainly felt like it). He whimpered from where he was, curled on the floor, a large, brown, furry, wolf.

She had found out almost a year and a half ago. She had been talking with Ellie when the other girl off handedly mentioned that Caiden often snuck out of Ravenclaw only to return the next morning. Gemma really did try, honest, not to poke her nose into her older brother’s business but she was never much good with self restraint. So, for a solid three weeks she watched the entrance to Ravenclaw past curfew – looking back it’s a sheer miracle she had never been caught by Filch – until the fateful night her brother appeared near midnight. She followed him out onto the grounds and when he started heading toward the Whomping Willow, Gemma got a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach…

See, Jamie had the tendency to spill quite a few Marauder secrets when he’s pissed off cheap rum. It back when they were still messing about being snog mates that he enraptured her with a story that featured the famous Remus Lupin, a fullmoon, the Shrieking Shack, and the Whomping Willow.

Gritting her teeth, Gemma silently tagged along behind her brother as he froze the ancient tree and slipped through a tunnel. Once she found herself into on the lowest floor of the shack, she scared the piss out of Caiden and a half nude Wes. For only a moment she wondered if she had stumbled upon something else entirely.

Now, she joined the two of them for most full moons. She often joked with Wes that it was nice to know that not just birds had a time of the month. She travelled along to make sure nothing went wrong and to keep Caiden sane as he listened to his best friend transform in the other room.

Tonight she was later than usual because she had to wait for the rest of her dorm to fall asleep before she could slip away. Gemma found her brother huddled in corner outside of the lounge with a distressed look upon his face. He didn’t even notice she was there until she spoke.

“I brought a fat load of chocolate,” she said as she removed a Honeydukes bag from her rudsack. “I know Wes will really crave meat, but the chocolate will at least make him feel bit better. The chocolate was easy to nick. I figured it’d be a bit suspicious if I tried to smuggle out half a steak.”

Caiden jumped when Gemma spoke, looking up at her with rather damp eyes. He looked around towards the door, sighing softly. There was no sound in there. "Thank you for coming-" He thanked Gemma every time. Every time it just made it easier for him. It made it easy to have someone he could turn to and hug when he needed it, even though they joked about it.

He stood and pushed the door open slowly, peering around and spying the wolf curled up on the floor. "Wes?" he whispered a little apprehensively, stepping fully into the room and then padding slowly over to his friend. "Wes? Are you...feeling ok? Gemma is here-" Wes would be able to smell Gemma already, but it was still polite, Caiden supposed, to let him in on it.

Caiden stooped down, stoking his hand gently over the warm, furry belly of the wolf. "I brought you a whole load of things tonight. Keep you entertained. Gem brought you chocolate-"

Looking over his shoulder, he offered his little sister a smile.

Wes' ears perked up slightly as Caiden entered the lounge, but he didn't move, his big golden eyes watching Caiden's careful movements, flicking to Gemma and then back to Caiden as Wes tried to gather his thoughts into something a little more human. He growled as Cai knelt beside him before he caught himself. Caiden. He knew Caiden....
As the other boy's fingers moved through his fur, suddenly Wes seemed to forget about just how much pain he had been in a few moments earlier. He whimpered again and shifted, unable to stop himself rolling onto his back, his large bushy tail, sweeping across the floor, betraying how much he enjoyed that touch (if him presenting his stomach didn't do that enough).

Caiden smiled, making himself comfortable on the floor and running his fingers slowly over Wes's belly. His hair was so long and dark, like Wes' hair when he was human. "Is that nice? Do you feel ok? Here-" He reached into his bag and pulled out a little plastic container he'd charmed so that the smell of meat didn't get out. He'd taken a few sausages from the dinner table. Not bleeding everywhere, but they were good and meaty. He continued to pet Wes's belly and offered him a sausage. It was difficult not to say 'good boy' to Wes, but he knew the boy wouldn't appreciate it, neither as a wolf nor when he changed back.

Gemma winked at Caiden and shuffled in behind him as he approached Wes. He always thanked her every time she came, and likewise she always shrugged it off. They were family, it's what family did.

