wading in the low end of the diligence pool...
Who: Kozue, Kiriko, and Kouchisei! (K's UNITE. What.)
When: Saturday after school, during Club/Practice time
Where: Near the Tennis Courts - a water fountain.
What: Kozue is "practicing tennis". Really. Breaks are part of practice too.
Why: For the pure joy of random social interaction.

Kozue constantly thanked her lucky stars that the water fountain was just out of view of the tennis courts. Truly, just barely; she could see a corner of the green surface, but no players, no captains, and no gym teacher. And more importantly, they couldn't see her. So she could take her sweet time in having a drink, and getting her breath back. And then having another drink from the water fountain. Maybe thinking about doing her hair, or putting on a little makeup. Surely, the Gym Teacher wouldn't notice, right...?

She was leaning up against the water fountain, and even if her hair was a bit mussed (and in that icky ponytail that the captain insisted she wear), she looked good, and she knew it, too. Even if she hadn't joined the tennis club for the express purpose of the uniforms, well, that was about seventy-five percent of the reason she was staying there. I look good in white. And mini-skirts. She grinned a little, privately, and raised her wrist to check her watch. If she stayed here for oh, say, five more minutes, she could go back and only have to do two more drills - maybe three - before the bell rang and they were dismissed. It was an excellent plan. Then, she could go back to the dorm, take out the stupid ponytail, shower, and go out with her date -- and that was a better plan still.

Feeling proud of herself, she leaned down to take another sip of water from the fountain.

"Hey, Kondo-san."

Even if Kiriko had known that the curly-haired girl had been attempting to hide when she'd seen her slip away to one of the more reclusive water fountains, she probably wouldn't have approached any differently; the players on the court right now were doing a terrible job anyway, so why not cut across? The tall girl ignored the players' death glares as she approached the water fountain, waving once she saw the other girl come into view. Tucked beneath Kiriko's arm was a red folder, the kind with coloured tabs sticking out the end to give the impression of organization - though Kiriko was one of those types who actually used them.

"If I schedule a flower arranging club meeting for next week before the class trip, can you make it?" she asked once she cleared the courts and was near enough to the water fountain. The fact that that Kozue was busy taking a drink didn't seem to phase the tall girl. Before she continued, she frowned slightly. "Everyone is slacking off, we haven't had a meeting in ages - but, I guess people have been pretty busy."

"Oh, Ikeda-san, good afternoon," Kozue said, lifting her head up from the fountain, and using the back of her hand to wipe off just a little bit of excess water from her lower lip. It took her a moment to process the question, though mostly because she was wondering what exactly would bring Kiriko out onto the athletic fields. Surely not just to track her down and ask her about Flower Arranging Club - and what was that folder for? It made her look like a teacher or something.

But Kozue quickly directed her eyes upwards from the folder (it was impolite to stare at other people's things, after all) and to Kiriko's face. Which was definitely a bit of a journey upwards - her classmate was tall, and Kozue was... not. She thought for a moment, and then smiled slightly - it was a very practiced, polite smile, and it just barely didn't reach her eyes.

"If it's on Wednesday, I'll make sure to be there," she said, and paused, before continuing just a little more carefully. "I will see if I can excuse myself from Saturday Tennis practice, if that day works better for everyone else; I'm sure I can be spared for one day." Or many days; she was hardly the shining star of the team. Or even a mildly tarnished star - she ranked somewhere around "space dust" in the celestial hierarchy of tennis.

She was rather preoccupied with Kozue's hair as the smaller girl lifted her head up and stood straight before her, but tried not to look as though she was staring. It was impressive, in Kiriko's opinion - whoever did the dye job made it look so natural; she'd once considered asking where she'd got it done. But, keeping the curls in must be such hard work... She supposed Kozue must be pretty industrious when it came to appearance.

Kiriko returned her smile with one of her own. The expression did not linger - within moments she had flipped open the folder under her arm, clicked the pen wedged between the pages into life and scribbled something down. When she shut it again and tucked it back under her arm, she looked back to Kozue, canting her head.

"Is tennis practice where you always go when you can't make it?"
