Hour 23: Surprise Leftover Double Prompts - Djinn and Oracle!
[At this point, our door is basically wide open to whoever feels like taking a whirl at the assistant thing - so here's the lovely Twyla, who has succinctly captured the full essence of Drabble Day!

Thanks, guys! So you get two prompts for this penultimate hour: Djinn and Oracle! Have fun!

There may have been some liberty in how this prompt was perceived?

A worker had told her about the djinn in the desert. Not prone to flights of fancy, she ignored him. But as she lay in bed that night, she pictured them. Spirits, not devils, he’d said, not angels. In the morning, her sketchbook page was covered with scribbles, a shadowy figure with the paws of a cat, a snake, an owl with eyes that knew her.

Several years later she finds the page, tucked underneath a stack of Portia’s letters signed in a script that looks like the ocean. No, she thinks, she is not prone to flights of fancy.

Susan doesn’t quite know what happened. She was working a case – a man abducted, nothing special as such, but something odd about the three clients. The dark-bearded one near-frantic with worry for the kidnapped fellow; the Frenchman reeking of gin and anger; the tall woman and her unnerving stare. Andrea Smith, sure, there’s a fake name Susan’s never heard before.

Susan put the work in. Did the job. Found the bloke, no worse for the wear, and witnessed the reunion, which was a bit of sweet. That’s not remarkable, but what they paid her?

Well. It’s only a fucking fortune.

Susan doesn’t believe in fate or oracles, on account of being raised by the bloody Seer of London, the most brazen cheat to ever hold a séance. He taught her early just what tosh all that business is.

But this isn’t fool’s gold, no trickery she can find. Only more money than she’s seen in a lifetime, and only one thing she wants to do with it.

Cara stares when Susan spreads the haul out before her like a dragon’s hoard. “But – who were they?”

“I don’t care if they’re demons, Cara, let’s go. Tomorrow, now. Let’s find the sun.”

Jamshid slowly drew Muntadhir’s robes around him, smoothing the silk over his soft skin. He could feel Muntadhir getting nervous as the hour for dinner neared.

“They already know Emir-joon, there’s nothing to be nervous about,” Jamshid assured him.

“We’ve been a secret for so long, and even if Ali, Zaynab and Nahri are as happy with it as you say, we’re still a Djinn prince and the Baga Nahid. We’re going to draw lots of attention.”

Muntadhir’s bad eye twitched, Jamshid drew the eye patch over it, kissing Muntadhir softly, “It’s time, love, past time. I promise, we’re ready.”

Schitt´s Creek - Patrick/David & puppy (yep)

The dog´s name when they got him was Djinn, but whenever they told people that, they assumed it was ´Gin´, and some of their friends even started bringing bottles of Gin around when they were visiting, so Patrick suggested they call it something else, even though he appreciated a good drink with his husband every once in a while.

“Djinn does have a certain mystique to it, though, plus, it´s a one-syllable name, much like Cher.” David scrunched up his face skeptically.

“You´re not suggesting we name him Cher, right?”

“I´m just saying. And Cher already exists, of course.”

“Right.”

“Don’t interrupt, Mister Shadwell. I don’t know how to make this machine go back.” A measured pause, “Other practitioners can be found via the Sunrise Spa on Clark street.”

Frank finally lets go of a rather limp Laurence and looks at him, eyes hopefully conveying how much Laurence´s well-being means to him. He knows it doesn´t make a difference in Laurence actually getting better, but it´s at least something he can do right here and now and every time they´re together.

He runs a hand through his friend´s hair and caresses his face lightly. Laurence looks tired again, but he also just filmed a whole video basically in one take. Frank is so proud.

“I wish I were an oracle, so I could see how to make you better.”

Malcolm thrust himself inside Nicola with manic energy, fingering her clit with graceless determination. Except that it felt fucking incredible, he didn’t know why he kept allowing this to happen, or why she did. They clung together a moment longer after he came, focusing on gulping in air, rather than their mutual disgust.

They were the dictionary definition of toxic. You didn’t need a bloody oracle to realise they were going to end up with shit on their faces.

“I’m thinking with my dick, what the fuck are you doing?” He asked her.

“Trying to shut you up,” she replied.

He feels such a relief at that thought. He really didn´t know what to do last night when he seemed to be all alone with what was left of Laurence.

He never knew mental health issues could become like this. Not that that matters anymore now.

He feels almost raw on the one hand, and strangely happy on the other. To still be here. Somehow, they made it through the night. Together.

Teen Wolf - Stiles

Stiles’ entire body collapsed with defeat. He’d lost track of time but he was certain that it had been days since Scott found that ‘weird smelling bottle’ and insisted they ask Derek about it.

Stiles knows things – Stiles has watched TV – so he knew the djinn would have a twisted interpretation of each wish. He tried to warn them – inscribe that on his headstone please; He Tried to Warn Them.

Three wishes per person. Scott and Derek taking it in turns in their usual pissing contest. Taking turns at making the dumbest, loop-hole ridden wishes the world had ever known.

Nicholas was adamant that they leave England. "They already think you're a witch, Andromache. Next, they'll think Joseph is a djinn."

"If only I was," Joseph muttered bitterly, seeing the ruined state that Andromache, longing for their missing sister. "I would happily lay waste to this whole country."

With Andromache and Joseph safely hidden, Nicholas posed as a merchant from Genoa and made inquiries about the ship that transported Quynh. It wasn't long before his leads splintered and multiplied; there was little loyalty among the crews and deckhands took whatever wages available. They had soon searched every ship in Southampton.

Years of searching ensued, Andromache following every lead as if it were an oracle from the gods. And each time, they came up empty handed. The 16th century became the 17th, then the 18th, and then more; they became Joe and Nicky and Andy and they welcomed new members of their family. Shipping and diving equipment modernized, sonar transformed the ocean's mysteries, but it was to no avail. Quynh was still lost. And Andy with her. Booker and Nile never knew the Andy who had been tossed into the waves with Quynh, but Nicky and Joe mourned her every day.
