Entry tags:parents

Who: Parents (No kids)
What: Parent's Evening!
Where: Nanakamado
When: Evening
Why: So the parents can RUIN LIVES SOME MORE/BE EMBARASSING/WHATEVER.
Note: I don't intend to play the teachers very much. I doubt this is a surprise.

The amount of students at Nanakamado meant that it was almost impossible to book slots with all the necisarry teachers within the same time block. As a result, parents were forced to wait for a long time between each appointment.

The school had clearly foreseen this problem, the assembly hall had been prepared with seats and refreshments to keep perents who they didn't want to enrage from becoming too frustrated with the wait.

"Humph, look at these people," Akiko Aoi said as she sipped her refreshment and stared around the room with judgemental eyes. The doctor was dressed in a black business suit with her hair pulled up and clipped, though some strands hung down her face. She cut an imposing figure in her heeled shoes, even though it was clear that she could only be at most five foot six inches tall. Her manner indicated that she found this all to be trite and a waste of her time.

"Why couldn't they have just mailed us this information. I have other things to work on that are far more important then this." She was muttering to the man that stood next to her. Glancing over at him she cleared her throat as he reached for another plate of cheese squares. "Mikaru..."

The man was slightly scuffy with messy brown red hair and glasses. He was dressed in a ill fitting blazers, a pair of dark gray pants and a lighter gray turtle neck. There was a niceness to his face that resembled Misaki naturally. But his eyes were cooler and a bit blood shot from working late nights on math problems.

"S-Sorry dear." He stuttered some and she shook her head.

"You're as bad as our daughter. I hope to god she won't embaress us anymore. I have co-workers who's children go here. If her grades get any lower...I should have sent her to that progressive school in tokyo, at least then she would get these stupid ideas out of her head."

Akiko looked around and noticed Akuba-san, "I'm going to say hello. At least his daughter can stand up on her own."

"Yes dear," muttered her husband as he followed along quietly behind her.

Mikaru wasn't quite sure what to make of the whole group of people. He wasn't one to socialize normally, that was more his wife's department. The gentleman prefered to sit and work with his math in his small study in the house then hobnob with all these people. Still if it was for Misaki then he would go. His daughter ment a lot to him, she was always so nice and kind to him, even when he didn't have time to check in on her.

He looked around at the various displays of different things. One of the items put up were the cooking clubs "Best of" creations. Of course Keiichi's were on there, but there were a few of Misaki's cakes. He smiled softly and tried to get his wife's attention, and then stopped. He let his hand drop and went back to looking. She wouldn't be happy with this, it wasn't scientific. While it wasn't mathmatic either, he appriciated the geometrical styles of the pastries.

Coming seemingly from out of nowhere, Anoushka took a good look at the wondrous creations. She then followed Mikaru's line-of-sight and smiled after seeing the Cooking Club's presentations. Being fond of baking & cooking, she found delight in the creativity of the exhibits. It was rare for her to leave the confines of the Apartment Building, and even rarer to step inside the very Institution that her tennants attend. This night was more like an excursion for her than a meeting. And what's an excursion without socializing. Still, she had to be in her best. For months now, she had been declared as a Guardian to her newest tennant, Tonbo Nayuki. And she did not want to be a reason or cause of trouble for the earnest young man.

Catching the brief glance of the weary-looking man, she gives off a simple smile and a polite bow. "Hello, there. I couldn't help but notice you keenly observing these exhibits. Are they your child's handiwork, perhaps?" She hopes her inquiry is simple enough not to be invasive and light enough to elicit an answer.

Mikaru paused in his studies and quickly glanced over to the lady beside him. He smiled politely after taking in her face. "The one over there is my daughters yes. Are you one of the parents?"

"Ah, the cakes? It seems your daughter's very good at them, too! You must be very proud of her." She gingerly bowed. "My apologies for the intrusion. I'm Daidouji Anoushka, manager of the Karaba Apartment block in the Southern District. I've been entrusted with the role of being the Guardian of one of my new tennants. He just transferred here a couple of months ago, and is living apart from his family for the duration of his schooling." She grimaced inwardly at her lengthy introduction, but kept her charming smile up. It was a rare occasion to be able to mingle with the parents of other students like this, and it's feeding her curiosity regarding exactly as to what kind of families support Nanakamado Escalator School.

"Your daughter must be very happy to have been given the opportunity to enroll into this prestigious institution by her parents." She was beginning to wonder if she's steering the smalltalk towards the right direction. "Ah~ If only I was fortunate enough to have the same privilege back then..." Quickly snapping out of her reverie, she giggles, "I'm sorry. I'm afraid that this is my first time attending such a gathering. Do you mind if I ask what exactly are we going to discuss with the school during such events as these?"

Proud of her about it? He never really thought about it. Misaki was always there and he didn't come out of the study very much, other then to eat and when his wife was home. But, looking back at the cake, he had to say it was elegantly created and had to think, My daughter made that?

Mikaru looked humble for a moment then nodded his head, "I guess in a way I am. Yes." He laughed some kindly, "Oh no trouble. Pleased to meet you Anoushka-san. Oh really? That is interesting, where did he come from?"

