Looking for Answers
Who: Thomas and Kouchisei
What: Questions, and likely the evading of answers
Where: Wherever Kouchisei might be found.
When: Late afternoon, Two days after everyone gathers for dinner.
Why: Because Thomas is paranoid, and kinda creepy.

It had taken Thomas two days of looking, watching, and listening to figure out where the best place to find Kouchisei Oubai was. By this point, there could be no doubt that the boy would want to be laying low, He'd already been confronted by the police, and given the gossip hounds in the school, he'd likely been questioned by every other student who saw him since he re-appeared..

In the end that meant very little to Thomas. Idle curiosity of the masses would be satisfied by an answer, any answer really. And if they didn't find it suitable, they would make one up. But he didn't buy it. According to all the information he could get his hands on, scarce though it was, the Sato boy vanished for two weeks. When he reappeared he was dead, and somewhat recently Oubai disappeared as well. What tied the two together was the story circulating amongst those same gossip hounds that both boys had allegedly been seen at school during the time of the disappearence. And both had been acting strange.

There was no evidence to suggest the two incidents were connected, And again it could be one of those made up answers, but there was only one way to know for sure, and right now the only lead Thomas had to go on was this. Either he needed to confirm that the stories, as parallel as they seem, were unconnected, or Oubai was, in truth, kidnapped. And unlike Sato escaped from his captor. Which would provide Thomas with plenty of new information to go on.

And so he found himself waiting for the chance to talk to Kouchisei, alone. And he was willing to wait for as long as he needed to.

Misaki smiled and waved at Kouchisei then paused, "You know...I could give him the message for you, I mean he knows me and he doesn't really like to talk to people that he doesn't know, Sagaki-sempai. I'm sure you understand that."

She was dragging her heels just a bit to slow him down.

"Oh it's not a message. I was asked to bring Ouba-san to room 22C. I wasn't told why, but... I didn't want to get in trouble....umm.. again."

He nodded to her and waved a hand to Kou.

"OUBAI-SAN! can I talk to you for a sec?"

Kouchisei had been standing at his locker; anybody with a good eye would see him return a letter to an envelope, which was then put inside his black schoolbag. He looked befuddled, and slung the bag over his shoulder. Who would write him a love letter? He'd needed to squint to read such tiny writing.

It didn't seem like Kiriko's style. Misaki would be more direct - but he wasn't interested in aggressive girls.

"Hmm."

"OUBAI-SAN!"

Confronted by a boy calling his name, he shook his head, a surprised expression on his face as he cleared his thoughts. He caught sight of an older male standing left of the stairs, by the announcement board. He sighed and stayed motionless, willing to talk.

Thomas walked over to the obviously wear Kou with a warm smile.

"Oubai-san... heh... I was asked to come get you, and bring you to room 22-C. They didn't tell me why."

He looked back and fourth between Kou and Misaki.

"Aoi-san agreed to join us in the escort. It shouldn't take more then a minute or two."

Misaki beamed at Kouchisei and hurried over to grab him tightly by the arm, "But before we go, Sagaki-sempai, there's something I forgot to give Oubai-sempai. I was supposed to give it to him earlier. I'll be right back with him."

She pulled Kou, not hard, but just enough that he would get the message that it wasn't just Misaki fooling around. She lead him down the stairs just far enough to lower her voice so Thomas couldn't here.

"Firstly I do have something to give you, it's an I'm sorry lunch for...how I was acting at your ryotori. I really didn't mean to seem rude about it, I hope you can forgive me for being not my self. I haven't been feeling right lately. It's...odd, I've been feeling kind of ill. So I didn't mean to come off as rude to you Oubai sempai." She smiled genuinely at him. Then grew serious, "The second thing is, don't go with Sagaki-sempai. I don't trust him, and why would a teacher ask to meet you in room 22-C? That's the music room. No one's in there except for a few periods during the day. I don't trust him Oubai-sempai. He might be a news hound or something. Becareful."

Misaki's face was genuniely concerned, more so then Kou probably could have thought she could show.

"Get off me!"

Grabbed so suddenly, Kouchisei's eyes widened, his heart beat faster, and his skin went flush. He didn't like being grabbed - it was rude and violated his personal space, which he would now protect by wrapping his arms around himself before he followed Misaki halfway down the stairs. People went down and up, and they waited till there was a quiet time to talk. Then Misaki brought something out under his nose.

