[brielle g.]

[After his conversation with Luke.]

I doubt you want to speak to me after the party, but Wren insisted How are you, Brielle? Have you heard from Alexander at all?

[poison ivy]

Ivy, is something going on that I ought to know about?

A man, who else? You're all the same.

No. Not all of us are men like that.

You've never hurt a woman? You've never taken what's yours.. because you paid for that ring and that dress, and everything is yours? Men ARE possession, Earth, women, trivial scraps of paper containing the faces of dead men. You've never strangled someone while you fucked them, if only to silence the annoyance of their weeping? You've never pressed a face into a mirror and made them look, really look, at what they'd become?

[...] Even that Luke, she puts him on such a pedestal because he never frightened her. And what does he do? He throws her under the bus, he lets her take the conviction of crimes never committed and he says YES, YES, it was her.

[There's a long pause, but her typing continues soon enough.] Do you ever feel like its futile? Like you should take on everything, just to see if you can. I'd ask the Hood or the Bat, but we're not on speaking terms. They're disappointing me.

I hurt a woman once. It was recent, during that night in the hotel. I wasn't myself at the time, affected by that blue light, and even still, the guilt so gnawed at me that I contacted her and I talked with her about it. I did all I could to make amends. I can think of little worse than hurting a woman in the way you describe. I've seen the men who treat women that way, and I know them well, because I used to kill them.

I don't think that's actually what happened, Ivy.

Like what is futile? I can't help you with Jason. He hardly speaks to me, anyway, and it would take a lot of convincing to get him to believe you aren't out to hurt innocent people. He's fixed on that one.

Where in the hotel?

I know what happened, Jack. I was there. Brielle did nothing wrong, and she's too afraid to speak up for herself and that lousy sonofabitch Luke doesn't say anything either. Let her fall. Let her fall.

[...] I've just been doing some thinking. Plans. Can you cross over and convince him to stay, if only for a short while?

[...] The library.

Brielle lied to her cousin about her relationship with Luke and denied her help when she needed it most. I want Brielle to be happy, and god knows she's clearly been through enough already. If that monster you won't name gets anywhere near her, I'll be the first to volunteer to deal with him. But she made a bad decision, lying to Wren and omitting information. Because of the way she went about things, Wren still thinks Luke is going to run off with her any day, she mentions it all the time. Brielle did much to wreck the nascent happiness I saw in that girl, intentionally or not. She isn't a saint, nor is she blameless, and we all have to live with the things we've done.

[...] I can. Can you tell me what it's about?

[...] So it was you, didn't think you had it in you.

Brielle never lied, and if Wren thinks that the girl denied her help, then she couldn't be further from the truth. She put her on a plane, and that's the best she could do considering what came after. You know so little, knight, and even you would consider the worst of her. [...] Typical.

But no, if the Hood wants to involve himself then that's that. If I die tonight, he can spit on my corpse. [...] Have him on the other side within the hour.

Neither did I. And under any other circumstances, I wouldn't have.

that's not what I All I can tell you is what I know, Ivy. You can dismiss me as much as you like.

[No further comment on any of the former topics.]

I have things to do then. Farewell, knight.
