School Trip, Day One. (Bus Ride, Eating Somewhere and Onsen)
Who: EVERYONE (npcs welcome)
What: Bus Ride, Eating, Onsen, Night 1 at hotel.
Where: ON A BUS
When: Late May
Why: We like trips.

Aomori-sensei was clearly not in the best of moods. He hadn't been for a while. Still, there was an air of excitement about the students who were assembling to get on the buses as they chose thier seat partners and talked. It wasn't every day that they went on a school trip. Very few of them had been paying much attention in the half-day of lessons before. Even Ishino-sensei looked the happiest she'd been since the incident.

She went through the lines of pupils, checking thier permission forms, while Aomori and Banno-sensei herded them into the coaches.

She had no retort for this, and so instead decided on an impatient click of the tongue crossed her arms over her chest. It wasn't that he had made a good point, but she knew a futile argument when she saw one.

Her eyes widened at his response. What?! Did she really seem like a pervert? She looked thoroughly affronted as he brushed past and spun around to watch him go. Staring at his back, something clicked into place in her head. She remembered the night they had gone to play baseball and what she'd felt when she'd (ruefully) stuck his hand up his shirt.

Aha.

"It's because you got a tattoo, isn't it?"

He froze in place at that and the way his shoulders drew up and his fingers curled into tightly bunched fists made it obvious she’d hit it on the nose. He took a moment to visibly relax before he whirled around, his expression skeptical and sarcasm thick in his voice: “Yeah, a tattoo. 15 year olds ain’t allowed tattoos, dumbass!”

He shook his head with a sad, pitying look. One he desperately hoped conveyed just how wrong she was, and just how sorry her home life must be if she thought young teens getting tattoos was appropriate.

“You really need to think of better excuses to try and get my shirt off, pervert.” He tried, feeling incredibly lame as soon as he got it all out. No way she’d buy it, but the pervert comment from before had seemed to hit her some way. Maybe it would distract her here.

Kiriko frowned. She felt disappointed - he was a really terrible liar, and quite frankly, she had expected better. Even the excuse he'd made up was terrible. Her expression told him plainly that she wasn't buying it.

"They're allowed with parental permission. Besides, I felt it." And saw a little bit of it, but she didn't bother saying that - he'd probably ask what it was of and act like that ended the whole thing when she couldn't tell him. She folded her arms and looked moodily at a patch of wall to her left. When she spoke, she sounded vaguely insulted.

"Why're you lying to me about it?"

He nearly grumbled when she ignored his pervert jab. Then he pondered why he’d even said that to her given that it WAS Ikeda and there was no way she'd let this weakness by. Then he sighed aloud and slumped some, turning his head to the side and wishing desperately for some nicotine, or just to escape Kiriko and duck into the entrance he could see off to his left. Why did he have to run into her on this little excursion tonight?

“Felt it?” He asked, cocking his head to one side as he considered the statement. Recognition flashed across his face, followed shortly by a scowl that stayed firmly in place as he stared across the hall at her. She was probably going to ask to see it. Just an excuse to get to see him shirtless again though, wasn’t it? He didn’t like being reminded of those few times before the tattoo when his shirt was off in a public school setting. Yakuza were not supposed to be eye candy! Definitely not for Ikeda-bitch, anyway. Great, now he was thinking she was perverted!

“Why are you so intent on knowing?” He shot back.

Her eyebrows shot up into a rather skeptical look.

"I just wanted to know why you were skulking around," she answered, intoning that his defensiveness was quite uncalled for. Mostly, she was just curious. And who wouldn't be? Coming across the class troublemaker sneaking out at night, anyone would wonder if it was completely innocent, she just happened to ask. It's not like curiousity was a crime!

It had killed the cat, she reflected, but she never thought of herself as being particularly feline anyway.

Kiriko frowned hard at him, again leveling him with another mildly disappointed look that she surely would have been loathe to notice if she could see herself.

"It's not like I'd tell anybody, you know."

“Tell anybody? You already know and you haven’t told, why would I be worried about you blabbing now? You’re the only one who knows and if I ever hear rumors of it, well, I’ll know who to look for, won’t I?” The lie was easy and his tone was conversational and friendly but the cancerous smile that grew across his mouth didn’t quite reach his eyes

He shook his head and turned away from her, looking as if he might step into the male changing room after all, but paused and looked at her over his shoulder instead. He cocked an eyebrow with another sigh and looked a little puzzled at her, the scar on the side of his mouth distorting it into something uncharacteristically grave.

“I can’t go into onsens anymore with it. You know those rules they have. This one has the same thing. If word were to get out about it, the owner would definitely cause a stink. So I have to do it privately or not at all this trip.”