A lunch? He shook his head.

"Give it to Reizo-san. He needs it more than I do." He didn't look at Tom. "Thanks for the warning, but I am capable of handling him."

He turned and left, and went back to Thomas.

"Sorry for the wait. Shall we go?"

Thomas fingers clenched when Kou shouted, and unconscious gesture on his part at seeing one person lash out at someone else.

He quickly calmed, and looked away as the two went down the stairs.

When Kouchisei returned, he smiled a bit to indicate there was no need for apologies, then nodded an affirmative toward leaving.

He kept the pace slow, and peaked back over his shoulder to see if Misaki would follow. She did offer to go with them, and he could just as easily question them together as separately.

He looked to Kouchisei and let out a breath.

"So all this stuff that's going on... pretty crazy huh?"

Misaki watched carefully, she wasn't sure if she could follow, but it seemed like a bad idea. She looked down at the lunch and felt something drop in her stomach. He hated her now, didn't he...

Without looking back she headed down the stairs saying softly to herself, "I was just trying to help you out Oubai-sempai."

Kouchisei didn't want Misaki there. He could only control himself; he couldn't tell her what to say, or how to move her body, if his sempai was in the room. Besides, she was around him a lot - they all were - and it made him feel strange.

Then Sagaki-sempai talked and made himself suspect. That was what he wanted to talk about? He would pass a text on later, marking Sagaki as someone who was asking questions.

The pace they walked was nice, and when he reached the class he stopped and looked at Sagaki.

"Thanks. You can go now."

Tom nodded.

"I should at least step in and confirm that I have discharged my duties."

He opened the door for Koucheisei to step through, then immediately followed, as Kou would no doubt realize the room was empty once he was fully inside. In fact, it wasn't just vacant of people, but completely out of the way, at the end of a dead ended hall.
Once both of them where within the room, Tom pulled the door close, and thumbed the lock. And remained there blocking the exit.

If Kouchisei thought Tom was "someone who was asking questions" Before they got into the room, he would likely be bowled over by what would happen next.

He'd locked the goddamn door.

Kouchisei was surprised. Confronted by Segaki in an empty classroom - he'd thought it strange this part of the hall was empty, plus there wasn't a teacher in sight - he could feel his heart beat frantically inside his chest.

"What?!"

The happy facade dropped, but he splayed out his arms to either side, palms toward the floor in the most non threatening stance he could manage.

"I'm just looking for answers. I wanted to do it in an out of the wya room, so you could answer truthfully without someone over hearing who shouldn't. I will not harm you, and I will try to make this as brief as possible.

I'm investigating the murder of Sato Kei. Your disappearance a short time ago was almost the same as his, right down to people having reported seeing both of you while you were supposed to be gone.

The facts suggest you were the victim. The only difference between you and Sato is that you're still alive, suggesting that you got away."

He lowered his arms and let out a breath.

"Oubai-san. I need to know what happened to you, I want to help, and make sure no one else is hurt."

Kouchisei would feel safer, his pulse slowing and his skin cool, if his sempai wasn't blocking the door. Except his heartbeat was increasing exponentially. His eyes flickered around the room, and then focused on Tom and wouldn't leave.

"The only difference is I ran away from home." He pushed his glasses up. "Now please move."

He looked Kou over, and carefully reached up behind him to the lock, but didn't move it.

"It seems a startling coincidence. Why did you run away from home?
You can be assured that your answers will not leave this room, which is why I chose it, so you could answer truthfully without feeling embarrassed."

Kou's tone was scathing. "Hmn. I'd have thought it obvious. People are talking about me, aren't they? Calling me a poor thing because mom died. That is your only... clue."

Thomas took a step forward, seeing as taking a step back wuld be impossible. He looked away from Kou, toward the floor.

"You're mother left you..."

He blinked and thumbed the door lock.

Blinking, Kouchisei thought it was best not to report this incident to a teacher. They were alone and he'd only recently come back to school. Instead, he noted to send Kiriko a text message. He'd have to ask her not to do anything stupid - he didn't need the attention, as disappearing had brought him enough. But she was better to tell this to than Reizo or Misaki.

And why would he tell Reizo anything?

"Thank you, Sagaki-san."
