Tana-tana-tana-tanabata!
Who: EVERYONE
What: WISHES
Where: SHRINE
When: TANABATA
Why: TANABATA

It was a story of star crossed lovers. Literally.  Orihime and Hikoboshi, meeting up with one another for only one night a year, seperated by the Milky Way. This always seemed kind of stupid (you'd think they would get tired of only being able to be with the one they love for only one day out of the entire year) but humanity was always romantic, and so, their reunion was celebrated.

There was bamboo set up everywhere, with little pieces of paper on them. These pieces of paper held the wishes of everybody that came to the festival, in hope that one day, they too will be able to have their wish come true. They would be burned the day after, true, but just for one night, it seemed that anything could happen.

Everywhere you look, people in yutakas walked around. There were booths everywhere, and people playing at those booths. Really, it was quite nice.

Kanaye was having great pleasure in people looking at his yutaka in confusion. It was gold. Not actually the element, but it was definitely light, shiny, and pure gold in color. The contrast between it and every other yukata nearby was shocking to say the least.  He was waiting for Maeko, who hasn't shown up yet.

Renju had never really been one for festivals. She'd go to the important ones, like Obon, (on those occasions when her mother felt well enough to go) and she'd do hatsumode every year (which her father had always insisted on for some reason), but she'd never been to the rest, and certainly never on her own.

Thus, she was a little lost on her first real Tanabata. The lotus-patterned yukata (some part of her was oddly satisfied with the coloring) Misaki had made for her was very nice, but she could feel a few eyes on her that wouldn't otherwise be, which she really wasn't entirely comfortable with. After spending a little time creeping around and trying to be generally inconspicuous, she was rather grateful to run into a familiar, relatively friendly face amongst the crowd. "Ikeda-san?"

Kiriko looked around for the source of the voice, eventually finding Renju almost a foot below her usual field of vision.

"Oh, Sonozaki-san!" A polite bow - you couldn't get away without one while dressed traditionally, could you? "How are you?"

As she waited for the answer she reflected on Renju's choice of yukata. It suited her well and on the whole gave Kiriko the impression that she cleaned up pretty nice - though, maybe dark colours would have been more appropriate.

"Is that one of the ones Misaki-chan made?"

"Well, thank you."

Renju, amazingly, managed to look even smaller when bowing. It was about the same length and depth as Kiriko's--Kiriko was her kouhai, after all, but also the leader of the group, which meant she ought to be afforded a bit more respect.

This was one of those things Renju probably thought about too much. Then again, she was the same way with honorifics.

"Yes, it is." She held up a sleeve to show off a bit more of the pattern, since the way she held herself (not to mention her small size) meant that it was mostly hidden by folds. "I'm impressed with it. She does very good work."

"Yes, she does, doesn't she?"

Kiriko looked politely (and a bit unreadably) amused. She said nothing of it, but she was actually fairly impressed with the fact that Misaki had managed to finish so many yukatas in such a short period of time, and with fairly good tailoring to boot. She might have suspected she cheated in some way but that seemed so antithetical to her character that Kiriko instead concluded that she had once again underestimated her classmate.

Her attention returned to her senpai, it occured to her that she wasn't entirely sure what to say to Renju. Usually she didn't have a problem with that kind of thing.

Usually she did not speak to people whose shoes had been stolen and given to her by accident.

"How are you enjoying yourself? Do you usually come out for festivals?"

"No. This is my first Tanabata."

Which would explain why Renju looked vaguely lost and ill at ease, rather like she had at Kiriko's birthday party. There were quite a lot of people around, and she was unaccompanied--though whether that was for better or worse was debatable, really, all things considered. Really, she wasn't entirely sure why she was here, and had already half-resolved not to do it again after tonight.

"My fa--parents," she corrected quickly, recalling that the rest of her family supposedly did this sort of thing on a regular basis, "never went to much besides Obon and hatsumode. It's..." Her actual opinion of the matter probably wouldn't go over well, so she held her tongue before her initial response could slip out. "... different."

"Wow, really? You never got to come as a kid?" A shame, in her opinion. That's when Tanabata was the most fun. Well, that and maybe when you had a boyfriend, though she felt comfortable in assuming that was not presently the case.

"Why don't you stick with me, then - we can walk around together." She smiled amiably. If she noted any lack of enthusiasm in Renju's disposition, she certainly didn't show it. "Have you already picked your wish and tied up your tanzaku?"
