[locked to Samwise and Aragorn
Samwise -
I have taken the time to pen a note to your old Gaffer. Nob will take it to Buckland next week or the following one and have Uncle Rory send it on up to Hobbiton. That should give us the extra time that we need it. I have only _stretched_ the truth in a few places, and have left out the real reasons behind our journey southward.

My Dearest Gaffer Gamgee
I am going to borrow your son for a longer time then I first requested. It is surprising how much has accumulated in my parents home at Crickhollow. No doubt, the rooms are a dumping place for any mathom that has been shared far too many times, and a year would be far to short a time in which to get it cleaned out to the barest of walls. We have cleared one of the rooms ..
into another and in the process of taking a load of goods to Auntie Mini's cousins in Bree.. okay so that was a stretch, but at least it would explain our presence here We have been asked to help her cousin, who has broken a leg, to take a load of good Southern Pipeweed southward to a place called Isengard. The journey shouldn't take much more than a fortnight or two. I suspect his correspondences to you will be... Even less than they currently are...

Hoping our orchard of apple trees are behaving and looking forward to several bottles of apple wine and many pantry's stocked with apple butter from the results.

Respectfully Yours,
F. Baggins

[In Sindarin]
Telcontar,
I think we should leave the Inn seperately and meet up again somewhere on the Southern Road. I have procured Samwise and I, a reason and a wagon south. I trust in your knowledge of the road that you will find an out of the way spot in which to reconvene. But that would spare the questioning that would surely arise from the Breelanders if we three were seen leaving Bree together.

Mr. Frodo, you never stop surprisin' me like this. Very well, then. When are we getting on with our journey? I don't much like the idea, but at least we've got knowledge of what's to come now. I'm worried about Merry and Pippin, too. What will happen to us if they don't get wrapped up in this mess again, or how will they? Wasn't it Strider who went on saying that we shouldn't change the future too much?

Fairly soon. It is just the calm before the storm and the roads are still safe even in 'our' past. Unkle has The Thing, which is different than I remember, but I have a feeling that it will be far safer with him for now. I would be too tempted to advance the story if I were to have it in my possession now.

They will get involved again, since of course, they are too inquisitive not to. And you being their 'chief spy' on me will ensure that their curiosity about our quest will continue to grow. I suppose I will still have to act surprised when you conspirators are unmasked but that shouldn't be too difficult. I do not think this journey south looking for the palantir with Aragorn will change too much of our future.

Along the Greenway, Frodo?

We do not want to go so far south as Tharbad and the banks of Gwathló.

That will do. Crossing the Greyflood at that town would bring too many inquisitive tongues. I believe we can sell the wagon and it's goods where The South road from Michael Delving joins the Greenway.

That should be about 2, maybe 3, days journey from Bree with the wagon. Perhaps that will cut into Lotho's sales of our Longbottom leaf to Saruman and help insulate The Shire from the war.