As Cai started to scratch Wes' fur, Gemma settled herself onto the shabby wooden floor. It was hard for her to keep still, keep quiet, since it was her natural state to be anything but. With Wes' belly turned up for all to see, he looked almost harmless. She knew he had to keep constant concentration so his mind would remain more human than beast, and she had to fight the urge to want to run and play with the cuddly wolf.

She slid closer to them on her knees, and reached her hand out to run the top of Wes' head. How she had come here to make sure nothing went wrong before being was the one who ended up closest to the Wes' razor sharp teeth could only be attributed to her fearless nature. "Now, don't expect me to be the one giving you a head massage come sunrise," she joked. "I'll leave that up to your many other fans."

Wes closed his eyes and Caiden's hand moved across his stomach and he shivered a little. God that felt so good. Practically orgasmic. Despite himself, Wes' tail began thumping against the floor as Gemma's hand joined her brother's and he growled happily, forgetting that to the two of them, it might not have sounded like quite such a happy noise. He looked pretty odd like that, a huge wolf laying on his back, eyes closed, his lips parted and teeth bared in what could only be a wolfish smile of happiness.

His attention, however, snapped up instantly as Caiden opened the box of sausages. Food! Meat! Animal instincts flared up in the boy in seconds and he flipped onto his paws, tummy rubbing forgotten. Caiden held out one of the fatty sausages and Wes grabbed it instantly, his huge powerful jaws snapped the sausage from Caiden's hand, almost taking a finger with it. He danced back away from the two of them, as if they would insist on taking it away from him, until he was far enough away from them to be comfortable, where he set about chewing the sausage. Demolishing it in two bites. He licked his maw and glanced around, standing up for the first time since he'd changed.

Wes had a whole different perspective on the room now, even the smallest sliver of light lit the area almost as if it were broad daylight to his eyes. He padded his way to the window, his claws scratching on the wooden floor, and, using his teeth, attempted to pull down one of the boards across it. No go. The windows and doors were blocked with magic as well. He wasn't the fist wolf to be trapped in here. He whimpered and glanced at the siblings on the floor in a sort of 'let me out' way.

As a wolf all his muscles were tight, ready to pounce, to propel his huge form through the woods. He was prepared for nothing more than running through the woods, tearing into smaller animals. Hunting, killing, eating. He was a spring, tightly wound and trapped in the shack. But it was safer this way he reminded himself. He sniffed and padded back across the floor, looking for another sausage. The werewolf sniffed gently at Caiden's hand and licked gently. It must've looked affectionate, but it was really more of a 'your fingers taste like sausages' sort of way.

Caiden sat back as Wes wandered around the shack and demolished his sausage. He didn't say anything to Gemma, either, but reached out his sausageless hand and touched her arm gently. As ridiculous as it may have sounded to other people, as well as being his sister she was one of his best friends.

"You want another one?" Caiden spoke finally when Wes licked his hand, taking the other sausage from the box and handing it to Wes. "Come on. We'll go for a walk. I brought you something to play with as well-" he smiled, standing and petting Weswolf's head once more, holding out a hand to help Gemma up.

The moon was very bright. Huge and bright. There were no clouds and frost was beginning to settle over the grass. Caiden could smell a lot of forresty things drifting down from the far end of the Forbidden Forest, and he could only imagine how good it must have smelt for Wes.

"Wes?" he called to get his friend's attention, rummaging into his bag again and pulling out an old, battered looking snitch. He'd frozen it earlier, but now with another wave of his wand it flickered into life as well as it could, it's crooked little wings only allowing it to hover a foot or so off of the floor and fly in wonky lines.

Caiden let it go and it fluttered awkwardly off into the trees.

Wes' ears perked up as he chewed happily on the cold fatty sausage, and he cocked his head. A walk! They didn't go for walks often! It was harder for Wes outside, with so many things around to distract him. It was simultaneously wonderful and horrible. It was everything the wolf wanted, but it just made it that little bit easier to slip and forget he was Wes at all. Still, considering it had been such a long time, Wes did deserve the treat of being outside!