The tall man rubbed his neck some, "Ah...well, she's been going to Namakado since she was young and I wouldn't really call it happy, since well, her siblings all went here, except for her second eldest sister, she's at the Math academey." He smiled cheerfully, "Ah well sometimes the best education isn't bought as they say. Oh, well, basically the teachers sit down with you, or the home room teacher does, and they talk to the parents about the students grades, what the student does that's good in class and their clubs, and what the student can do to imporove their proformance."

Rie noticed the approaching Mrs. Aoi before her husband did. She returned her cup to the ground and motionned to get Michio's attention.

The two stood to approach Misaki's mother. Michio signed and Rie nodded to show she had understood and repeated.

"I'm glad to see you are well."

"It's a pleasure to see you and your wife again Akuba-san," Akiko said with a pleasent smile that gave her a grace and confidence that her daughter did not share. "I trust that your daughter has been well?"

Mikaru wandered over slowly and nodded to Rie, smiling at her some. His casualness was very different to his wife's stiffness.

"I can't believe that they set it up like this, you would think that they would have done things differently, considering we're all very busy." Akiko was saying when Mikaru added in thoughtfully.

"Though the food is very good. Did you see the displays yet. It seems the clubs are very talented."

Sign sign sign. Sign sign sign in response. Turn back to Akiko.

"It's good to see you again, too. Our daughter was apparently unwell but she seems to have recovered."

Sign sign sign.

"The arrangements are poorly organized. The whole affair could have benefitted from better planning. The displays were indeed impressive. It is a shame that our dauther has not involved herself in the cultural clubs more but grades always come first."

"Hmm, I completely agree with that. You're daughter at least keeps her grades up, unlike our daughter. Her head is always into her drawings, and she never thinks about her future. It's a shame that my daughter offened your daughter some how. But at least Misaki won't be bringing down your daughter anymore." Akiko commented. "Have you decided on where she's going to go to school? If not I know of some professors that would be very interested in her grades."

Mikaru seemed to sigh here and there adding in quietly, "We were glad that Maeko was keeping an eye on Misaki. Our daughter seems to bring trouble along with her at times."

"They had a disagreement?" Rie asked as she signed the conversation to her husband. "We had not heard. But young girls do quarrel from time to time. I'm sure that-" She stopped. Michio had started talking.

"We had not recived news of this. It is unfortunate."

Sign sign sign.

"She had not decided on an area of study when we last spoke, we believe that she wanted to decide what to study before deciding where to study it." Sign sign. "She has also been insisting on working to pay her school fees after Nanakamado herself. I am concerned that it will limit her choices. She can be a stubborn girl."

"Her stubborness is a good thing though," Mikaru commented and blinked. "She didn't mention it? Tomako, our younger son mentioned it, but Misaki won't explain what happened. But you're right, they do fight from time to time. I'm sure they'll make up eventually."

Akiko nodded, "I'd be happy to talk to her about what sort of college she could go to."

Akiko nodded her head and exused herself to get a bit more to drink. Mikaru sighed some and rubbed his neck. "Pardon my wife. She's very confident in her actions, it's hard for me to get in a word edgewise."

He looked thoughtful, "Ah...that reminds me. Misaki mentioned to me in passing that Maeko was dating a third year boy named Satou-san. Have you met him yet? I know that name sounds familar but I"m not sure where..."

Rie seemed a little shocked by that, but signed it on anyway while she tried to remember where she had heard that name before. Michio shook his head before he answered.

"I've heard nothing about that. She must be mistaken. Rumours about tghings like that are very common at these ages, after all."

"True, but she seemed very adament about it," He looked a bit concerned. "I also heard through Tomako that both Misaki and Maeko are in a new sub club of this Anti-bullying club. It seems like a good thing for them to be in."

He glanced around, "Ah have you met the new gym teacher by chance?"

"I know, I never thought Misaki could seriously be on her own outside the house. She's been trying to keep away from how her mother has groomed her, I always thought that Maeko could be a good influence on her. Hopefully help her focus more." He smiled kindly then nodded.

"I suppose so, yes, Maeko seems like the sort of girl that would tell you if something were happening."

Mikaru nodded, "Yes, I know what you mean. It wasn't that long ago that I was holding Misaki when she was very small. Her mother always had trouble with that. Misaki would cry a lot for her and I don't think she could take the crying."

He paused and looked some what sheepish, "Eh...I'm sorry." Pause, "I always thought that Misaki was maturing because of Maeko's influence. She always seemed like a confident person. Misaki always speaks of her. I swear she would probably want her as a sister if possible."

"My daughter stopped crying quickly." Michio nodded as Rie said this. "So that was never much of a problem.

They didn't mention the obvious, that it wouldn't really have made much of a difference to him anyway.

"Strange, I was always told she was quiet. It doesn't matter a great deal, I am glad they are such good friends even if they are currently not getting along so well. Are your other children well? The two of you must have a lot of meetings to attend tonight."

Mikaru smiled gently, "I wish that Misaki had. She had a powerful set of lungs when she was little. How did you calm her down?"

"Misaki or Maeko? When I had the pleasure of seeing her, she was talking to Misaki about things, although Misaki always was the one rambling, then she'd go quiet and look embaressed." He blushed some, "Heh, must have got that from me. I used to ramble a lot when I was younger."
