home again (Phil) [03 Feb 2008|09:39pm]
Being out with Zelos had been weird. To say the very least. She couldn't escape the feeling that he'd been hitting on her nearly the entire time, but that was absurd. Why would Zelos, of all people, hit on her?

Oizys found herself wondering about this all the way home.

Instinctively, she returned to the apartment Phil had given her. Not quite ready to head back down to the Underworld and get caught back up in all the war whatnot. She knew she would have to go back eventually. Somebody would likely call a meeting. Children would be expected to attend. She would go out of duty. For now, though, she wanted nothing to do with any of it. She'd already been locked in a closet, that was enough.

The bag holding the red dress was clutched tightly in her hand. She looked at it for a while before going into the apartment. Maybe she hadn't given that look enough of a chance. Maybe she'd abandoned it far too easily.

Oizys sighed and opened the door, throwing the bag on the couch as she entered. She looked up briefly and startled herself thinking there was somebody sitting in the chair by the window. She let out a heavy breath, looking down and holding her chest, trying to breathe again. A hand to her face and she shook her head, knocking the image away. That was stupid. She was getting far too paranoid about things.

But when she looked up again, the figure was still there. This time it got a sound out of her. Not quite a scream, not quite a squeak.

It took too much time for her brain to rectify the person sitting there with who she knew it was, deep down. She was frozen for more than a few heartbeats until her vision stopped swimming, and then she frowned.

"Phil?" She shook her head again. "Phil? What are you doing here?"

Seeking Forgiveness (tag: Bia) [03 Feb 2008|11:27pm]
Bolstered by reassurances from Ninkasi, and a lot of beer, Kratos had made the decision that he should go look for his little sister. What had made him act like such an ass, he wasn’t entirely certain. It was more than just jealousy over the idea of sharing the Sumerian with his family. It was something deeper, something that had to do with Bia herself, but Kray didn’t really want to think about it too deeply.

If he did, he might actually have to do something about it. Deep down, he feared the solution might be even more terrifying than the problem, and he wasn’t really ready to face either. If that made him a coward, then so be it. But he wasn’t willing to risk his relationship with his favorite person in the world.

Any more than he already had, anyway. He needed to set things right with Bia. He wasn’t going to feel like himself until he did, which is how he found himself standing outside the door to her bedroom. Twice he’d lifted his hand to knock, only to have it drop back to his side. Strenth could face down threats that would make most men quake, but he couldn’t stand the look of disappointment on his little sister’s face.

Before he could lose his nerve completely, Kratos decided to forgo knocking all together. Instead, he turned the knob and gently pushed the door open. For a long moment, he couldn’t even look her direction, and when he finally did, his eyes quickly dropped to the floor, unable to hold her gaze. “Hey, Pix. I’m… I’m sorry. I was a jerk Would you feel better if I let you beat on me for a while?”

Wild Kingdom (tag: Gwydyon) [03 Feb 2008|11:32pm]
That squirrel, Bast decided, was evil. She’d been watching it for several minutes from her spot on the park bench, as she casually sipped her overly sweetened coffee. It was rare that she could find a diner that made it as strong as she liked it, but this wasn’t too bad at all. Especially once she’d added her usual eight tablespoons full of sugar. She’d intended to just sit and be lazy for a few minutes, absorb the caffeine and the sugar.

But then the squirrel had arrived. They had eyed each other, the bushy-tailed rodent immediately recognizing a predator in his territory. However, that hadn’t kept the bold little creature from steadily drawing closer to where Bast sat. Every time he made a dart or a dash closer, he would pause then look at her. Either he was checking to make sure she hadn’t changed position, or he was checking to see if she was suitably impressed. Bast had a feeling it was the latter.

Because the squirrel was evil. First, he’d stolen some peanuts from a pigeon, which resulted in a bit of a tussle and an upset and ruffled bird flying off without his lunch. Then he’d terrified a small child by rushing him, which had almost netted him an ice cream cone, but the kid had managed to hold onto his treat as he ran crying for his mother. Now, the mangy little beast was eyeing the vending machine that was not five feet from where Bast sat.

The machine, stocked with candy bars and potato chips, was flush against the concrete blocks of the only structure in the park. It housed bathrooms for both sexes, a small glass fronted display case highlighting area attractions, several soda machines, a drinking fountain, and the object of the squirrel’s attention. Bast wasn’t certain what the creature thought he was going to do. He couldn’t really be contemplating trying to go in to the vending machine… could he?

She took a slow sip of her coffee, watching intently. There were probably any number of other things she should be doing. Certainly, her mother would likely have a list handy. Horus could probably come up with a few tasks, to which Bast would likely reply with some rude suggestions of her own. But since none of her family was here to chide her into action, she was going to sit on her butt, drink her coffee, and watch the squirrel.

That was an evil little squirrel. Bast liked him.
