Let us discuss for a moment.
Who: Tom and Keiichi
What: Tom asks for some answers
Where: An unused part of the boys dorm
When: Late in the evening
Why: Tom = stalker, seriously

Thomas waited. He was used to waiting after all. He'd temporarily put a hold on looking into Sato's death to figure out what ever Paradise is, and whether both investigations are connected. What Thomas needed now was someone who could tell him about what the Persona Users had found when they went into Paradise the first time, so he could compare their experiences to his own observations.

Ito seemed like the most level headed, the most rational, and hopefully the most likely to give him further answers.  He'd contemplated simply grabbing the young boy and pulling into a spot where they wouldn't be noticed, but then there would be a whole commotion. Instead Thomas opted to wait nearby the kitchen.

When Keiichi finally showed Tom waved him over into the more private spot he'd found for their discussion.

"It is odd that the persona appear to be related to various mythologies from around the world."

Tom moved back toward the chairs, and sat down again.

"Agreed, it doesn't explain why the monsters."

He ran his fingers through his hair and let out a breath.

"And no, it doesn't follow the rules of the real world, that doesn't mean it lacks rules of it's own. Figuring out those rules, and understanding paradise will be what we need to anticipate what it'll throw at us.

I've begun looking into some of the stories that sound similar to the paradise rumor. A set of gates in the U.S. that supposedly lead to the various levels of hell, a tv stations in a small town that can only work at a certain time of day under certain weather conditions, A tunnel in Sibera that leads to another world.

It'll take me some time to narrow down the lists to find what fits and what doesn't. Nothing about Paradise though which suggests that A.) It's a recent phenomenon, and B.) It's a local one."

"There's a bunch of things we don't understand," Keiichi agreed. "Right now, our biggest problem isn't what the place is, or what happens to people when they get there. To me, the real question is HOW they get there."

The other stuff was important, possibly to figure out those things. But at the end of the day...

"I just want to know what's going on. I'm not a detective. I'm a guy who likes to cook and is in way over his head."

"That was the other thing I was hoping you could answer. Has anyone questioned Oubai or Ishinomori about how they found themselves in Paradise?"

His eyes drifted up for a moment.

"I'd been working on the case of Kei Sato, that's what lead me to you. Oubai's disappearance sounds just like what happened to Sato. If your friends were aware of Paradise before they vanished, then we know they couldn't have walked in by accident. That almost confirms foul play.
That's three attacks, with only one ending up in murder. Once is a tragedy, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern."

Tom stood up and began walking rather quickly around the room.

"That means there's a serial killer in this school. One we *know* the police can't track down, there would be no way for them to confirm a death if it was caused by Paradise.

Now I know I need to get the police report on Sato. If they can't find a cause of death then we know he was killed by Paradise."

He turned to look at Keiichi.

"If all this is true, then we are the only people who can stop the murders. And I would lay good odds that our killer is a Persona user."

"..."

It wasn't necessarily the "I don't believe you" sort of ellipsis, but it was a surprised one. Murder hadn't exactly been Keiichi's first thought when it came to the recent series of debacles. It still, if he had to be brutally honest, wasn't. Sure, the situation Sagaki was describing COULD be due to a serial murderer, but...

"You know, you're talking like you're out of a video game." Keiichi didn't smile, but he offered a shrug of his shoulders. "I can't deny anything that you're saying. But, at the same time, it all sounds a little bit...over the top. There is one thing I do agree with you on at this point in time: we ARE the only people who can stop whatever the Hell's going on. The rest of it I'm iffy on, though."

Understatement, that, but really, this whole thing made no sense to begin with.

"That's because I spent last night running around inside a video game."

Tom's usual tone made it very hard to tell if he was trying for a witty reply, or merely saying the obvious.

"And if you think this is over the top do I need to point to the bruises you received from your monster opponents tentacles because you used the Indian volcano god that came from your head to light it on fire?"

Tom paused, he let out a breath. He moved back to the chairs and sat down across from Keiichi, fixing him with a stare.

"You're strong, you're smart, and you have a good head on your shoulders. Despite a complete lack of training, you've managed to pull through this situation.

And even though you didn't ask to be put here, you know exactly what your allies should be focusing on.

In a dangerous situation you've shown courage, not just to take hits, but to stand up and do the right thing, and regardless of anything else, that is the most important thing a human being can do.

In all other things you are completely spineless and afraid, which is something that I don't have the luxury of indulging right now."

He leaned back in the chair, again resting his hand on his chin.

"Everything we have is speculation though. What we know is that something is taking people into Paradise against the will, and in at least one case..."

Tom sat up straight again.

"THAT'S IT! The victim is gone for two weeks, during which people reported seeing the victim in public acting strangely.

If the victim is pulled into Paradise, and their shadow manifests. What if it's their Shadow who is running around while they are trapped in Paradise?
That may give us a way of knowing when someone is attacked, and serves to further tie Kei Sato to murder by Paradise."

"You," the young man pronounced, drawing himself up to his full height, "have considerable nerve to know me for two days and tell me what I am and am not in this world."

Spineless was one Hell of an adjective to use for a man who'd stared down the son of a noted Yakuza family in the middle of the night.

Really, Keiichi wasn't going to vocalize this particular thought...but if Thomas knew so damned much, if everything he said was true...wouldn't that make him a spectacular candidate to be the serial killer he was so very obsessed with?

Something Ito would file away for future reference.

"Again, if you notice...I have not once said you're wrong about anything you've told me. Is some of it far-fetched, yeah, but as you point out, so is the fact that I've got a volcano god in my head."

For a moment, he almost laughed, before shaking his head. "You know, you fit in pretty well with us. Because you have the same problem most of the group does. You're smart. You've got worthwhile things to say."

Dragging his tired body up out of the chair, he turns to leave, but braces himself against the wall. "You just don't seem to have any desire to present your thoughts in a way that doesn't piss people off. At any rate, we can discuss this later if you want to. It's late, I'm sore, and I need to go have a nice lay-down in bed for a few hours. Or a few dozen."

With that, he's on the move down the hall. Thomas Sagaki isn't the nicest or the most genteel of the group, but he does seem to speak his mind.

If nothing else, he appreciates that, even if the third year is a tad rough around the edges.

Thomas crossed his arms, and watched the other boy walk away. Ito had certainly earned a good nights rest.

Toms assessment of Ito had proved correct. Brave, but unsure of himself, smart, but misguided at times. A lot of potential.

And certainly they had made a great deal of progress. Tom had succeeded in connecting The murderer of Kei Sato to Paradise, and now understood that other world a great deal more.

The more Tom thought about it, the more he worried. He knew he didn't want to be didn't want to be a member of Team Persona, but people like Ito and Aoi, they were the kind of people who drew in others like moths to fire.

Tom was going to have to be very very careful here.
