Maeko was waiting. It wasn't really Kanaye's fault she was waiting. He was likely busy right now and she had just decided on the spot that since she was done with work and Seiko was busy teaching Toru ballet or something she would send him a text message on the chance that he was free.

Hey, probably need to talk. Want to meet up? Am near the crossing near your house.

She checked her phone again despite it only being about 20 seconds since she sent the message, halfway through a convenience store anpan as she sat on the wall waiting. She was very easily within walking distance of his house but no way was she going there again right now.

	"Alright then." Suddenly, Kanaye smiled at Maeko. "Well, since we're here, do you want to go to lunch or something? Can I take you out to dinner, maybe? Somewhere fancy, if you want? Well, if he had been mad he wasn't anymore. That was kind of disappointing.

"I already ate." Maeko said, holding up the empty anpan packet. It may have been a preemptive move to avoid being taken to eat, she was still struggling with the idea of things like that. She sighed, thinking. "Do you have the rest of the afternoon? We could see when train times are and go to the zoo. I went there was Seiko-chan a while ago, it was really great"

	"Now's fine. I don't have any errands today." Maeko said, smiling. It really was a rarity to have time that she wasn't using for anything else. She paused, trying to get her bearings, she wasn't as used to this part of the city as she was to the rest of it. "The station's this way, right?" She asked after a few seconds, pointing. Maeko almost said 'no' without thinking but- was that actually a compromise? Achieved without having to yell and stuff? She nodded cheerfully and darted off to the ticket machines, returning soon enough with two tickets.

"If we get this one I don't think we have to switch trains at all." She said, pointing to a train that was rolling into the station. She moved to the door but waited until she knew Kanaye was there to board.

	Kanaye nodded and smiled. IT had actually worked! He grinned. "That's good, Maeko! I'm glad. I want you to enjoy yourself as much as possible. If there's anything you want but can't afford, ask me. "I'll be fine." Maeko said, sitting down next to him. When the doors closed and the train started to move and it seemed a safe time to discuss things she gingerly placed her hand on top of Kanaye's. Whether Kanaye had noticed it or not, this had developed a meaning. When you used your hands as your first language, nearly every genture ended up developing a meaning. In this case it was 'hey, I'm going to talk about something weird now'.

"Hey, is everything ok again? Did things get any better after before?"

"I'm glad." Maeko said, smiling. "That was all kind of creepy."

"Everything's good on this side, I think. I've been talking to Seiko-chan and to Aoi- Misa-chan. Dad's less annoyed than usual, he's been working on a new project. I managed to convice my mother the school wasn't dangerous..."

She fidgetted a little, apparently decided not to continue, and smiled. "Everything's good!"

Maeko nodded, standing and leaving the train quickly. She really was glad everything was okay, though it always made her wonder what they even had in common other than problems and the ability to summon gods out of thier heads.

Well, as long as she had nothing better to talk about... (this, she convinced herself, as an improvement. Before with nothing else to talk about she'd just have not talked.)

"I don't think I ever really asked but, um, what kind of things do you like other than soccer?"

Kanaye was rather surprised. "Well, let me see..." He tried to figure out his interests. Besides "Maeko" and "soccer", there was "partying", "girls", and "magical head gods." "Well, I do like to go to parties, occasionally. Usually stuff like Kozue's birthday party, but with less shadows." He shrugged. "I also do some more high class stuff, but those are generally boring. What do you enjoy doing?"

Okay. So parties without shadows and 'high class stuff'. The last time Maeko has been to a party that didn't involve a shadow had been with Tamiko when she was ten. 'High class stuff' was probably something, whatever it was, that she'd only even potentially know of through Tamiko.

Dammit, why on earth was she comparing her boyfriend to a girl? That was about as weird as Tom was dumb.

"Um." She began, more caught off-guard by the question than she really should have been. "I like what I do with the school council - organizing events and stuff. And I like these cute flash games that have frogs and bunnies in them. Um, I collect stuffed animals - you saw those before, right? - and I used to be really great at origami but then I didn't do it for a while so I have to learn it again." She thought. "Sometimes I read manga but it's only when I've borrowed it from Misa-chan. And I guess I'm on the sewing club now, too. I'm going to see if I can figure out how to sew stuffed animals."

There was a pause while she decided whether or not to reveal a particularly embarassing peice of information. She decided in its favour and laughed. "And I used to be a huge Risette fan when she was really big. I'd wear my hair in those bunches she had to school every day." She bunched up her hair with both hands to demonstrate. "I must have looked kind of silly."

Kanaye nodded slowly. "Stuffed animals are awesome. I had a stuffed sheep when I was younger, it was huge! It was bigger then me! I've always wondered what happened to it..." He frowned briefly but shrugged. "That sounds amazing!"

Kanaye shook his head. "Not at all, you look cute like that. I've heard of Risette a bit, but haven't really seen her stuff. Is it any good?"

"Really? I could never get one of the bigger ones. My room's kind of small so I wouldn't really be able to put it anywhere." She thought. "Maybe you left it somewhere?"

She let go of her hair at that comment, managing not to get any more flustered than that through sheer willpower. After a few seconds she continued. "I dunno. I was never allowed to listen to her songs. I just liked her because everyone else did. And because Takahane didn't."
