Jealousy (Tag: Hel) [11 Mar 2008|12:09am]
"I love you, Apate."

It had been honest. Simple and honest, over and over. Dolos told his twin that often in their lives, meaning it in every way that one person could to another. He meant it in admiration of her abilities. He meant it as best friends. He meant it in a romantic sense. He told his sister those three very simple, very complicated words when they were alone, or sometimes whispered it in her ear when they were in the middle of working together to pull off a job. Apate was one of a very small handful that saw Dolos for who he truly was, the person behind the facade, and he made sure she knew the truth about his heart as often as he thought she'd listen.

He'd told her those three words over and over last night when he found her crying alone in his bed. Dolos had just held Apate for the longest time, whispering them over and over like a mantra until they both fell asleep, spending the rest of the night in an embrace. But like every other time nothing would come of it. She'd say them back every now and again, but eventually he was always let down. Sometimes it was with words of her own, and sometimes it was with a lack of a response altogether.

This time there was a response, in the form of Dolos seeing her with another man. )

Pain and Family (tag: Iris/Zephyrus) [11 Mar 2008|07:16pm]
All he knew was pain. An all-consuming pain that he thought would never end. And then it did. He didn’t feel any pain. He didn’t feel anything at all. It was so unbelievably nice, he knew he must have died in Hedylogos’ home. As long as the girls got out, that was what mattered.

Then it all came crashing back. It started in his wings, what was left of them and from there went everywhere. He felt some liquid pass his chapped and burned lips. Voices were talking to him, hands prodding his burned flesh. The pain started to ease down to a manageable level. Peitho and Lottie must have gotten out and brought help. He really could not imagine the Underworlders helping ease his pain. Those bastards would just increase his suffering until he passed out again. And they were damn good at it.

Slowly he forced his eyes open, trying to see where he was. Even that small amount of movement caused a new flare of pain. He blinked slowly, trying to keep the tears from falling from his bloodshot eyes. Failing in that, he tried to raise his hand to brush the tears away. He stopped suddenly when he saw the blackened flesh that covered his hand. Phlegethon had really burned him, just like he had intended. He really hoped the Underworlders got what they wanted out of all that. He really hated to think that they might strike again.

Pothos finally got his eyes to focus. He knew this place. He had laid here on one of these tables once or twice before in his life. Epidaurus, Asklepios’ place. He even recognized one or two of the attendants. It was nice to be in familiar hands. There was another familiar presence, one he had hoped to avoid all the while know he would not be able to.

“Mother.” His voice was weak and scratchy, one he hardly recognized as his own. “I’m sorry.”

Welcome Back (tag: Artemis, Peitho, Thanatos) [11 Mar 2008|10:59pm]
It had been hard to watch them leave, Apollo, Iris and Nemesis. Especially Nemesis. Philotes had wanted to cling to her sister and beg her to stay with her, but instead, she just tightened her grip on Peitho’s fingers as she stood beside her best friend. It wasn’t until the very last moment that she’d torn herself way from Petty to embrace her sister. The final few traumatic scenes from the party replayed over in her mind as she hugged Retribution good-bye. Letting her go, knowing she would be walking into what Lottie had left behind, had been almost physically painful.

But she’d managed to peel herself away from her sister, and it was only after they had left that she realized who had remained behind. Artemis. The Huntress had not gone, and the relief that flowed through Philotes had nearly made her weak. She’d been so sure that Missy would want revenge and would be tagging along with her twin. The hug that she had been afraid to give her friend upon her first appearance now demanded to be expressed.

Leaving Peitho’s side, she ran up the stairs, stopping just short of throwing herself at Artemis. But her arms went around her friend, hugging her as tightly as she was able. “I’m so glad to see you and I’m so, so, so, so so sorry.”

There was so much she wanted to be able to say, so much she wanted to, and a thousand things she felt she needed to make up for. But for once, speech failed Friendship, and she was only able to gasp for breath as she tried not to cry all over Artemis. This was not a goddess that would appreciate blubbering. Finally she was able to manage, “I’m glad you didn’t go, Missy. I wouldn’t want you to see…”

Well, maybe that wasn’t the best topic of discussion. Telling someone what depravities were visited upon their corpse wasn’t exactly a fun conversation. And not one Lottie really wanted to revisit anyway. She was going to have a very hard time not having nightmares as it was.

Leaning away from Artemis, she gave her a smile. It might not have been her best or her brightest, because she was still worried over too many things to be that carefree. But it was heartfelt and sincere. “I missed you.”
