Log: Susan & Hannah
Who: Susan Bones & Hannah Abbott
Where: Quail's Edge
When: Late June
What: Lunch date & catch up
There were many traditions that Hannah enjoyed, one of them being getting together with her fellow house and dormmates. While most of them were making the move to Cuadtich, their lives were on different schedules and it was decided a while ago that they wouldn’t lose touch with one another. Hannah was thrilled to be out to lunch with her friend, Susan.
“This is great.” Hannah said after taking a sip of her tea. “It’s been ages since our schedules lined up, I’m glad things slowed down enough for us to get together.” Quail’s Edge was one of Hannah’s favorite spots for lunch, their spring salad was one of best she had ever had. “How’s work been going for you?” Hannah added.
“Me too!” Susan grinned and took a sip of her water. It had been a long while since she’d had some proper time off from work in recent weeks, so she was excited to have the time line up with Hannah’s so that they could get together and catch up. She was still one of Susan’s best mates, and it had been far too long since they’d spent time together.
“It’s busy,” she said with a shake of her head. Susan loved her work even if it could be tiresome at times. “In a good way? It’s always something new, some place new. But I’m always glad to be back home in my own flat and with my own pillow.” Her last job had taken her to southeast Asia, but no matter where she traveled, she’d always prefer England to any place else with Cuaditch soon beginning to feel like home.
“What about you? Any strange or interesting cases?” Sometimes their lives as an auror and a healer crossed paths depending on circumstances, but Susan did think that healing magic was rather fascinating.
Hannah let out a small laugh. “I know what you mean,” she replied. “I don’t travel as much as you do, but I do know how good it feels to be able to lay your head down after a long day.” Hannah nodded in agreement. “Busy can be good, and it’s nice to be able to be in a career that has both some stability and excitement.” Hannah wished she could travel more, but traveling for work, at least for her father, wasn’t always exciting. “Do you think you’ll be here for a while?”
“Oh you know, not always strange and interesting, most of the time it’s because people aren’t using common sense.” Hannah smiled, trying not to be too amused. “One bloke tried to use a fire spell to get rid of weeds in his background and of course the bottom of his robes caught fire. He was okay!” Hannah quickly added. “His wife brought him in when she noticed a few of the basic healing spells weren’t doing the trick.”
"Oh, I hope so," Susan nodded. "I like one-off trips for shorter periods, so one of those wouldn't be so bad, but I'm hoping any extended trips are a good ways off. Especially with the season really underway now! I hope to have some time to go to more matches soon."
It wasn't any secret to anyone that knew her that Susan was a huge fan of quidditch. She was the one in school that dressed out in full Hufflepuff gear, face painted, and cheering her house team on with all her might. As an adult, she didn't take her excitement quite that far, but going to matches was one of her favorite off-time activities.
She shook her head, laughing a little. "People think up the craziest things sometimes, right?" Taking a few bites of her food, Susan paused for a moment but then grinned. "Oh! I got tickets to a Muggle show in the city in a couple of weeks. Do you want to come? It's called & Juliet, kind of a 'what if' to the classic Romeo and Juliet story where Juliet chooses her own path, and the ending of the original play is the beginning of this one. It looks like a lot of fun!"
“I’ve heard it’s been an interesting season so far.” Hannah replied. She liked Quidditch well enough but with her fear of heights, she didn’t always follow it as closely as others did. In school she showed support but there was always a slight panic inside of her whenever she had to climb the stairs to the stands, it always messed with her concentration and made it difficult for her to actually watch the players.
A bright smile grew across Hannah’s face. “That sounds fascinating, I’d love to go! It’s interesting the way people can take an already told story and re-imagine it. Just let me know the date and I’ll make arrangements at work. We should make a whole day of it too.”
“Great!” Susan beamed. It was nice catching up with Hannah, but a whole day spent with her would be even better. She couldn’t wait. “I know! It’s got all these Muggle songs in it too; ones that they play on their radio that have been adapted to the play. I bought the tickets on a whim one day, and I’m really excited to see it.”
Susan didn’t know a lot of Muggle pop music like some of her friends did, but she was a sucker for musical theatre of any kind. Thanks to being busy with work, it had been too long since she’d been able to find time to go. “And, yes, we’ll definitely make it a day. We can go to a lot of the shops, get something to eat, and do whatever else too.”
“That’ll be fun.” Like Susan, Hannah didn’t know a lot of muggle music, at least compared to some of her friends. She did learn a great deal from her friends like Justin, who was always willing to share music with them. Then of course there was the universally accepted, like the Beatles, that even most purebloods had heard of. “You certainly have good instincts, Susan.” Laughed Hannah. “I think it’s right up our alley.”
She took a sip of water then grinned. “Great! I never get a chance to venture out in muggle London these days. It’ll be a fun little adventure.”
“Me either! At least not on a pleasure trip.” Work, yes. Fun, a big, fat no. Susan enjoyed her work, she absolutely did, but it could be tiring at times. Although, ‘enjoy’ perhaps wasn’t the right word considering the nature of the jobs at times; instead, she took pride in it.
“Are you enjoying being here?” She asked her. “In Cuaditch, I mean. I guess I’ve been here for a while, but usually can be a little distracted. It sure does have some, um, weird things happen a lot, doesn’t it?”
Like making people do weird things, objects falling from the sky, or talking animals. It was so incredibly mad, but Susan didn’t try to make sense of it most of the time. Then she’d really make herself go mad.
Hannah laughed. “This place certainly keeps you on your toes, that’s for sure.” She thought about it for a second then added. “So many strange things though, it’s almost tiresome to try and keep track of it all. Especially since you never know if it’s just another silly Cuaditich even or something more serious.” She waved her hand and laughed. “But that’s just me being overly concerned.”
Susan had seen her fair share of weird, unusual, and straight up wacky in Cuaditch since she’d been here. She saw all sorts of unusual things while out on jobs, but this town had its own branch of unusual that most any other place couldn’t ever compete.
“It’s hard not to be! Not when you never know what’s going to happen next.” Taking the last few bites of her food, Susan tapped her finger against the table. Her stomach was still telling her she was hungry. “How about dessert to split? Or maybe even not to split,” she said with a grin. “And, hey, if we turn into chocolate or cheesecake afterwards… then I’d say it’s worth it.”
Hannah laughed. “Definitely worth it,” she agreed. “Okay, yeah, let's split something because I don’t know how much room I have left in me after lunch.”
