Who: Toshimi and Tom
What: Breaking and entering, V2
Where: Toshimi's room
When: Presumably sometime after the meeting, in the evening
Why: Because Tom has a habit of breaking into people's rooms.

Toshimi was having just an average night. Well, basically average. Without gym or baseball to burn off extra energy, she'd been a little antsy, but acknowledging this would be admitting that something had changed since Aomori's death. He'd only been a teacher, after all. So, after school, she took the train back to the dorms just as she usually would. Just as usual, she put her schoolbag back in her room and caught the tail end of whatever was on television in the dorm lounge and then went back to her room. She finished her homework, as usual. She re-read things that she didn't understand the first time and went back over her class notes to make sure they made sense, as usual. She went to the dorm kitchen to heat up her usual dinner (instant ramen), as usual, and ate it as she usually did on one of the couches in the dorm lounge. After that, she went back to her room and opened the door, just as usual---

Except that someone was already IN the room. Most of the dorm rooms, including hers, were singles, and she hadn't been expecting anyone, so even seeing somebody there was enough of a shock. Moreover, it was Sagaki-senpai. While it was better than a stranger in her room, it still left some rather important questions unanswered. Immediately Toshimi's mind started racing with them: in what, exactly, was he interested that was in her room? Was he conducting an investigation, and did that make her the subject? Was he stealing what few possessions she had, and why would he want any of them? Or (even worse) was he there to get a peek through her underwear drawer!? She stood for a long moment with an uncharacteristically dumbfounded expression on her face, trying to come up with a less terrifying explanation.

"S-sagaki-senpai," she finally managed to stutter. "Just...what exactly are you doing here?" Toshimi wasn't entirely sure if she wanted to know the answer.

That was Thomas' problem. FOr him it never turned into an investigation, it was always an investigation.

He began pacing at the edge of the room. He continued to not notice that Toshi wante dhim to go.

"Do you know Ishino well? I never really payed attention in her class, I wish I had now."

Toshimi shook her head, "No, I don't really speak to her outside of class. Since Nanakamado keeps her on the payroll, she must teach English well enough that most of her students can pass their college entrance exams...and, I heard that she was pretty close to..." The name 'Aomori-sensei' would not form in her mouth, for some reason. "Well, I'm sure you've heard, too." If Toshimi spoke fluent English, she reasoned, she probably wouldn't pay much attention in English class either. She found herself vaguely wondering if it was true what they said about the English for exams being unintelligible to Americans. "I don't even know where she studied or anything," she voiced.

Toshimi walked over to her dresser and picked up a spare hairclip. Sitting back down on her bed, she watched Tom pace the room as she clicked the hairclip open and closed repeatedly. She'd given him plenty of opportunity to leave, so he must have been in there because he wanted to stay for some reason. But all he was doing was pacing and talking about the case. He seemed to be miles ahead of her in both information and analysis of the case, and didn't seem to be the collaboration type. Toshimi could not fathom the reason why he still wanted her company. "You seem to have a solid grip on the case, Sagaki-senpai," she commented. "Well, more solid than anyone else, at this point."

Tom nodded to her comment.

"I am, I suppose I should start staking out Ishino, and see what she's been up to."

Tom seemed to think for a moment, making no move to leave, then something occurred to him.

"Oh, do you need to try working with the knives? I have a target in my room."

Tom looked around Toshi's dorm room for a moment.

"There isn't much space to practice in here, but we can't really do it outside or on the roof."

He scratched his head in thought.

"I wonder if we could try entering Paradise..."

"Uh...huh..." The idea of anyone 'staking out' anyone else was somewhat unsettling to Toshimi. "I'll leave it to you, then," she nodded.

Toshimi glanced at the knives, setting the spare hairclip she'd been toying with down. "A target?" This piqued her curiosity; her usual targets were either strike zones or shadows, and hitting an actual bullseye sounded like it would be a worthwhile skill. She joined Tom in looking around the room. Was it a safe assumption that his room was the same size? "Where do you usually use it, Sagaki-senpai?" she asked.