His ears swivelled back and forth as they walked through the forest surrounding the shack, Caiden and Gemma leading him further away from Hogsmeade. God forbid any of the residents spotted a huge wolf walking around on the fullmoon. They'd hardly mistake him for a dog!

His nose was on fire, he could smell the grass and the frost, and Caiden and Gemma's breath. He could smell a small mouse making its way through the trees, and an owl watching it from above. Most amazing of all was that he could differentiate each smell for what it was. He glanced up at the moon, white and huge, hanging heavily in the sky. There was a feeling bubbling up inside of him, something he couldn't suppress even with hte aid of the potion. With proud deliberation, Wes tipped his head back, took a deep breath and howled, long and loud, his voice rising high above the trees.

Caiden's voice snapped him out of his moon-sickness and switched him back to reality. His voice and Wes' name. He cocked his head at the thing in Caiden's hand. He didn't know that things' smell. Still, smell on not, with the wave of Caiden's wand, and the sudden movement, Wes knew exactly what it was. Something to chase! Something to hunt and kill! He took off at a run, speeding across the grass instantly, his powerful muscles propelling him so fast even horses wouldn't escape him. He snarled and snapped his jaws around the snitch before he could duck into a bush at the edge of the forest. He felt it's little silver wings beating against his tongue and the roof off his mouth and had to fight the urge to swallow. No, Wes wasn't a wolf! The last thing he needed was to wake up with a stomach full of Snitch! He turned, tail high, and padded back to Caiden and gemma, dropping the rather saliva-coated snitch at their feet, unconsciously playing fetch. If he'd been a tad more human, Wes probably would've died at that thought!

Caiden chuckled as Wes went bounding after the snitch, but his smile faded when the wolf disappeared into the forest. He and Wes didn't make a song and dance about their friendship the rest of the month, they barely spoke to each other, but that didn't mean Caiden didn't spend his nights tossing and turning, watching the moon move through it's phases in the sky, worrying about the other boy.

"I worry about him," he whispered to Gemma, sighing. "I don't...I don't know what to do because..." Caiden frowned. There was nothing he could do. His whole life there hadn't ever been a thing he couldn't solve without a bit of work or money. Now he was left with this, every month, and nothing he could do made it easier for Wes.

The smile returned to his face when Wes appeared and dropped the snitch, picking it up and pepping it with a tap of his wand, releasing it again.

This was something at least.

"I know you are," Gemma whispered back, her breath making little white puffs of each with each word. She wrapped her arms around her brother, hugging him to her and lying her head against his chest. "Let's not get all blubbery and squicky about emotions, but I think simply you being here means more to Wes than you'd ever know. I know if I was in his position... I'd want company the most."

She paused again before grinning up at Cai. "Playing makeshift quidditch isn't too shabby either," she joked as a wolfly Wes dropped a slobbery snitch at their feet. She loved her brother, he was one of her best friends, and it hurt to seem so perplexed. But, that was Caiden's nature. He always wanted to know what more he could do for someone. She knew he could see the sincerity behind her words, even while she passed things that were too intense off with a joke.

As he let the the snitch take off again in a slightly wonky zigzag pattern on account of its still spit infested wings, they watched at Wes bounded after the little golden ball. "Maybe next month I can bring my broom with us."

"... or not?" She smiled innocently at Caiden's fearful look.

Caiden hugged her back tightly, smiling again. "No, no emotions," he grinned, sniffing a little, but he was fine. He did appreciate Gemma being here with him. He'd probably have broken down into a jibbering heap a long time ago if she weren't here to slap him back into shape. He didn't need to say that though. They'd known each other sixteen years, they were pretty close, they could speak without words.

He hugged her gently again once the snitch was bobbing back into the forest.

