School Trip, Day Two. (THE GREAT OUTDOORS)

Who: EVERYONE (npcs welcome)
What: Hiking, Meeting (Major Arcana Only), Setting up Tents, Cooking, MYSTERY FOOD X, King's Game, Sleepn (Possible bear-wrestling)
Where: IN A WOOD
When: Late May
Why: We like camping.

Aomori-sensei was waiting outside the hotel when everyone was awake, tapping a foot impatiently and looking at his watch. Ishino-sensei seemed somewhat nervous. He'd snapped at her when she'd tried to speak to him. He was always a lot more patient with the students and she'd hoped that finally going on this trip would improve his mood. She shook her head and smiled. It was her fault her colleague had to deal with all the reporters and so she had no right to complain when he was in a mood like this.

Tent arrangements:

Boys
3: Reizo/Toru/Akiyama
3: Kanaye/Yuuto/Kou
4: Gendou/Keiichi/Shin

Girls
3: Toshimi/Maeko/Shiori
3: Kojima/Renju/Mitsuko
4: Kiriko/Emi/Masami
4: Noriko/Misaki/Tori/Kozue

Reizo's nerd brigade

The yakuza boy frowned down at the paper he’d gotten earlier. It listed tent assignments and bunkmates, and he was unsure of how to take his placement. It was either a blessing or a curse to be bunked up with the two biggest nerds of 1-B, but he was leaning towards the former. They’d both scare easily, and maybe he could do something to get back at the taller one for wanting to see his special bits in his creepy ass dungeon.

He hmphed aloud and went about collecting the supplies. 20 minutes later or so (he took time out to disappear in the woods for a cigarette break) he was walking back towards a corner spot he’d selected with a bundle of poles and tarp in hand and two nerds in tow behind him. Once he reached the edge of the woods where he intended to set up camp he dropped the supplies down unceremoniously and looked back at the two expectantly.

“Survive tonight and you two might earn some social points at school.”

Toru gave Reizo something that could hardly be considered a glare on any standards; his heart was barely in it, for the most part.

"You're making us do all this?" He nudged the tent supplies with one foot. "Don't you think this job is more your line of work? I mean, we're just two weak nerds, right? I'm surprised you have faith in our ability to lift these..." His lack of enthusiasm for the whole trip and situation was quite apparent. Just his luck to get stuck in a tent with Reizo.

"And what do you mean by 'survive tonight?' Are you planning something?" This was matched with a look from Toru that may have at one point been intended as defiance, but was now something entirely pathetic. He looked over to Kiyoshi, hoping his classmate would have some kind of objection, too.

Kiyoshi was tired. He'd missed lunch, he'd spent two hours lost in the woods, he'd been chased by a bear, and he was pretty sure that he was having an allergic reaction to something he'd brushed up against in the forest. This is the stage where civility and decorum start to fall away, where men show what they're really made of without the stability of everyday life to hold them back.

Kiyoshi, being Kiyoshi, gave a submissive little half-nod and gathered up the poles. The thought of forming some kind of outcast alliance with Toru flitted through his mind, but he pushed it aside; it wouldn't reflect well on him to complain too much, and he was too tired to start what would probably be a losing battle with Reizo. Instead, he started sorting through the - stakes? supports? foundation? - poles, then realized that he didn't even know what he was looking at. "I, uh, don't really know how to set up a tent," he admitted, pretty much resigned to the fact that he was going to be stuck setting up at least half of it whether he knew how or not.

“No plan, I’m just worried you two might explode if forced to sleep on the ground,” he said, smile razor thin. He swept a look over the two boys and the supplies they were bound to struggle with and turned back towards the wood they were setting up beside. He disappeared behind a tree, peeked back around it to scan the grounds, and reemerged with a cigarette hanging out of a corner of his mouth. He’d taken care in selecting a patch of campsite that he could exploit to hide his cigarette habit, after all.

“Experience’s the best teacher,” he rumbled after a puff of smoke, eyes flicking here and there in search of a teacher until he seemed satisfied and he relaxed. He looked from boy to boy, lingered on Toru long enough to be uncomfortable, and then back down to the guts of the tent.

“You’d think two brainiac nerds would be able to put together a simple tent,” he mused distantly and leaned back against a tree.

"Just because I've never been camping before doesn't mean that it'll kill me," he retorted. It was a pretty weak retort, truth be told, because that smile of Reizo's could qualify as a murder weapon, and it had definitely just killed Toru's remaining confidence. He turned back to his fellow victim, who was confusedly going through the tent poles.

"I don't know either, but I suppose we're stuck in this situation..." Toru whispered to Kiyoshi, one-third resentful and two-thirds resigned. With this sentiment in mind, he began to set up the tent as best he could (which is to say not well at all), haphazardly sticking together poles, stakes, and tarps in a way that he dearly hoped would form a semblance of a tent. Every now and then, when Toru assumed Reizo wasn't looking, he'd glare at his back irritably, willing the yakuza boy to either fall down dead from a surprise lung cancer attack or have a sudden change of heart and help out for once. It unsurprisingly did not work, and the otaku uncomfortably noticed that his glares at Reizo were beginning to last just a little too long.

Kiyoshi nodded, setting down more stakes and adjusting the tarp while doing his level best to ignore Reizo. Toru was right - resistance was, at this point, futile. They weren't doing so badly with setting up the tent themselves, anyway. Well, except that it was a little lopsided. And they seemed to be two poles short. And he didn't think the roof was supposed to sag like that. And it looked like there'd be a gap in one side, which didn't exactly make him confident in the tent's ability to withstand, say, a bear attack.

On second thought, maybe this wasn't going so well.

"Does the tent look a little, uh, funny to you guys...?" he ventured, hesitant to break up the oddly one-sided staring contest that the other boys seemed to be engaged in.

Reizo turned around. Then Reizo frowned the frown of a man who, while no expert on the matter, was fairly certain that they were doing it wrong and a tent should definitely not look like that. The more he looked at it, the more he realized just how sad his tent mates were. Of course, he wouldn’t offer to help. Such menial work was below the tyrant Shirai Reizo. It definitely had nothing to do with the fact that he didn’t know how to do it either.

He stared at the tent, then looked across the way at the others. Some were already set up.

“Yes,” he answered authoritatively, arms folded across his broad chest and mouth turned down into a frown of distaste. He looked up, frowned deeper at his clearly visible cigarette smoke, then monkeyed up onto a branch of the tree that would hopefully support his weight. The foliage would help hide his smoke, right? Best cast scenario was no one seeing him. Worst cast scenario was somehow causing a forest fire.

“Maybe you two geniuses should go offer to do someone’s homework for awhile to get the stupid thing set up,” he sneered from up high in his tree.

A braver Toru would have yelled at Reizo to come down and help, or least made a snide remark to the effect of "Why don't you go threaten someone more successful into helping us, you big thug?" Toru was not brave at all. He simply watched his classmate ascend the tree (this he did not need to do, but rather felt compelled to by some part of himself that he dearly longed to kick) and returned to piecing together the tent, glaring the whole while.

He stood back to get a look at it when Kiyoshi pointed out that it was somewhat flawed. 'Somewhat' was inaccurate. Whatever the two nerds had created was far from a usable tent; even Toru, who'd never been camping or even this close to a tent before, could tell that it was very, very wrong. His suspicions were confirmed when he put a hand on the structure and it half-collapsed.

"Er... did this stuff come with instructions, by any chance?" he inquired, looking first over to Kiyoshi and then up to Reizo.
