One good turn (Missouri, Narrative) [24 Dec 2007|03:40pm]
He had been sitting there on the ledge for the past hour and half, glancing down now and then, watching the world goes round. From his vantage point, the cars and men only seemed like ants to him, scurrying around without looking up or even caring about the people around them. Misery clutched tightly at his heart again in between choked sobs and tear streaks that ran like lines across his face as he slowly pulled himself up to his feet.

Why should he care if she had not?

He drew a shuddering breath as he stood up, raising his hands out - soon it will be all over and soon she will regret---

"I wouldn't do that if you were you."

His fingers shook for a moment as they clasp at empty air and he tried to look towards to the source of the voice. The voice or Eir was decked out for the circumstances, her usual garments were exchanged a pair of ripped skinny jeans, long fraying sleeveless shirt proclaiming "Live at Abbey Road" and knee high boots which made soft clacking noise as she crossed the parapet towards the ledge.

With mild nonchalance, she peered over the ledge and clucked her tongue as she fiddled with a bead necklace, "quite a fall, isn't it?" as she glanced over to the boy.

Strays (tag: Isis) [24 Dec 2007|04:44pm]
Usually when Bast visited her mother, she arrived some anticipation. It was not always the good kind of anticipation, since Isis did seem to love to lecture her and she’d never really done very well with being told what to do. But even in the middle of a battle of wills with the woman that had raised her, Bast had a satisfying feeling of welcome and love. Most of the time, the visits went well once they got past the requisite guilt trip over not coming to see her more often. But Bast’s step was dragging just a bit today as she approached her mother’s home in France.

The thing was, she was still seething over Artemis’ defection in the middle of the rescue mission they’d planned. She’d specifically asked, and that blah-faced Greek had said she’d go through with it. But just as things got started, the goddess had just disappeared, without even saying a word, leaving Bast to clean up the mess. Which she had, handily. It wasn’t like she’d needed the Greek after all. But it was a little irritating that she had been told if she couldn’t stand the heat to get out of the kitchen. Who was it that had left when it got hot? Not Bast.

Stupid Greek. )

Buck up, Little Camper, and stop crying!! [tag: Makaria] [24 Dec 2007|08:46pm]
Continued from here.

Annulled? Could you annul a marriage after consummation? In Scandinavian society, you couldn't, so Loki assumed that a consummation had been done. There was no point to getting married if there were no fringe benefits. Dolos couldn't be that stupid, could he? No, no man was so stupid he forgot to bed his new wife right after the marriage. There was absolutely no point in having a woman doll herself up like a glorious package of virtue if you couldn't unwrap it later. Dolos could not be that stupid. Could he?

To Dream the Impossible Dream [tag: Nanshe/Morpheus] [24 Dec 2007|10:08pm]
Continued from here.

"You want to know if I will do it. Right?"

Oh, bad idea. Bad idea. Bad idea! Balance wanted to scream for Morpheus do not even consider interfering with any dream of Zeus' because there was no telling what kind of repercussions that would have. Though, she couldn't think of a single positive reaction he would have to it once he learned that Morpheus had done such a thing. While it was rare, thunderbolts were a distinct possibility. She knew what the results where when you challenged the crown, even if it was just the mind or opinions of, and Morpheus didn't have a parent to defend him in this.

It was a horrible idea.

But it was an option, it was one of the only options they had right now. No matter how god-awful of an idea it was, it was at least an idea. Which was far more than Harmonia had brought to the table. All she had was a notion to try to stop the mess that was going to unfold without so much as an idea of how to go about it.

She felt guilty for not being able to pull into her reserves of knowledge about her pantheon, and that about ruling and warcraft. Cadmus and she had been part of many wars, most to protect their people. Never once did she have to step in and stop a war from happening. Not once. Perhaps it was because they seemed justified, perhaps because she didn't know anyone on the opposite side for which to stage an intervention. It never seemed to matter.

This mattered.

“Is that your question, Nanshe?” It was horrible of her to put her dear friend on the spot like this, but it was suggesting that he put himself in harm's way. While, if it worked there was the greater good to be considered; but if it went wrong... it would go wrong in an epic manner.

Lesson Taught: There's no Safety in War [tag: Ares] [24 Dec 2007|11:13pm]
Immediately following this.

There was glee on Enyo's face. An odd emotion to find, but glee. Mirth, pleasure, elation... all of it. Glee. Though, as unbelievable as it could have seemed, it was present. In fact, it was hard for her to not have that look, a look that resembled a post-orgasmic glow, when she stood there with some relatively fresh blood spatter all over her.

What had happened, didn't even matter anymore. )
