The Price of a Mother's Love (narrative: open to Egyptians) [25 Jan 2008|08:29am]
Set was gone. Banished from Egypt. She should be celebrating.

Instead, she sat on her bed, sobbing. What had gone wrong? She had brought the god to Horus, giving him the chance for redemption, instead of choosing to handle the situation on her own. And in the end he turned on her. Set, on the other hand, had chosen to calmly mock her pain. She was only mildly surprised at his reaction. Horus had only ever experienced one side of Chaos, while she, on the other hand, had grown up with him, lived with him, known his many sides. The fact that he had left with a veiled threat didn't surprise her. She had known he wouldn't just let it go, but his threats didn't frighten her. She was the Great Lady of Magic. Turning a toad back to human form had taken little effort at all on her part. She had once restored a dead god, for goodness' sake! Even that wasn't difficult. There was little Set could throw her way that she couldn't overcome. Nonetheless, his reaction was to be expected.

The Path Of The Righteous (Tag: Open) [25 Jan 2008|01:05pm]
There was a time, many years ago, when Set had been the ruler of all Egypt.

In recent years that was a rulership that had been forcibly split between he and another.

Now, however, Horus had violated their treaty, and Set, the Egyptian God of Chaos and once-King was banished from his homeland forever.

Horus had fled the scene like a coward almost immediately after passing judgment, as if it were even his to pass. Set was far from without sin, as was any, but in this case he had done nothing to bring punishment upon himself, and had been given even less of a chance to defend these imagined crimes. Some foreign god had been torturing people in his land. Upon intervening, the Welshman had used magic to shift his form and bind him in the body of a creature, where he was then tortured and mocked incessantly. Gwydyon returned him to Isis, Set's sister and subject, and she then mocked him further, followed by handing him over to his greatest enemy of all. And like that, villains claiming righteousness, Set's agreement to their terms was dictated to him rather than requested. He was to abdicate the throne, immediately followed by leaving the land and never returning.

Horus, God of Kings indeed - but of what mettle?

For some time Set remained in his home, pacing the halls of his temple, hidden within a thick sandstorm in the Egyptian desert. )

Intermission (Deimos) [25 Jan 2008|06:43pm]
Instinct. It was always correct, and yet so often wrong. There was nothing more schizophrenic than instinct. In the moment you could rely on it to save you, to keep you together and guide you through the danger. But more often than not instinct, lacking forethought, was going to bring down on your head as much wrong as anything else. He could have gone to see Eos. He should have gone to see Eos. But if what he felt was right, there was no reason to go see her. At least, not for now. Not until he had some kind of ... proof? Would his presence be enough? So much that he wanted to tell her. It was his instinct to go see her, but forethought told him that option would be foolish. A waste of time. There was yet a moment for that. It had to come later, his wits told him. Later for that. Prometheus knew as surely as he knew anything that he loved her. Too long between moments, too long he'd gone without admitting it, but she was one of the few things that gave him hope for the future. That made him feel as though the long years he'd spent getting to this point were worth it.

And as for Apate... )
