Does anyone have any tips on how to drown out obnoxious twinkling? Especially the judgmental twinkling. It makes it very difficult to work.

Yea, that's the best way to describe it. She doesn't like me very much.

I didn't realize a twinkle could be judgmental. Who talks that way?

It's [...] just what I interpret it as. She can be very vocal sometimes though.

I can't say I'm jealous. Am I allowed to ask who it is?

You're allowed. Her name's Tinker Bell. She's a fairy.

Tinker Bell? Seriously? As in Peter Pan's irritating little friend?

She's not always irritating, but yes, she's Peter Pan's fairy friend.

I really am not jealous now.

That's not very comforting. Who've you got in your head then?

Comfort is not something I excel at.

At the risk of sounding like a hipster, I don't think you'd recognize him.

I'm sure you could, if you tried. It's not so bad.

Unless he's a movie character, probably not. I don't read much.

I have tried. And failed.

Why on earth not? Movies barely even begin to capture any of the essence of a book, much less create anything worthwhile on their own.

Maybe you just need the right person?

I don't really have a lot of time to read if it's not my textbooks and even those I don't read. Movies are shorter too.

The right person to comfort? I doubt it.

And people wonder why literacy is becoming so rare in this country. Textbooks I can't recommend reading, but you could at least try to get in one novel every so often, even if it's shit.

Or the right person to show you how? It's definitely a skill. Maybe you just need practice.

It's just rare in certain groups. Kids who grew up not needing to work all the time read a lot more than I do.

The world is full of empathetic, soft-hearted people willing to lend a shoulder. I'd rather stand in opposition, just to be contrary.

You seriously never had time to read as a child?

The world is just as full of cold hard people who would rather walk past you on the street.

I read in school, and when my mother was away, but as soon as I was old enough to start working, reading for fun wasn't a big priority.

Yes. And I'm one of them. Sympathy just doesn't come easily to me.

How old was old enough to start working?

You should at least learn to fake it.

Umm, well I started taking care of myself when I was 8. I babysat for some of my mom's friends when I was like...12. I started real work at 18.

Can't. Won't bother.

So you haven't read for leisure since you were eight. What a depressing thought. To get back to where we started, then, I guess it really is probable you haven't heard of the person being oh-so-righteously indignant in my skull.

Well that's just you being stubborn then.

Exactly. I hadn't even remembered Tinker Bell until the twinkling started. Then I saw a movie cover in a display and figured it out.

That must have been ... depressing? Annoying? I'm not sure what the proper word for the situation is. He's from Phantom of the Opera. Novel version.

A bit of a shock. I bought pretty much every movie I could find with her in it. She likes Hook best out of all of them, I think.

Oh! That's the one with the girl who gets kidnapped by the guy with the burned face right? He lives in the sewers with a mask and it's creepy?

It's a little more complicated than that, but ... yes, in general, that's what the story's about. Very overdramatic.

So where does your person figure in if he's not in the movie?
