the knife [ open to hades ] [11 Jan 2008|09:34pm]
He could not go to Olympus.

Well, that wasn't exactly true. He knew he had to give himself more credit. Hermes could go wherever he wished to go, but at this point his invisibility cap would be necessary for an adventure on Zeus' mountain. There wasn't much good he could do while invisible other than knock all the gods on the head and hope a spell of unconsciousness did something for everyone's common sense. Zeus' black glare had left Hermes depressed and a bit upset. While the messenger god had been more than aware of the risks he took in arranging these talks, he couldn't have anticipated such a clever double cross. Hermes had always done the right thing in the past. With the exception of his interlude with alcoholism, he'd carried his duties very well over the centuries he'd existed! Better than most, if Hermes was keeping track properly. And to see Zeus doubt him...that was why he couldn't go back. The King's confidence did not belong to him now.

If his father wouldn't work with diplomacy, then Hermes would have to move his service to someone else... )

Small Talk (Hedylogos) [11 Jan 2008|10:54pm]
The truth one found in dreams was never the truth one wanted. Or, in all honesty, the heart of the matter. Dreams were a thing you created for yourself, a thing that couldn't tell lies unless there were lies in your head. In your heart. No, the pure truth had come to him as he stared out his window. The gift of prophecy had long been lost to Prometheus, or so it seemed. The future was an obscure thing, detailed and too nuanced to be fully explored in the hazards of a mind. Even a wise mind like his, a mind that could find no equal but Athena's. Staring out the long window, into the shoeing yard, the answer had come to him at last. Bits and pieces. A jigsaw sliding into place. The future had been made plain enough to him, or at least his role in it. Chronus must have been behind those visions, but he didn't know why. Didn't know how. Everything was crystallized. Illuminated and laid bare before him. So that found Prometheus in Paris, waiting for the right moment.

For some reason, he didn't think he was going to get an invitation. )
