Town Square has been turned into a glittery outdoor area for showing off young ladies in ball gowns and lobstrosity costumes. The back drop, at first, seems like it's raining stars. The closer you get, though, you'll notice those stars are shaped like little lobsters. Off to the side is a pen with farm animals for sale, particularly pigs. There's also booths for arts and crafts.
The one who wins the crown will go onto become the Lobster Queen for the next year.
What does she get from that?
Well, a spiffy crown shaped like a lobstrosity for starters. She'll be atop the second largest float in the parade, surrounded by the four winner swine the pig farm has ever had.
She'll earn $10K toward college from various town sponsors. Major Dunwich events will host her throughout the year. She'll volunteer her time to various institutes around Dunwich, like the soup kitchen and the children's ward at the church.
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
You'll be wearing your casual best. Or you should. Some people are wearing bathing suits, some are wearing slinky dresses, and some are trying for the "normal" vote in jeans and a t-shirt. You'll be standing on stage in your position until they call you up to answer your question. You only get one of the following:
"How would you preserve the lobstrosity for future generations?"
"What is your favorite thing about lobstrosities?"
"If you could ask a lobstrosity a question, what would it be?"
"What wisdom do you think a lobstrosity could impart on our world?"
"What is your favorite lobstrosity tale?"
TALENT PORTION
From yodeling to storytelling or pig wrangling, the contestants will show off their talents. Not everyone is as talented as they think.
LOBSTROSITY COSTUME
Hope you brought your A-game when it comes to these costumes. They're outlandish, more like Miss Universe than Miss America, and some of these people definitely spent more than the $250 limit on their costume. Though if a local place donated, you could get away with more. Clearly the locals have a leg up here.
Or should we say a claw up?
BALLGOWN
Our final category is BALLGOWN. Again, there was a $250 limit, but donations or fabric, beads, jewels, and dresses were allowed as long as the forms were filled out ahead of time.
