Tana-tana-tana-tanabata!
Who: EVERYONE
What: WISHES
Where: SHRINE
When: TANABATA
Why: TANABATA

It was a story of star crossed lovers. Literally.  Orihime and Hikoboshi, meeting up with one another for only one night a year, seperated by the Milky Way. This always seemed kind of stupid (you'd think they would get tired of only being able to be with the one they love for only one day out of the entire year) but humanity was always romantic, and so, their reunion was celebrated.

There was bamboo set up everywhere, with little pieces of paper on them. These pieces of paper held the wishes of everybody that came to the festival, in hope that one day, they too will be able to have their wish come true. They would be burned the day after, true, but just for one night, it seemed that anything could happen.

Everywhere you look, people in yutakas walked around. There were booths everywhere, and people playing at those booths. Really, it was quite nice.

Kanaye was having great pleasure in people looking at his yutaka in confusion. It was gold. Not actually the element, but it was definitely light, shiny, and pure gold in color. The contrast between it and every other yukata nearby was shocking to say the least.  He was waiting for Maeko, who hasn't shown up yet.

Kanaye was rushing behind her in a somewhat more graceful manner. He was kind of tripping on his tukata at points, but nothing serious. His mind, however, was a different matter. He needed to clear this up with Maeko as soon as possible.

He got there just in time to notice Maeko's act of rage, and started walking slower. "Maeko-chan..." he said sadly as he reached her. "I'm sorry if I did anything to hurt you. I really didn't mean it."

Rage was running out! She was going to have to think about what she'd just done! That wouldn't do!

There wasn't enough rage lef to waste it on yelling at Kanaye, especially since he was likely no more involved in this than herself or Keiichi. He'd just let himself be manipulated. It explained everything. Nobody would ever really think she was pretty or want to be around her. Misaki had arranged all of it for her stupid fucked up joke.

"What did she tell you to get you to play along?" She asked without turning, staring at the stupid, STUPID wish.

Kanaye quirked an eyebrow. "Play along with what? The only thing that I lied to you about was that stupid conversation me and Misaki had." he said, pleading. He continued, and it was obvious he was trying not to cry. "Everything else was genuine. I know you're upset, but...please, Maeko-chan. Calm down. I know I was stupid to you in the past, but I'm sorry. I just wanted to see you happy for once..." he concluding, trailing off.

Stupid Kanaye. Stupid Keiichi. Stupid wish. Stupid tanabata. Stupid witch. Stupid paradise. Stupid shadows. Stupid murders. Stupid angels. Stupid, irrideemably stupid self.

"To play along with her stupid-" Maeko's voice failed again and she finished that sentench in very fast sign. Then sign failed her when Kanaye finished his peice.

Shields are down! Self-confidence is wide open and can't take another hit! All power to the brain-to-mouth filter generators! We need to prevent further damage!

"Sorry, senpai." She began, then forgot how she'd intended to finish.

Kanaye walked over slowly, then grabbed her a loose hug. "Don't worry about it, Maeko-chan." he said softly, his voice slowly getting back to normal. "I know you're upset. I'm here for you, alright? Don't forget that." he said before releasing her with a panicked blush on his face. "U-um, sorry about the hug, I-I couldn't think of anything else..." he trailed off, embarrassed. "I'm...sorry." he finished lamely.

Kanaye might have let her go but she had no intention at all of doing likewise. She had half-heartedly returned the hug at first and then suggenly clung to Kanaye's chest then he let her go. Because dammit, she was running out of people. Even if this was all just a stupid joke, and it still seemed like the most likely possibility, she'd apparently been lied to about the company the kept for five years and known sort of but not been too bothered about it. Why start now?

"Thank you."

Kanaye looked at Maeko in surprise. He paused a bit, then smiled and hugged her back. "No problem, Maeko-chan. It's what boyfriends are supposed to do, right?" he said, breathing a sigh of relief. Kanaye had managed to defuse the situation so far. All he had to do now was to find Misaki and murder her for Maeko. "...Thanks, Maeko-chan, for believing in me." he said softly in her ear.

Maeko nodded and continued clinging. That was the third or something time he'd mentionned what boyfriends were supposed to do. She kind of whated to know where he'd learned this. Maybe if she just figured out what she was supposed to do and did nothing else then she wouldn't screw up so much.

She finally loosened her girp after a few more seconds, sighing and looking at the torn-off stupid stupid wish again.

"Sorry, senpai. I caused a lot of problems...I think I should go hope."

Kanaye enjoyed the moment. Really, everything that happened today was made up, simply by being able to hold her. He sighed. This was wonderful. His life was like a shojo manga, if shojo manga had sociopaths and magical mind gods. He would assume some of them did.

He snapped out of his trace at her words, them smiled. "Don't worry about it, Maeko-chan. I'm not much better, really. Shall I walk you home? Call for a ride? Your ankle isn't looking too good..." he looked down at her feet, worriedly. "Do you need me to carry you?"

Maeko, remembering her ankle after ignoring it because she was angry, tasted placing her weight on it gingerly. It hurt a little but her leg wasn't flying out from underneath her or anything and that was enough for her to decide that it was fine.

She laughed despite not finding anything actually funny and tested the ankle again. "I think I'll be okay."

'walk it off' didn't really apply so well to injured legs but it was a philosophy that Maeko swore by and she was going to at least try it.

Kanaye nodded. "All right then, but I'm still getting a drive home for you." he said as he took out a cellphone from somewhere. "It simply isn't safe for a girl to be walking home on tanabata alone, especially with an injured leg."

Kanaye flipped the cell phone open and called one of his favorite drivers. The driver he picked was one of the few that he could trust to not talk. After making the arrangements and chatting a bit, he nodded and hung up, offering his hand to Maeko. "Shall we?"

But but but walking it off. The ankle wasn't the only thing she needed to walk off right now. Still, given some thought even if it wasn't too bad to put weight on it it would certainly not be fun after five minutes or so. She could ignore the whole Misaki thing by attempting to tackle the maths handouts instead.

"Thank you." She said again, taking Kanaye's hand.

Kanaye smiled and led her to the nearest street where the driver was waiting. He waved to his employer and his girlfriend as he started the engine. Kanaye waved back, then opened one of the doors. "After you." he said happily. The driver snickered before being shut up by a quick glare from Kanaye.
