WHO: Renju, Tom, Kozue, and any others who choose to drop in.
WHAT: Research.
WHERE: Nanakamado library.
WHEN: Saturday after school.
WHY: Because Renju needs to stay sane somehow.

Work was Renju's usual coping mechanism when things went outside the ordinary. Denied it, she'd go crazy. She knew this from experience--leaving school last term was probably the worst thing she could have done. Lack of work led to boredom led to dwelling on things best not dwelled on.

But today she couldn't concentrate... or rather, she could only concentrate on all the wrong things. The other world--or whatever "Paradise" was--and the strange behavior of the others who apparently knew about it had crowded everything else from her head. And as if that weren't bad enough, even she couldn't help but notice all the gossip surrounding the abrupt end to the school trip. Too many fragments, and nothing she could get from them.

She retreated deeper into her pile of books, trying to shut it out. The book on Western mythology she was flipping through right now wasn't really much help in finding the... whatever it was that had emerged back at the museum, but damned if she wasn't going to try anyway.

Despite the recent events, Tom continued his usual journey to the Library. He carried his usual stack of books as he spotted Renju in the stacks. Her choice of reading material was what caught his attention.

He worried that perhaps his cover story. He moved down the aisle toward Renju. Slightly concerned, he didn't bother with trying to feign being friendly.

"Sonozaki-san... that's a large stack of reading material."

Startled, Renju nearly dropped her book and jerked her head up to see who had spoken.

Sagaki-senpai. Of all the people she could've run into here...

Now that she was less shaken up than she had been on the trip and more in her element, it was easier to brush him off, and that was her first instinct. But he had been in that group with Satou-senpai and Ito-san, which, if her assumptions were right, meant that he knew, too, and lied to her to send her away.

In the end, she chose to take a middle route. "I take my studying seriously," she answered neutrally. She didn't bother feigning friendliness, either--but then, trying to do so would be more suspicious than not. She adjusted her glasses and settled the book back on the table.

Tom slipped into a nearby chair, and looked over at Renju. He set his own stack of books down, Tom's stack contained a book on relationships, one on police codes.

"I do too..." Tom's voice drifted off as he saw a book in her stack, he let out a quick laugh as he slipped a copy of "The Odyssey" from the stack.

Adjusting her blouse and fixing her tie, Kozue made her way out of the back of the library. The section on Philosophy, the 100's, was towards the very back, and usually particularly dead. Empty, and therefore very convenient spot to fool around on the down low while still at school. And it was educational, too. Well. At least, if she had to get a book, she could pick one up on the way out. And she sometimes managed to pick up something about Western Philosophy - like there were a lot of books about this guy called Descartes. Whoever he was.

The boy - a member of the basketball team who was surprisingly short, given his chosen sport - had left a few minutes ago, at Kozue's insistence. Quietly and casually slip out separately, yanno. She was on her way out, now, having reapplied the small amount of makeup she could get away with, and re-tidied her uniform.

When she caught sight of Sagaki, and the short second year who'd walked in on their abortive attempt at a meeting on the camping trip, she veered off of her exit course almost without thinking about it. Look, people! She walked over, raising a hand to wave delicately. "Doing some research, Sagaki-sempai? Or are you busy studying?"

Pry, pry, pry.

Renju's carefully neutral expression slipped into a slight frown as Tom settled in near her. She didn't know anything about the book he'd taken, but was it meant to be a hint? Had Ito-san told him about meeting her in Paradise? Was he trying to signal that he knew?

If she thought about this for too long, it was going to turn into a convoluted train of "I know that you know that I know..." and that was something Renju didn't particularly care to deal with.

"So I've heard." She looked back up, seeing... someone she didn't recognize. No, wait, she'd been in that group in the woods, too, hadn't she? There were too many people there for her to really remember too clearly, and she'd had other things on her mind.
