WHO: Keiichi & Shiori
WHAT: Excursion to Noodle Alley
WHERE: Meeting outside school, then (duh) Noodle Alley
WHEN: Thursday, after school.
WHY: Funs?

Sitting on one of the benches lining the walkway leading up to the school's front door was Keiichi, swinging his legs absent-mindedly. He was, honestly, quite bored.

And when bored, Keiichi enjoyed sampling the flavors of Noodle Alley. One minor problem: he had no one to go with. Keiichi could, of course, just go and pull up a seat at the counter, but where was the fun in that?

No, he needed company. The fairer gender would be preferred, but really, anyone would do. At least that way there would be conversation.

"You are your hardest critic. I'm sure you're great at it," Shiori beamed. "And cooking can take you a lot of places too. Maybe you could start your own restaurant? I bet it would be insanely popular if you did make it! But then, I think you'd be successful wherever you go, Keiichi. You just gotta- ooh, I think that's our food!"

She straightened, trying to peer into the bowls even as the waiter approached their table just to be sure it was their food. Letting out an excited, "Oh, it is, it is!" she looked away from the food to Keiichi.

"I'm really excited!" she said, even as the waiter placed the bowls of miso and sukiyaki in front of her and Keiichi respectively. Snapping the chopsticks apart, she exclaimed a quick "Idatakimasu!" before stirring the spicy bean paste into the broth and noodles. Maneuvering her chopsticks to pick up the noodles, she tucked her hair behind her ear before bring the bowl closer so she could scoop some of the noodles into her mouth without making a mess out of everything. Chewing momentarily before swallowing, she looked up at Keiichi.

"It's good!" she reported with a broad smile. "How's yours?"

He was grateful the food arrived. The future always scared Keiichi, and besides, he had time to worry about it.

Keiichi was less quick to eat his ramen, stirring it with his chopsticks slowly, and regarding the long spoon served alongside the bowl carefully.

"Easy there," he teased. "The ramen'll still be there if you pause to take a breath. It's not good to eat spicy things so fast..."

Lowering his chopsticks, he grabbed a small portion of noodles, and placed them into his mouth. A thoughtful look came over his face as he chewed, tilting his head to the side.

"Very good. The noodles are just chewy enough. Maybe today I'll figure out what they use in the broth."

Her enthusiasm made him smile. Really, Shiori was turning out to be quite different than he'd imagined.

Taking another portion of noodles into her mouth, she began to eat the noodles and using her chopsticks to bring more to her mouth in earnest. Shiori felt like she hadn't ate all day - she wasn't even realizing how quickly she was eating until Keiichi brought it up. Pausing with noodles still dangling from her mouth and chopsticks, she quickly ate the rest her chopsticks held before chewing and swallowing.

"I'll be fine!" Shiori assured him. "I eat spicy food all the ti-"

A loud hiccup interrupted her, and with a blush she dropped the chopsticks into her bowl and brought her hand to her mouth. Maybe it had been awhile since she ate something this spicy, or her eating too fast was the cause of it. Or a combination of both, of course. Hiccuping quietly again, shoulders jolting slightly, she reached for a glass of water and took a sip from it. Waiting a moment, she took another before putting the glass back down and picking her chopsticks back up.

"Eheh.." she laughed nervously, stirring her noodles again. "If you do figure it out, you should make it at the next cooking club. I'll chip in with the ingredients!"

Keiichi couldn't help but chuckle. "Easy, easy." He called over to the waiter for more water, and smiled at his classmate. "That's why I try to avoid spicy ramen."

He ate his own meal more slowly, using the spoon to ladle some broth into his mouth. Still not quite there on everything in it. He'd have to do some experimentation. "Food is an art," he continued. "You don't rush through a museum of art when you go visit, nor should you wolf down your food in one gulp."

Sure, he was a bit more extreme about his cooking and cuisine in general than most, but that was to be expected considering that it would, ideally, be his life.

"Our next club meeting is actually scheduled for brownies, if I remember correctly," Keiichi recalled. "And don't worry about chipping in. The school funds our ingredients. Good thing, too, considering how poorly things usually go with some of the students..."

"Thanks," Shiori said, relieved that she wouldn't have to conserve the water. As much as she ate spicy foods, even she couldn't eat a bowl of spicy miso without some water. She paused from her stirring when he spoke again.

"Spicy food to me is like chocolate is for other people - you want to savor it, but you can't help but eat it as quickly as you can," Shiori said, smiling. "Still, though, I could see where you're coming from. I'd be so mad if someone cruised through my gallery without really looking at the pictures!"

Scooping up some more noodles, though not as much as she had been taking before, she began to eat the noodles slower. By doing so, the various spices really became apparent. Though it was still just as good, the flavor seemed to burn as she chewed it and she had to take another drink of water. Definitely glad she had changed out of her uniform, for the heat of the miso only seemed to add the temperature of the room, she brushed her hair away from her face once again.

"Ah, that sounds like it'd be fun! Making brownies, I mean - not having people mess up the recipes," Shiori mused. "Still, though, it must suck to have to make the basics at the club when you could be figuring out the recipe for the sukiyaki or some other complex recipe."

He could sympathize on the chocolate bit. He did enjoy sweets, quite a bit, actually.

The noodles were mostly forgotten as he spoke to her. Ramen was something he could have anytime. Company was not.

The spiciness of her meal made it look like she was blushing, and he chuckled lightly. Kind of cute, really.

"I don't mind, Shiori," Keiichi replied, finally. "I like teaching and helping people cook as much as I like cooking myself."

"You should be a cooking instructor then!" Shiori said, as though this were a brilliant idea that needed to be done. "Man, that'd be fun too, I bet..." Giggling, she added, "Hee, I'm glad I can get help from you now, while you aren't charging."

Finishing the noodles left in the bowl, she jumped slightly when she felt her phone vibrate from inside her bag. Reaching down for it, she flipped open the phone and saw it was a warning that her battery was low. About to tuck it back inside her bag, her eyes widened when she saw what time it is.

"Oh, man!" she exclaimed, shoving her phone back into her bag and sliding out of the booth. "It's so late! I'm sorry, Keiichi, but I really need to go!"

Digging money out of her bag, she slapped it onto the table. Bowing lowly to Keiichi, she quickly straightened.

"I'm sorry!" she said again. "Thank you for inviting me to come along. We should do this again!"

And then, after a moment's hesitation, she grabbed him into a quick hug before stepping away and, with a wave, running down the aisle towards the exit.