"Your broom?" Caiden's head snapped around to her, his eyes wide as though she'd just suggested covering herself in meat and running through the forest. "I don't...I don't know if that's a good idea. What if he forgets and...maybe if we were both on brooms..." Caiden's mind was immediately spinning through all of their options. "That might be ok. Then we can keep our eyes on him." He really hated talking about Wes as though he were dangerous - even if he was in this state - because he was still a person. He was still a human. Heck, no one thought of shooting at girls once a month and they could be a whole lot worse than a werewolf...

Wes followed the Snitch more slowly this time, his ears perked, curving around slightly to catch snippets of Caiden and Gemma's conversation, but that didn't interest him quite as much as the fluttering golden ball. He kept his body low in the grass, stalking almost silently. These were things Wes didn't even have to think about. It just came naturally. Hunting instinct. If the moon hadn't been so bright, he would've been invisible against the grass in the darkness. The snitch captivated his attention, and he was ready to pounce..That was, until something else moved nearby.
Wes' struggled to keep his wits about him, but it was hard, for a fox had just emerged from its burrow, upwind of Wes so it had yet to even smell him nearby.

It stalked through the trees, sniffing out prey, unaware that it was in the werewolf's sight, Wes failing horribly at calming himself. He jumped without warning, snarling as he caught the fox under his paws, his teeth closing around it's throat. It screamed, as foxes do, all-too-humanly as Wes's jaws crushed it's windpipe. His pupils were wide as he tore the head clean-off the foxes' body, the air filling with the smell of fresh, hot, blood. He held the head triumphantly for a moment, as the pleasure of hunting wore off and Wes was able to wrestle his mind back.

He dropped the fox's head with an unpleasant thud and backed away, mouth covered in blood simultaneously horrified and enraptured. The wolf hadn't killed it to eat it, or because of some other natural instinct. He'd killed it for the pure pleasure of feeling the last shuddering breath leave it's body and the final thump of its heart. To taste its blood hot on his tongue. The crumpled furry body was a horrible reminder that despite his puppy-ish nature, and playfulness when he was in control, that even with the potion, Wes couldn't stop himself being a deadly animal.

She and Caiden continued to discuss the options of bringing their brooms next time - Gemma still a little shocked that her brother was even entertaining the idea - when Wes went after the snitch again. Gemma didn't notice that Wes had slowed his movements to a predatory stance until he pounced.

Gemma's eyes widened and she let out an involuntary shriek as Wes' mouth closed around the fox. As rapid as he had captured the animal, he had dropped it, now decapitated. Another breathy scream escaped her lips, and she gripped Caiden's shirt to spin them around in the opposite direction. It wasn't the gore that bothered her, though the scene was fairly gruesome. She was in pure shock over what she had witnessed.

Caiden heard the scream of the animal followed by Gemma's before his eyes had even lighted on what had happened. He didn't even have time to make a noise before their back's were turned. His arm automatically clamped around Gemma's shoulders, holding her close to his body protectively. His other hand covered his mouth, as though to hold back any noises.

Long moments passed before he realised he probably probably shouldn't have his back to a werewolf. A werewolf that had just killed something. Caiden turned again, keeping Gemma behind him, raising his wand and pointing it towards the forest.

"Wes?" he called softly, eyes darting around the shadows, despite the fact he could barely see two feet into the trees. "W-Wes? Come back here-" the last thing he needed right now was a werewolf with a taste for blood on the loose- he was supposed to be looking after him.

Caiden took a few paces forward, wand hand visibly shaking. "Wes?"

The air was filled with the tang of blood, and it was all Wes could smell. It was all he could taste. It overwhelmed him, running through his veins, clouding his mind, filling him with desire to hunt. To kill. The moon shone down upon the werewolf as he turned his attention to the frightened screams of his friends.

The wolf stalked through the trees, his eyes shining, reflecting the moonlight. His maw was stained with fox blood, teeth bared as he watched the backs of his next two victims. They'd turned away from him, giving the wolf enough time to creep downwind. His prey couldn't smell him now, they wouldn't be able to hear him coming.
Wes' heart was beating fast, the excitement of the hunt thrilling him. he was a soiled string, a steal trap ready to snap. He moved through the grass to Caiden's left, just out of sight, but he failed slightly, his excitement letting out a small soft growl of anticipation. It didn't matter either way. They were dead now!