She placed a hand on her chin, thinking. "Nnn..." Paradise would have been the place where it would be least likely they'd be seen, but entering with just two people would probably be a mistake. Shadows attacked in groups, and Toshi didn't know how many could sneak up on them at once. Tom might have been the type to raid Paradise on his own (she thought of when they encountered him while they were trying to rescue Toru), but Toshimi valued her life too much to risk it for no real reason. Still, she didn't want to be contrary, and it wasn't like she had any better ideas. "I don't know..." she said, inwardly dismayed at what she was saying. "Maybe."

Tom nodded when she asked about the target.

"It's a wooden board, I put a foam backing on it. It's seen better days but should hold up for now.

Being the first floor, I usually just wait until late at night and slip out my window. Still not much space to practice in.

I thought about breaking into one of the gyms maybe or going over to the baseball diamond when it's not in use. Setting up tha target at the... oh what is it? The Home plate?"

Tom shrugged. The Paradise option had risks, and he wasn't willing to deal with them until he had a group brave enough to try it under controlled circumstances. He wasn't entirely sure that Toshi was someone who would volunteer for something like that.

"Ah, so you made it yourself?" she said. "That's pretty resourceful..."

Toshimi stared outside her own window, decisively not on the first floor. Climbing out the window was an impossibility here--how, exactly, had Tom gotten in? She couldn't exactly replace any stolen items, so Toshimi was almost always careful to lock the door. For a long, silent moment she considered asking him, but decided against it. She didn't want to seem ungrateful.

"That's right, home plate," she nodded with a very tiny hint of a laugh in her voice. As she remembered, 'home plate' was an English expression. How was it that Tom could remember that much about crime and murder, but not even the most basic fact about baseball? She shook her head, focusing on more serious matters. "But, if somebody saw us sneaking around the school at night..." she trailed off. There really wasn't any safe explanation for that. "There have been a lot of people hanging around there lately." She sighed, then smiled. "That's the problem with cities, I guess."

Tom's brow furrowed.

"Well I can keep us from being seen.

But now I'm curious, who's been hanging around the baseball field? Obviously people who don't belong there."

Tom seemed to think there was something suspicious was going on with the people at the baseball diamond.

"Can you...?" asked Toshimi. "If you think it'll work..."

She smiled and shook her head. "Just the same people who don't belong there as always. You know. Police, news reporters. The kind of people who have been hanging around the rest of the school lately. They've been on the sports fields, too."

"I guess if we ran into a reporter, you could probably get rid of them, but a police officer wouldn't be so easy. And if it was someone from the school, we'd probably never hear the end of it..." She paused. "But it's possible that we won't run into anybody, I suppose."

Tom put his hands in his pockets and shrugged.

"Most of stealth is just being where they won't look."

He scratched his head and got a thoughtful look on his face.

"And you know, if we do run across a cop we can always try and get information on the ace."

Toshimi considered Tom's statement for a moment, and was ready to dismiss it, but he was in her room. He was pretty much the authority on sneaking around. She shrugged back at him.

"The ace...?" she repeated. "You mean...if we ran into the police, you would ask them about...the murderer?" She was keeping the incredulity out of her voice and maintaining a pleasant tone, but at the same time, Toshimi played the scene out in her mind. At best, it ended with an unpleasant confrontation, and at worst...Toshimi wondered if it would be worth the trouble of saying anything more.

She turned her head away, trying to think. Wasn't there something she could say? She remembered, and blurted out, "I thought you didn't trust the police." She immediately covered her mouth. She hadn't meant to be contradictory. "Sorry," she mumbled.

Tom looked away for a moment.

"I don't, nor do I especially like them, but they have had actual access to the case and plenty of modern equipment.
They can give us more answers then we have and every piece of information would be useful."

He brushed himself off and turned toward th door.

"So are you ready to go?"
