Action Scene: The Malfoy Dinner

Everything was set to perfection. The fine china was set out, the house elves were dressed in fancy clothes, and Narcissa waited patiently in the living room for her guests to arrive.

Draco pulled his arm away, "How Mother, is this a good thing for me?" He didn't even try to be subtle. "I was going to have a hard enough time convincing Potter I was sincere as it were. Now it will be impossible," he snapped. "Merlin, undermined by own Godfather." He wanted to yell, to hurt someone, do something. One thing was for sure he was not speaking to Severus anytime soon.

"Mother you know Father, once he gets an idea in his head he doesn't let it go," Draco said wearily. He really just wanted to go to be and forget that this day had happened. He thought back to what he had heard, "Basically Severus told Potter that all Malfoys are manipulative and dishonest, and we do things only for ourselves and will use any means to get what we want." Draco sighed, "I knew Severus didn't approve of some of our methods, but I didn't realize he felt so strongly about them."

Draco trailed his fingers along the wall. "Severus pretty much told Potter we were going to use him to redeem our name, using any means possible including seduction." He looked at her, "You were right, Severus does want Potter for himself."

Even though there weren't anyone near them, Narcissa still glanced around before she embraced her son. She always knew Severus had a higher moral standard than them, but she never realized how strongly he felt about their methods. Or was it just because of Potter?

"I admit we are not the bright sunshine and flowers that the Weasleys are, but we make do with what we have. I am sorry for the pain he caused you, Draco dear. I never expected your godfather to betray you like this." She glanced at him with a straight face. "Would you like me to poison his meal?"

Draco hugged her, a little relieved that she wasn't blaming him for this. He pulled back chuckling slightly, "No Mother, it would do us no good. Potter seems to have gotten fond of Severus and would only cause trouble." He looked blankly down the hall for a moment before facing her again, "What are the seating arrangements? I wish to be no where near Severus or Potter, I will even sit next to the She-weasel."

"I did have you sitting next to Severus, but I will move you away from him. Are you sure you do not want me to poison him? I was a pretty fair hand at Potions myself in school. It would be a delayed reaction that'd kill him in the next several days gently in his sleep." She touched his cheek gently. "If I can face down the Dark Lord for you, I can certainly go up against Severus Snape."

She smiled a little. "Leave your father to me. I will distract him away from the subject of you and Potter."
