Um.. grandfather...

I suppose it could be worse. At least it is just one.

Did it come with a journal?

In Grandather's day it might have come with animal skins, since he was born in the mid 1800's. Still I wonder what it would have been like back then. Maybe his journal was full of pictures and few written words.

It's possible, depending upon his education.

True. That was about the time the missionaries was visiting the indians on the plains, I suspect though, that his english didn't really develop until his Wild West show days so like my journal on occasion it not written in english.

I bet this all would sound strange.

Or I must be really crazy and writing all of this interaction and not remembering.

What do you mean it's not written in English?

I think anywhere else it would sound strange.

Your grandfather heard voices too? I can't say I know any other family members that hear voices, but it would explain a lot.

His cousin Crazy Horse was said to hear them too, so quite possibly there is a familial connection. Maybe we inherit them, but this voice doesn't sound like anyone the indians would know.. It has a more "civilized" nature than what my ancestors would recognize.

That name, I think, means more in American history, sorry.

Has he told you his name, or anything about himself? I hear mine quite clearly. I still don't think any family members heard them, or surely it would have been covered up and denied completely.

Quite alright, and you are correct to guess it most definitely native american history. Though Black Elk spent some time on the European continent with Wild Bills wild west show. It was being there that improved his english language.

Asked? as in carry on a conversation with him? No, haven't done that. [drumming his fingers on the table in thought] Originally I thought I was crazy, and now this.. perhaps it sensory overload at the moment.. he is fond of food and smoke. Maybe I should put some peyote in my pipe and see what arrives through the mists.

Yes. *grinning at that* With quite a few great-greats removed from the line. We are an oral peoples so grandfather's lessons live on past him, told to us by the storytellers.

I was up north for a while; in Alberta, Canada, actually. Worked for a company called Syncrude about 3 years back. We were after the oil sands. Pretty good company, supported the native americans, they helped me get my MBA. But wow it was cold as heck, up there [chuckling slightly] even if it was just a dry cold. This is almost summer weather compared to that.

Isn't that the truth! Especially if you have one that seems to want to fill your head with talk when you are trying to find some "quiet" time for yourself. Not that I mind the chatter when I am out at a dig, it does fill the time when I have to get through sections of dirt.. that are just _dirt_. I would think that multiple voices would just start arguing with each other.

Mine tends to try to argue with me in general. At least, I think that's what he's doing. He has Opinions. Sometimes, they even make sense and come in English. So I hear you, really I do.

Oh! You have one that sometimes speaks in a different language, too? It's none of the languages that I know, and I have an understanding of a few of them under my belt. We should meet somewhere and we could see if you can read some of these entries.

Yes! You do! And rather loudly I might add. Though at least your questions are about what I am doing. Would be gawd awful if they were about willy-nilly things like the local horticulture all the time.

*pfffft* And what would be wrong with talking about plant lifes and gardening. My best friend knows all about them, and his father is best at growing them. Though you seem to know enough to keep us from starving to death. I liked those, those.. what did you call them?

Prickly Pear Cactus? We had those in corn tortillas along with cheese, mushrooms, and wild onions the other day. I wish we would have had some pork to mix in with it too, but you can't keep that cool in the valley unless you dry it into jerkey first.

Does make you wonder though don't it, think about the music you could write if they helped you come up with the words to the songs. Just don't use the melancholy or dark ones. People will think you are unhappy when you aren't.

I'm not a very dark guy. It brings me down too much. My voice is an interesting one though. He's kind of a badass. It could be an inspiration.

Do you know yours yet?

Not quite. He is soft-spoken at least, so at least he doesn't yell when he talks. Which is a good thing since he does a lot of that. I think he has some poetic moments but can't understand when he talks like that. It's definitely a whole new language there. [Chay gives Cael a wink ] A bad-boy type for inspiration. That would be a fun aspect to explore in the music industry. Definitely will fit in, in SinCity.
