In the Name of Law [tag: Horus] [04 Feb 2008|06:58am]
Thoth reclined in his preferred chair, one leg crossed over the other, a scroll of vellum unrolled and being looked over very carefully. He was studying it, reading the glyphs for any loophole that might have been present in the text; anything that might give reason to discount what would inevitably need to be said. To his right was a perfect copy of the scroll in his hand, papyrus instead of vellum, and enclosed in an air tight glass case.

Papyrus was fragile, far more fragile than the calf hide vellum; and the main reason why anything legally binding that was meant to survive the eras was not written on papyrus. At least not by Thoth. Protected with an added set of spells and charms to assure destruction of the vellum document would be nigh impossible, he rolled it back into original shape, tied with a bit of rope to secure the roll and dismissed it back to its home deep within the vaults below.

Two days prior Thoth had sent written request for the self-proclaimed King of All Egypt to join him in his London home. Paper, wax seal and formal language used carefully. This was not to be a meeting of pleasure, of two ageless beings sharing a drink and a joke. This was business and a business that Thoth took very seriously.

Not that he always wanted to do it. He didn't. Sometimes he'd just as soon let them destroy themselves as they so eagerly sought to do.

Horus would be impetuous and rude, that was expected. He would make Thoth wait until he was ready to come forth; that also was expected. It would have been far faster to go to Egypt, to go to him; but it would not be practical. At least here Horus had no power. London did not belong to Egypt and Thoth no slave of Egypt. It was his own treaty that not only kept Set on the throne, but had kept Horus there as well.

So quick the young forget.

"Await him," he spoke to one woman in his service, "then attend him. In case he has forgotten, remind him the rules of this place. Inform me immediately if any offense is made upon you. Lead him here and then remain unseen." It was better that way. To greet this guest on his own would subtract formality from the affair.
