I might be able to convince my previous fiancé to take me on as his mistress, but this would be a challenge. He is titled, as I have told you, and his reputation is impeccable. You are lonely, but you do not wish to say it. You talk to people here, on these journals, even though you pretend not to like any of them when you do. You isolate yourself, though you yearn for companionship. You drink to forget, to feel nothing, but it does not work. Nothing changes from bottle to bottle, oui? I believe you are scared, monsieur, and perhaps disheartened with what you have become, but not so much that you can cut off the world, though you would very much like to be able to.

I do not know what has caused it all, however. I do not believe it was the love of a woman lost. Perhaps this contributed, but there is more to you than this.
