Elias M / Sherlock H
[She's been through the door for nearly a week, John living in the flat in London. They lost track of Sherlock at some point, so Clare's taking a chance that Elias has returned to Las Vegas, but adds Sherlock to the lock as well.]

I can't keep staying through the door. If nothing else, I have to stop back at the apartment so I can go to work. Have you heard anything more about Micah?

[Confident that he is Sherlock Holmes. Who would not trust him?] Obviously.

"Obviously." Right. Okay. I'm going home then. [...] Thank you.

[After a moment.] We weren't sure you were still there, is the thing.

If Elias was not there, then I must be here, correct?

[She's been fighting with Micah while also watching the entries unfold in her journal. It doesn't make for completely polite or calm responses. It's still tame, but written quickly and less neatly than usual.]

I wasn't here, so I wouldn't know if Elias was. Not that we talk much anyway. And you weren't at the flat. John's been there nearly a week and didn't see you.

No, Elias has little to say to you. He thinks you likely to fall into crying little pieces. It does not foster intelligent conversation. As much as he is able, at any rate.

[There's a shocked sort of "silence" for a moment as that sinks in.] Well that's just great. I don't think I've cried once in his presence, so glad to know that's what people think of me. At least you're honest about it.

You shrink like a violet. It is a natural conclusion. I have made the same, though no doubt a product of your conservative upbringing and recent victimization.

I've always been shy. Even when I'm surrounded by people I know, and yes it's worse in a city where I knew no one. That doesn't mean I'm going to dissolve into tears, even if I'm not comfortable with something. I don't like strangers, but it gets better as I get to know people. Also, I don't have to explain myself to you, so I don't even know why I'm bothering.

And all things considered, I think I've been doing pretty well with my "victimization".

People enjoy attempting to tell me I'm wrong.

Trust me, I'm enjoying very little about this conversation.

Also very common in my conversational partners.

I perceive you are annoyed I did not speak with John in the intervening week. He has been lately doing his best to avoid me, I cannot think why my attempt to make it easier was not welcomed.

As for my assessment of you, I stand by it. Your retiring personality is not just shyness, it is an extreme that does not wear upon later encounters. We must put Micah Callaghan aside as an example given his recent transgressions, but you had seen Elias three times and spoken with him at length on the journals. He is also possibly the most stupidly inoffensive man I have ever had the misfortune to meet.

It makes no difference to me, you will be delighted to know.

I can't imagine why.

For someone who's supposedly so smart, you're kind of an idiot at being a friend, aren't you? Maybe it doesn't factor into your idea of how people should work, but sometimes people get overwhelmed by stuff. Like having their best friend die, finding out they're a fictional character in someone else's head, having their friend come back to life, being attacked while they're someone else, and then getting sucked into a different world for a week. All while trying to balance what is essentially a brain and body timeshare. So sorry if he hasn't been chasing you down for tea. That doesn't mean you have to disappear so much that we wonder if you're even in London at all. [By the end of the paragraph, the handwriting is messier from writing quickly, pen pressing hard, but it's still very much Clare's, no hint of John leaking through.]

[There's a pause after her rant, and finally in a calmer hand, reluctantly.] Elias makes me [...] nervous, I guess is the best way to describe it. Cautious? I don't know why. He's harder for me to warm to, though I can tell that it should be easy. I'd blame you and John if I could figure out a way that it made sense.

You hypothesize that John's situation would improve if I was lingering around the flat?

I have no doubt you would like to blame whoever came nearest to hand.

I "hypothesize" that the man might like to at least see the person he considers his best friend.

It wouldn't make sense to blame whoever's nearby. It would at least make some sort of sense to blame the people we have living in our heads, but I didn't say that I actually did. I don't know why I feel that way, though I'm trying to be better about it because we seem to be stuck in this strange situation with no sign of it changing. But if he thinks so little of me, I don't know why I should bother with that even.

Would he? I was not aware of this change in circumstance.

[He just ignores the rest of it.]

Because you weren't around to observe or deduce it. Now you're aware. [He seems to be easier for her to sass than most people. Possibly because he doesn't rein in his own sharpness.]

[The ignoring earns an eyeroll, but she lets it drop too.]

[Almost everyone is sharp with Sherlock, to meet the perceived challenge of his manner. He's used to it.] And your ultimate goal in informing me of John's intimate thoughts is... what?

To bring you up to speed, since you seem to be behind? Clare. Fine. Just to let you know. He misses your company and wouldn't mind seeing you again next time you both are in London at the same time.