Another lie. Well, perhaps a lie. He wasn’t entirely sure about this place’s rules, but he’d rather not admit he didn’t want anyone else seeing the thing. He’d cultivated his reputation by himself with whispers of yakuza affiliation undoubtedly helping, but mostly it had been him. The school finding out about the tattoo would just seal the deal and then most of the fear he’d instilled by himself would switch over to fear of the group he was born into.

"That sucks," she answered rather airily, determinedly ignoring the implications of what she was hearing. She knew he was yakuza already - most people wouldn't want to associate with a guy like that, but what did it matter to her, really? When they were finished school it wouldn't make a lick of difference and either fate or bad luck had made them teammates until then, so there was really no use in worrying about it.

His expression was more what gave her pause.

She peered at him as though if she looked hard enough she'd be able to make more sense of why he looked so grave, but the most she could come up with was that Reizo was really going to miss onsens. Just another thing there was probably no sense in worrying about. Another question was already pushing to the forefront of her mind. She fiddled with the hanging ends of the sash holding her yukata closed, wondering whether to ask or not.

"... so can I see it?" she asked, throwing caution to the wind and trying to sound as casual as humanly possible. It wasn't perverted to be curious, after all.

... was it?

“See, I knew this was just an excuse to get my shirt off,’ he said, a bit more triumphantly than he should have. But why not? This was the ice queen Ikeda and she was totally perving on him. It was a little odd to imagine, Ikeda digging on him, but it was a purely physical thing, right? He examined her thoroughly over his shoulder, arms folding in front of his chest as he seemed to consider his options.

Well he had been looking at her legs that day on the roof, so he was guilty of the same. He could understand finding someone physically attractive even if they were a total jackass. That sympathy, as well as the call of the onsen, had him setting the shampoo on the ground and standing back up only to shrug out of the top of his robe and expose his back.

It totally had nothing to do with him wanting to show it off or anything!

A great outline of a wolf dominated his back, stylized as most tebori were and still colorless. Scars ran through bits and pieces of it, but the tebori style kept the distortion to a minimum. The beginnings of new outlines marked either shoulder, but there was no real telling just what they were given how little was actually done.

He was silent for a moment, looking straight ahead and doing his best to keep his shoulders straight and stance stolid. Yakuza tattoos were supposed to be displayed with pride, but it was still unnerving for a fifteen year old boy to be scrutinized by a girl. Especially someone like Ikeda. More so when he realized that tentative trust she’d inspired in him all those years ago was paper thin and worn with the years. Luckily, the belief that she was totally checking out the tone and musculature of his back more than the art kept him scared enough to remain confident under her inspection. It did sort of cheapen it for him, though..

"Tch, don't flatter yourself, idiot! I just want to see what it looks like," she said with a scowl and an incredibly dramatic eyeroll. Boys! Why did they all have to be such morons! Not that such self-importance was particularly out of character for him, but the comment annoyed her anyway.

When he did drop his robe, her eyebrows shot up so far they almost disappeared into her hairline. She had been preparing to dodge a thrown bottle of shampoo and scamper off back to her room or something - the last thing she had expected him to do was comply, and now that he had, she wasn't entirely sure why it hadn't immediately occured to her that being alone in a hall with a half-disrobed Reizo would be profoundly uncomfortable.

Of course, there was nothing to be done about it now. She cleared her throat rather weakly, shuffling closer to get a better look, and was silently grateful that the tattoo was on his back since she could feel even her ears going hot from embarassment. Of course, her inspection was completely innocent - she just wanted to see the artwork! - but she made sure to swiftly check left and right to make certain that the coast was clear as she'd just about die if this story (or an altered version of it) ever made it around the school.

She wasn't exactly sure what she expected, but that he picked a wolf had her wondering if he was thinking about his head-god when he picked the design. But then, did he even get to pick the design? She couldn't think of why he wouldn't, but then she didn't know how these things worked and maybe there was some meaning she wasn't aware of. Despite being incomplete, it looked pretty good. She squinted at the designs on both of his shoulders that she couldn't quite make out. The outline was faint and indiscernable. Trying to guess at what they might be, she kept getting distracted by the scars that ran through them, which only reminded her of the fact that she was out of bed after hours ogling Shirai's back, which caused her to pivot on her heel moments later and look determinedly down the hall.

"Okay, have a nice bath then."

She tried to force a casual tone onto this abrupt and rather awkward goodbye, but even she could tell that it hadn't quite come out that way as she started a bit stiffly down the corridor to her room.