He knew something was wrong. Something felt wrong with this. Something he shouldn't be doing. The awkward wrong-ness washed over him, but it was gone a moment later as a fresh breeze brought another whiff of his kill, the fox's blood pooling into the soil, cold and sticky.
He snarled and jumped, teeth bared, eyes wide and trained on Caiden's throat. Wes could almost taste the blood, and he wanted to!

It was lucky for Caiden that he'd been brought up to have quick reactions, both on the Quidditch pitch and when play duelling with his siblings and cousins.

He heard Wes growl and spun around, wand pointed. "Argentum Attonitus!" he squeaked, a burst of silver light shooting from the tip of his only weapon. The silvery water hit Wes' foreleg, drops clinging to his fur and merging together like mercury.

He'd never had to do that before. Never had to hurt Wes. He was still shaking, his heart hammering in his chest as though it were trying to get out.

Caiden didn't know how he managed to stay standing on his wobbling legs. Wes had dropped to the floor right in front of him, but before anything else, Caiden looked over at his sister, wanting to know she was still there, still safe. Only then could he turn back to Wes, to see if his friend was back in control.

One moment, all the wolf could think and feel and want was Caiden's blood oozing across his tongue, and the next was burning pain! He collapsed into the grass with a yelp as the silver, pure from Caiden's wand, clung to his leg. The strange, sticky liquid metal was cool to the touch.. if you weren't a werewolf. To Wes, the silver stung as if it were fresh from a fire, and there was nothing he could do to get it off! It was clinging to his fur like hot glue!

The smell of burning hair covered the tang of blood, and the pain gave Wes something new to concentrate on, something he could think about outside of animal instincts. It hurt! His head cleared and he whimpered, looking up at Caiden and Gemma from where he'd fallen. Oh god he'd done something bad. He'd done something and this was their way of protecting themselves! Wes closed his eyes and continued whimpering, hoping they wouldn't leave him where he'd landed out of fear. How else could he tell them he was back in control?

Caiden looked back at Wes, laying on the floor whimpering. Of course it had hurt and, hopefully, it had been enough to bring Wes back to his right mind.

"Wes?" Caiden whispered, approaching his friend. "Can you hear me? If...if you can understand me..." he reached out a hand and touched Wes' head, petting nervously. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry I hurt you-" despite the fact hhe had a legitimate reason for it he still felt bad and, having deduced that Wes was with them again, waved his wand to remove the silver, still stroking Wes' head apologetically.

Wes whimpered and squeezed his eyes shut against the burn, staying still as Caiden's hand moved through his fur, though he couldn't stop the high pitched whines in his throat. As the silver vanished, the spot on his leg was left with a dull ache, a sting that would fade before the fullmoon was over. Wes healed quickly over the moon.
He licked the tips of Caiden's fingers softly, which was his only way of showing that it was him, and that he meant Caiden no harm. His tail drifted slowly behind him, a snail's-pace wag to show Gemma and Caiden he was ok. He promised. An owl screeched in the forest, and his ears were perked instandly, his eyes wider and he lifted his head to look around, teeth just poking out of his mouth. He looked up at the sinking moon, before licking Caiden's cheek. The moon was starting to set. Wes' hell had almost abated for another night. One down, two to go and then a month's relief.

Gemma felt like crying. Not that she'd dare do it of course, but the stress of the night was getting to her. She wrapped her arms around Caiden and crushed him into a hug until he'd was probably ready to shake her off. She was so thankful he had kept his head in the moment. That was one thing her brother was that she could never be - calm in a crisis.

She hated that she had the fight the instinct to flinch in fear as Wes' tongue poked out to dart to Cai's cheek. It wasn't normal to be afraid of one of your friends, Werewolf or no. She leaned over and gave a bear hug to Wes as well, feeling a bit better after she heard his heartbeat. It was distinctively human, not too fast nor slow enough to be part of the animal inside him. When she saw his face turn toward the moon above them, she followed, thankful that tonight was almost over.
